December 26, 201213 yr From an older thread: Wish it would get cold here. Looks like a 70 degree Christmas. Well, Swoford... how was your Christmas weather? I live in Bonham, northeast of Dallas, near Oklahoma. We get snow twice a year whether we need it or not. I can only remember one other time in the whole time I've lived in the Dallas area that we had snow on Christmas eve or Christmas day, and that was just a couple of years ago when we woke up to a white Christmas. Some time just after noon today it started snowing, and we got about 2 inches total. I was surprised as the temperature was well in the 40s (F) this morning, but falling, and by late morning there was some freezing rain. This is my second Texas white Christmas. I'm plenty used to snow from being stationed in Germany in the Army, and living in Washington D.C. for 8 years... one night we got 2 feet of snow there. But Texas? This was our second snowfall this year; the first was about 1/8 inch, just enough to allow the cats to make footprints on the porch. We may get snow again, probably not. A typical heavy snowfall is 4 inches here. I've seen more 70 degrees Christmases than ones with snow, even if the snow fell some time earlier. Winters are generally mild here, but I've seen temperatures down to about 11 F (111 F in the summer quite often. ) Swofford doesn't live that far away from me, so I'm wondering how his weather was today. December 26, 201213 yr I think Randy might still be out shoveling the driveway Hook  Ya'll just had to send this storm up my way in Indiana didn't ya lol. Calling for 10 inches with 40mph winds aka blizzard warning starting at 3am. This one storm will give us more snow than we had all of last winter. Got the snowblower ready to roll! When I was stationed in Northern Japan, we had one winter with 245 inches of snow thanks to the Siberian winds coming across the Sea of Japan. An average winter was in the 170-180 inch range. That's enough snow in a year to last a whole lifetime I say. I'm ready to fire up the John Deere and cut grass again!!! Chris Sunseri
December 26, 201213 yr I think Randy might still be out shoveling the driveway Hook I was thinking the same thing, out there shovelling it. But it may cause problems for some of his livestock. Hope all is well anyways. We are having a heat wave, been 92 degrees here so we went to the beach for Christmas to cool off. I don't miss those cold winters back home but cool to see Texas get a white one, so enjoy it while it lasts. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
December 26, 201213 yr Author It's 18 degrees this morning. The snow is still there. I was thinking the same thing, out there shovelling it. But it may cause problems for some of his livestock. Hope all is well anyways. I wonder if he's still wishing it would get cold. The livestock should be ok, it's not that much worse than the 23 degree temps we've had the last week. They'll be in a barn, out of the wind, with feed and water provided. Several years ago we had a major ice storm here. We lost electric power for over a week. Luckily our heat was propane so we were in good shape. I spent a lot of time reading Stephen King novels by candle light and oil lamp. Felt like I was living a Stephen King novel. When I was in Army computer programmer school in Indianapolis around January 1976, we had an ice storm almost as bad. They closed the barracks and school and told us to go stay in motels in the area for a few days. This turned out to be a great experience, as I met a lot of people I wouldn't otherwise. The computer operator school was there, and the clerk school. The people were among the brightest in the Army. Lots of "soldiers, female", too. we had one winter with 245 inches of snow I can't even imagine. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! December 26, 201213 yr Ha I wish. No snow, clear as a bell but 20 degrees and 45 mile an hour wind. Me and the kiddo have been out busting out water troughs this morning. I wish there was snow beats the pants off wind and cold. EDIT: Randy, that image exceeded our limitations by at least twice. Put it on a diet and repost please. Randy Swofford
December 26, 201213 yr Attached Images lol http://bluefive.pair.../pixresizer.htm When I was in Army computer programmer school in Indianapolis around January 1976, we had an ice storm almost as bad. Wow Hook that must have been at Ft Ben. I was still in school about that time... wondering if that was the big blizzard we had. I can remember looking out and seeing the wind blowing the snow and snow drifts up to the window... wondering if we were going to have school that day (nutty superintendent from MN - ALWAYS sent us to school... tho not that day). Nice little storm today. Wondering if I should go out or stay put. Been some time since the truck has played in the snow. December 26, 201213 yr I have snow and cold in my city with another major snowstorm coming in a few hours that's going to ground my fsx/xp10 flights  CTV Montreal Published Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012 8:10AM EST MONTREAL - Quebecers might save themselves some grief by getting those errands done today rather than Thursday. Heavy snow is expected to tumble down onto southern Quebec starting late Wednesday night, making travel considerably more challenging on Thursday. A major storm system from the United States is expected to bring accumulations of between 15 to 25 centimeters of snow. The snow is expected to start during the night and hammer Montreal and Quebec City, Charlevoix, Mauricie, Beauce and the Eastern Townships, hitting hardest in the areas south of the St. Lawrence River. Gusts of 35 to 50 km/h should accompany the flakes and cause blowing snow. Southern Ontario is also expected to be hit by the same storm system. December 26, 201213 yr Heavy snow here in the DTW area. Would be very happy to send it elsewhere!! Regards, Joe Esposito
December 26, 201213 yr Very mild, and almost non-stop rain here in UK (with added flooding for some, which made for a seriously un-festive Christmas), but at least I can get my (diesel) car started without having to spend half an hour de-icing, and then wondering if the battery has enough mojo to turn the engine over long enough to catch. Don't mind snow, but sub-zero temps do bring me down. We're aiming to move to Portugal permanently sometime in February and I won't miss UK weather one bit  "I spent a lot of time reading Stephen King novels by candle light and oil lamp. Felt like I was living a Stephen King novel. " The Shining is the obvious read if you're snowed in and live out in the sticks (like we do..)

Oh and I found out this morning that my new car's boot leaks if you park it facing uphill
