Actually knowing Spock I don't think he would, for fear of altering their time line too much and what not.

Probably illogical. His miscalculation that destroyed Nero's world and ended in his traveling to the past and altering the timeline already made him culpable for major damage, including the destruction of his own home-world. That same alteration of the timeline might also change the outcomes of situations that were successfully resolved in the original timeline. (Imagine the doomsday machine ravaging across the Galaxy)

Would it really be logical to withhold knowledge, when it was his own actions in the first place which have now changed the conditions and thrown the outcomes in doubt, threatening the lives of billions?

You forgot the biggest threat of them all. Tribbles.

I seem to remember the animated series introducing a rather nasty Tribble predator! (you can see it on YouTube) I think that took care of that!

By the way has anybody else seen the 9 minute preview? Pretty exciting, but with an unusual opening. (I swear to God I thought I was watching AI for a second!) Also, the new uniforms some of the crew wore (I wont say why) made them look like candidates for either superheros or the X-men!

I hope the ship makes it through this movie. I get attached to them and get sick of them being destroyed every film. Plus it's a fantastic design.

See I am hoping they don't do too much nastalgia as the concept of this one was to take it into a new direction with an alternate timeline. Some references would be cool. Khan would be cheesy, a tribble or two wouldn't hurt as a reference.

I am thinking this new series will end back in the begining with the old timeline and as if none of it ever happened. TNG dabbled with that concept in the past.

I agree for the most part, but I do like the references to the original series. I'd like to see them doing some exploring and having run-ins with new (and old) species. One of my fav TOS episodes was where kirk battles the Gorn, a dinosaur looking creature. I bet they could make that look amazing with new CGI.

Agreed!

They did do a short reference to the green girl in the first movie which I thought was hilarious. Best to continue like that, A tribble here or there, a Gorn taking a swipe at a crew member maybe, keep it like cameo appearances, but best to keep this series moving forward and not backwards too much. I like the approach so far

I was a little young for Star Trek, so I was not allowed to watch it.  "You will have bad dreams."  I never got into it, except for cheesy horror movies of the 70s/80s instead.

Awesome....we got Batman, Spiderman, Superman, Ironman, X-men, Hulk, , Thor, etc etc etc that take place here on Earth.

This is why I like Star Trek, It takes place somewhere else, It takes you away to other worlds.

I am looking forward to this one.

I love Star Trek especially The Next Gen movies. Captain Picard and William Riker were excellent characters.

Oh my! Anyone else immediately think of the "Millenium Falcon" during the scene where the small ship did a knife edge between two immense buildings? "We're gonna fit!"

Glad you posted this Devon, I was coming here to do just that! :P

This is the best trailer yet shown for Into Darkness.  I am definitely excited to see it now.

I was a little put off by the last ST movie as the time line had changed destroying the most important world to assist Earth as it moved forward into the universe. It's hard for me to get into these new movies with Vulcan gone. I may take this in when it's released to DVD. I have all the series and moves and watching them in order is like reading a good book. The timeline has to be fixed in my book or another series developed to address the new reality. For those of us into the whole story this is a hard watch.

It's been rumored this is a slap in the face to Rick Berman who developed Star Trek further after Gene R died. When Enterprise (which actually answered allot of questions and connected TOS to TNG, DS9, and Voyager) got canceled they ousted Rick from Star Trek and wanted new blood brought to the series to Hollywoodify the story. The suites wanted ST on the level of a Transformers type experience versus the rich world Rich and Gene created. I actually don't know what Gene would think of this take on his creation. When suites get involved who's only motivation is shock value and profit we all know the garbage we end up with, Steve Ballmer type concepts and products. I like what Rick Berman did with the television series/movies and with him removed this new work pales in comparison. There's lots of cool effects and sexy stars but is the story compelling and moves the franchise forward. The verdict is still out for me as I hate Hollywoodish gimmicky movies based on great work (examples would be what George Lucas did with the last three Star Wars movies, Transformers, and now Star Trek. I'm glade Peter Jackson pushed back and fully developed Lord of the Rings which is one of the few jewels to come out in recent years). I will say a good job was done with Batman, X-Men, and the Avengers so all is not lost.

I kinda take the new direction as Star Trek with stylistic borrowings from Starship Troopers and with broad winks and nods to Star Wars. In Starship Troopers, the fisheye lens stretching effect as the ship jumped to faster than light is exactly recreated in the First Star Trek movie when seen through the view-screen as the Enterprise jumps to warp.

The new uniforms (not the old series remakes but all the others) are all very Starship-trooper militaristic with Trek color schemes (and no ties) and finally, the whole Young people straight out of the academy on an adventure thing feels very Starship trooper-ish.

I kinda like it as long as it doesn't get much more overt, but it seems clear to me he borrowed heavily, probably using Troopers as a baseline to create his own stylistic universe from.

I always preferred the older thought provoking trek that challenged social issues, but Trek did introduce characters like Q who could change an entire reality with the snap of his fingers.  Q is actually one of my favorite characters because he does shake up the Starfleet 'stuffiness'.  Even the Vulcan's believe in IDIC...'infinite diversity infinite combinations'...Q, Vulcans, Prophets...etc all basically said everything and anything is possible in Trek.

Trek will go the way it goes, we will always have the classic trek to watch..
