December 22, 201213 yr Which presumably means with time we'll be getting terrain enhancements, new terrain etc...Could DCS be a viable platform for the future of PMDG?
December 22, 201213 yr Commercial Member Sorry to ask... What is DCS? Gerald R https://www.multicrewxp.com
December 22, 201213 yr Digital Combat Simulator - basically PMDG level military simulators for the commercial market. Heres a good intro video:
December 22, 201213 yr Commercial Member I've always wondered why the DCS guys never make a civilian sim... they've certainly got the know how... B. York FS2Crew Web Site / FS2Crew Facebook Page / FS2Crew Discord
December 22, 201213 yr I've always wondered why the DCS guys never make a civilian sim... they've certainly got the know how... I've made a post on the DCS forums to find out what sort of scenery we can expect in the future - If we could get a sizeable area it could be the future of flight simulation. They are currently developing a new engine...it looks amazing. I bet PMDG could really push the limits there, none of these silly "animation limits" lol
December 22, 201213 yr I've always wondered why the DCS guys never make a civilian sim... they've certainly got the know how... They could do the aircraft, but the environments are quite different. Military sims only need to model a theater of operations rather than the whole world. The strategy behind the AI is very different too. Milsims require individual aircraft to behave with realistic performance and tactics. Civil sims needs lots of AI traffic to fly together in a realistic manner, usually with some sort of AI ATC. December 22, 201213 yr It seems that the military simulators have traditionally been a few steps ahead of Microsoft. Going back a few years, I remember the likes of Red Baron, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe and Falcon. As I recall, they left Microsoft in the dust. It's why I am not all that worried about Microsoft's exit from the market. There were flight simulators before Microsoft, and there are flight simulators after Microsoft. Microsoft basically slapped their name on someone else's work. And the people who programmed for Microsoft are still around -- somewhere. If these guys don't do a civilian simulator, someone else will.
December 23, 201213 yr Ryan has the answer http://forum.avsim.n...s/page__hl__dcs if they can model the whole world PMDG will take a look at it, so there's still hope:) Kind regardsR.G
December 23, 201213 yr Don't forget that MSFS started out with only areas. Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, and New York. I don't' think we got the whole world until FS5 or later. Kevin M. Manley
December 23, 201213 yr Commercial Member Gents- I'm an avid DCS A10C flier... I'd LOVE to have an engine that beautiful and functional to work with... but we will have to wait and see where they take it. In my opinion, the DCS simulation provides the best flight control feel of any simulation yet made. As some of you know, I am a lover of the taildragger, which means having a realy good feel for the rudder and aileron relationship. DCS provides a very realistic feel in that regard. Robert S. Randazzo PLEASE NOTE THAT PMDG HAS DEPARTED AVSIM You can find us at: http://forum.pmdg.com

If you built a heavy for DCS in the future when its area of terrain is expanded, I WOULD PAY ANYTHING FOR IT! I would be the guy that'd sit there flying circles in a 747 relaying info to others and...loving every second. Out of interest, have you tried Black Shark 2? I think it's the most challenging aircraft I've ever flown in a sim.
December 23, 201213 yr Their P-51 Simulation is fantastic. If they got the Know How from like Laminar Research on adapting data to build a worldwide scenery, this would certainly be the Next Gen Simulator we all wished for! Alexis Mefano
December 23, 201213 yr The flight dynamics seem miles ahead of even the certified full flight Sims I've worked with. DCS is ahead of the game. Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory. The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire. To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune. There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you. It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

Your list really should have microprose f-19 in as well. As for pmdg - other robert, if it's that good and you personally like playing it, why not just build a plane for it? If pmdg leads, others will follow. I bought the a-10 when it was in beta, sounds like i need to get back and actually learn how to use those systems. December 23, 201213 yr I concur,The DCS Advanced Flight Model is the best available for The Home PC Simulator.IMHO The only thing holding DCS back is the dated Terrain being used,Once Their new "Edge" Terrain Engine is Launched with the Upcoming Map of Nevada it will be like a New Simulation. 100%75%50%d8a34be0e82d98b5a45ff4336cd0dddc Patrick
