Holy Smoke Batman- X-Plane 10 Global in 64-bits!

Featured Replies

@ BimmerCop G2XPL is just like tileproxy and will make the textures from the source of your choice(right now I am generating a big LOD 18 scenery for Los Angeles) with plans to add (converted) Aerosoft LA and some airports.

@Manny Aerosoft is already making stuff for XPX. PMDG has something the works.

Some of the FT stuff can be converted over readily using FS2XP.

20mins ago, the mailman just dropped off my 2nd copy of xp10 global which was $59.99 after Christmas, I have many xp10 fans in da house

Jcomm has passed the xp10 torch to Robert  Robert is now our #1 xp10 Public Relations Person

What is the resolution of ground textures? Does it have something like TileProxy for FSX where I can use photoreal textures on the fly from Bing, at 30cm resolution?

There is no resolution specifically for ground textures. Basically, XP10 is set up with a generic ground texture as the base, the road laid on top, then a building and it's applicable surroundings (fence, swing set, grill, car, driveway, tree in the yard) are added in on top of that ground in a land plot devised from a programmed routine that figures out where building will go. There is no "CITY" texture underneath, so you do not get the roads crossing city blocks or running right through a building as you do in FSX and XP9. There is no photo-scenery per-se, but addons are coming that give those features, but the resolution of those textures is dependent on the developer of the addon. There is no such idea in default XP10.

I love XP10-64x. The only problem right now is that many of the real good addons don't work with it.

That said, it seems that FlyJSim's 727 works good in 64bit and I love that aircraft.

I hope the new Airbus and some of the others will make their products compatible with 64bit really soon.

Also, the specs reported in the XP10 requirements page specifying DX11 preferred just means that a card that can do DX11 (having more current hardware and higher memory in support of DX11) will work better for XP10 (albeit using OpenGL, but still bound by textures that need to go in memory and GPU power that do all sorts of things that are part of rendering an image).

Cheers to Laminar for gifting us with 64-bit technology right NOW - today. A dream come true!

Talking of ground textures, when I fly in the US I see a lot of fields with circles in. What is that (UFO crop circles?) and is it like that in reality?

Gentlemen, I believe we have a convert! :D

ETA: Deetee, those are center pivot irrigation systems. You can read all about them here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Center_pivot_irrigation

There's a lot of them in central Washington, and when I first saw them, I thought the same as you, re: crop circles. :)

Thank you for enlightening me, interesting stuff!

Hey Robert - your enthusiasm for X-Plane is great! I picked it up recently and am going through the exact same experience - I keep coming away with a big grin on my face. A bunch of WOW factors that start with the night lighting and go through to how much you can crank up the autogen and traffic.

I think we're lucky coming onboard now - timing wise 10.11 was just finalised, and then quikly the beta for 64 bit started with all the new art assets strating to be dropped in to the product. That's part of the reasons why the season textures haven't been implemented - the art is still being added and refined ... but it means we should see seasons fairly soon.

There's still some issues with flight dynamics and a few other bits and pieces but I think what the small team behind X-Plane have managed recently and I'm really impressed.

I just picked up the Blackshape Prime - a great, really well priced light aircraft that is just a real enjoyable thing to fly along with the CRJ-200 and Aerosoft's ATR 72-500.

As for airports you really have to try out the freeware airports from Chris K - his Sydney, Adelaide and Christchurch airports look brilliant. Thene there's Frede's freeware airports that bring a bunch of life in to the US airports. And you have to checkout alpilotx's site - http://www.alpilotx.net/downloads/x-plane-10-hd-scenery-mesh/ especially the New Zealand files.

On top of that I got Aerosoft's Zurich and Amsterdam and TropicalSim's Washington and have to say I'm impressed.

I also used freeware G2Xpl to create my own cool photoscenery areas, and I'm starting to use FS2Xpl to convert a bunch of FSX and FS2004 add-ons. The last one sometimes takes a bit of work to clean up but it shows how easily some developers could port their payware.

Things are still improving on this platform, and move developers are coming onboard as they realise the potential. I think once 64bit goes final we should see most add-ons that require plugins (Carenado will be updating their aircraft which are designed for X-Plane 9.7) updated or additional ones like the new AI aircraft plugin begin to be provided to the market, and Aerosoft are working on AES/AESlite capability.

There's enough misery and negativity in the World it really is good to find something that can make you smile!

Danny, do you have a link to download G2XPL? I can't find it...

Also, what about home cockpits? I am building a Cessna 172SP full size home cockpit with 3 projectors. Will XP allow me to create detached windows so I can have the gauges on a 4th monitor?
