June 2, 201313 yr Our 'prime' timeline that we cherish isn't altered at all and the integrity of the original storytelling is kept. An unlimited universe possesses an infinite number of realities. With that idea in mind, JJTrek is in a completely separate timeline than that of 'prime trek'. JJ can put all the cleavage and lens flaring exploding action flick stuff he wants. I don't blame him really, he is just making and selling what is popular these days. An explosion filled action flick will do better at the box office than an intellectual drama. If you take JJTrek it for what it is, it is fine. The next director of trek can have Q show up and say 'What you saw in the last movies didn't exist.'...snaps fingers, 'prime trek restored'.. Its just like Star Trek Online. To me, STO is just a big theme park loosely based on star trek, with lots of little tidbits for us trekkies to go...oooh lets sit at the bar with Morn, or lets wear an original series uniform, or lets fly a Bird Of Prey...etc. That's where the 'trek' ends in it. The rest of it is an MMO combat action game which has very little do to with the 'ideals' of trek storytelling. If you can go into STO with that in mind, you can enjoy it, if you go in looking for 'canon this, canon that..etc', you will be disappointed. June 4, 201313 yr Author Well, in a sense, the old Star Trek is still out there, and probably will be for many years to come. With that being the case, perhaps there really is room for other interpretations. Infinite diversity in infinite combinations, folks. And perhaps everything in its own place and time as well. Much as I love old Trek, its debatable whether stories of the sort below could draw the audience necessary to sustain them in modern times. Previous Trek movies hewing too close to the old sensabilities never enjoyed more than modest success at the box office, wheras as the current JJ Trek is happily soaring towards the 400 million profit mark and still going. That pretty much beats the box office clout of any three of the previous Trek outings combined, and its hard to argue with that. http://youtu.be/3G-ziTBAkbQ We are all connected..... June 15, 201312 yr Just saw this movie and for the most part I liked it. The Spock/Uhura relationship is strange including the actors playing them but outside of the Hollywood fluff it's Star Trek. It's much better than the first effort. FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

It's much better than the first effort. I'm glad you liked this movie. I think now you understand the meaning of my posts about it. I'll watch it again, that's for certain. I do have one problem with the movie--my daughter fell in love with Captain Kirk....
June 15, 201312 yr The Spock/Uhura relationship is strange I agree with this. Consider the original character played by Nichelle Nichols back on the original TV Series. She didn't much care for the part and was about to quit when Martin Luther King JR talked her out of it and praised her work as a role model. This new Uhura character played by Zoe Saldana is not as inspiring due to too many backroom scenes with Spock. Uhura is meant to be a powerful woman figure rather then chasing a senior officer around a starship. Nichelle Nichols are some hard shows to fill because no one could ever replace her. But this lovesick Uhura in the new movies kind of ruins the character for me. It feels like it is trying to cater to pre-teen girls, that is no powerful Role Model that Uhura is supposed to be. June 22, 201312 yr Don't get me wrong.I loved the rapport between Spock,Kirk, and Dr.McCoy,but the actuall story, was rubbish. Why couldn't they come up with an original story?
