I'm not actually but a simming buddy of mine is. I'll pass on the info about the converter.

I've been using DX10 mode for a good few months now and have not once gone back to DX9.

I really miss some of my older aircraft (Real AIr 172, Chipmunk etc) but the improvements in graphics and smoothness is worth the loss IMO.

GIve it a go!

Just remember that Addon Converter X will not change night, dusk or dawn textures for, for instance, the Flight 1 ATR. It will work for the daytime only. And Toronto CYYZ is the same. I got a refund for that program and just fly those sceneries in the day when they work fine.

I personally haven't had as much success with this as some here have. Setting up as per the guide and Word Not Allowed's tweaks I'll still go down to 16fps in the AirbusX at times when facing the terminals at London Heathrow with 40% traffic (MyTrafficX), RC4, MCE etc. Maybe I need to tone down my autogen and scenery complexity which are both far right at the moment. Clouds seem to cause a performance hit when density is set to 10 with 4xSGSS on my GTX580. I don't notice any less stuttering than before. No idea how Bimmercop gets 30fps constant in the NGX with these situations.

So far my favorite feature is the ability to minimize easily which DX9 was just a mess with.

I know mate :) Too expensive for what is does IMO so will stick with DX10 compliant aeroplanes for now.

Attach your fsx.cfg (as fsx.txt) here, Kannwar, with a screenshot of your NI, and let's see what's going on - OK? :good:

Hmm, I am very envious. I tried to get DX10 to work, followed what I thought were the correct procedures and effectively could hardly start FSX! Then when I did, it was frames in single figures and freezes... urgh

Howard old friend, try it again (fresh install) if you can, also use the new Nvidia 310.54 beta driver.... http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/geforce_310_54_beta_driver_download.html http://forum.avsim.net/topic/390949-new-nvidia-driver-31054/

Good luck.

Hiya matey, sure, I will. I just need to set aside some time and try to ensure I follow the correct procedures. Maybe I screwed things up on my first attempt. sure, I'll try again..

  • 2 weeks later...

tried DX10 couple of days ago, and I can only say I don't really see what is all the hubbub about. Performance is maybe 30 vs 32 FPS, if even that much, sharpness nothing better, water textures possibly a little better

Pessimism at it's finest... :P

The only reason I use DX10 is the issue of stutters with DX9. DX10 is miles ahead in smoothness.....

As this is not completely aged topic, I wanted to chime in: tried DX10 couple of days ago, and I can only say I don't really see what is all the hubbub about. Performance is maybe 30 vs 32 FPS, if even that much, sharpness nothing better, water textures possibly a little better (didn't install DX10 water from REX though, and DX9 water looks good to me), smoothness - as long as my sim keeps 30fps, I don't see any difference between my config and the DX10 mode (and if it drops below, both become slightly stuttery, as expected), the general addon incompatibility...?

So, either I'm doing something wrong or expecting too much. Which is it?

The only reason I'm using it at the moment is to prevent OOM's in OrbX London like what I got the other day after just finishing a nice landing at Heathrow. Screw FSX and it's 32 bit code.

Other than that I don't notice any other improvements. Unless you count the instant transition between full screen and windowed mode which is great for VA's when you have to mess around with an ACARS system. I've noticed no difference in the amount of stuttering I get. It's just as bad as always. Especially at Heathrow.

Unfortunately, I've gone back to DX-9 for the time being.

While I loved the increased frame-rate and smoothness with DX-10, I couldn't get over the bad AA and disappearing textures on some addons. While the textures may have a work-around, the poor AA is killing the move to DX-10 for me. I may play around with the settings in Nvidia Inspector but I'm wanting to do more flying and less fiddling, for the time being.

Is the better and smoother framerate maybe the result of non existent aa? Because I managed to get my 2x sgss working and my fps weren't that better...
