Ultimate Alaska X

Featured Replies

Thanks for the recommendations and comments - I bought it last evening, and am very happy with it.

I absolutely love the way the residential house objects (and other urban buildings) are all alligned correctly - it really looks awesome!

I am currently flying out of Valdez, around the Southcentral area - amazing fun with this add-on now.

As has been said above, I am generally getting brilliant frame rates (30 FPS locked) in the Turbine Duke, Carenado 208, etc, with Opus weather and quite high settings, but at Anchorage, things dropped to 17 FPS, so I will have to look further at manually tweaking this area,

Thanks,

Raul.

One more question, I'm out of hard drive space, can Ultimate Alaska X be initially installed on a separate hard drive, or can it only be installed on the FSX drive like Orbx sceneries?

Thanks again

I assume it has to be installed in your FSX folder. That's just an assumption though; you could check with F1 support.

Anyone know or tried to use any photoreal scenery with UT Alaska X? Would there buildings still appear? I ask that because I know they generate (autogen?) buildings differently with this product than their other releases. I believe they use or can use with a config setting vector data to place their buildings so they line up with streets correctly. I don't know enough about it to know if that would matter or not when trying to use photoreal scenery in a UT Alaska area. I'm guessing this still would have to be tied to their bgl's somehow though and is not possible, but just wanted to ask to know for sure.

What the heck, is Flight1 the only place that sells this? I've searched around and others carry many Ultimate Terrain products but not Alaska.

Why can't you just purchase from Flight 1?

Love it, hard on frames around Anchorage, but other than that it is fantastic....

Yes, I struggle alot with Ultimate Alaska X and Aerosoft PANC, It's unusable for me, even FSDT CYVR with Vancouver v3+ and Orbx PNW performs better than that. Have tried removing all the ground traffic for this aiport, but it still performs like sh.t.

When i try PANC with Default scenery It performs excellent. Ancourage isn't exacly the biggest city so I can't understand why I get this bad performance.

I hope Orbx SAK will give me better performance than Ultimate Alaska X. Even orbx brisbane and ymml performs alot better so there must be something wrong somewhere...

Why can't you just purchase from Flight 1?

Just trying to avoid making ANOTHER account somewhere.

Flight1 is one of the accounts that I consider worth it to have set up. However, I'm pretty sure you can purchase and install without requiring an account - but you'll lose some of the flexibility for reinstalling, I think you have to keep your install key safe.

I never saw this thread originally, and not to harp on an old thread, but Ultimate Alaska is great, in my opinion it's a must have. The impressive thing is the flexibility of the program to set detail in certain areas that might have issues with performance. Heck, you can even turn the whole thing down to a point where it's just the same as having regular UT.

Aerosoft PANC, although decent looking, has totally miserable in performance in my opinion. You can tweak all you want in the UTAK settings, the problem lies with PANC. Aerosoft PANC is one of the few purchases that I've uninstalled. I actually use a combination of parts of the freeware versions and my own photoreal ground cover made in FS Earth Tiles (which of course isn't able to be shared). Let me tell you, doing my own water mask for Lake Hood was daunting, and it was my first experience with making night and seasonal ground cover :O

Hmm too bad, I tought the problem whas with Ultimate Alaska X since PANC have excellent performance with default scenery, guess I whas wrong. I have been thinking of getting Fairbanks X but if it's just as bad as PANC I'll stay away.

PANC have excellent performance with default scenery,

I'm not sure if you mean that you have great performance with the default PANC and default scenery, or Aerosoft PANC and default scenery. If you mean that you have decent performance with Aerosoft PANC and default scenery, then you definitely have a difference experience from myself.

Default PANC & default Anchorage = great frames

Default PANC & UT Alaska (turned down a bit around Anchorage, of course) = great frames

Aerosoft PANC & anything else = poor frames

I have to go into the Aerosoft PANC folder and start renaming most of the BGL's before it starts to improve, over and above what you can turn off in the settings. If was only flying with small planes, aka Carenado's C185, which is what I like to fly in the bush with, it might be (barely) acceptable. But the minute you try to load up anything more complex, which is what I really want to fly into PANC, it's a nogo.

I mean I have excellent frames with Aerosoft PANC and default scenery, Im able to maintain stable 30 FPS in GA aircrafts, With Aerosoft PANC and Ultimate Alaska X with GA planes it drops to around 10-15FPS and the stutter is awful. In the NGX it's a freaking slideshow totally unplayable. In Orbx Ymml Im able to hold around 20 FPS with the NGX and it runs pretty smooth..

I find Aersoft PANC to be very hard on the frame rates also.

No matter on the UTX Alaska or Flight1, I just bought Orbx Pacific Fjords instead. :) Also bought Beaver X Mission pack for the fun of it.

for those having trouble with frames an anchorage, try the AlaskaModels1alt preset in the "improve performance using saved environmental presets" button in the setup tool. works great here.

I can understand that, but with flight1 you can always return for a refund within 30 days if the product is not any good for you.... Also with the way they do things, if needed you can re download any time you need to...

Well worth setting up a account with them. .!
