January 13, 201313 yr Commercial Member Hey Efrain! Yes, the closer you look into XPXG (X-Plane 10 Global), the better and better she looks! Then you discover X-Plane.org which is the site that offers both freeware -and- payware for X-Plane, and the world opens up even more. The free airport upgrades on X-Plane.org are stunning... far better than the 'default' airports that ship with FSX in my opinion. The daytime views today when I landed at San Diego (KSAN) were amazing. I STRONGLY recommend you consider the MSi 4GB DDR5 GTX680 card. (with famous FROZER-III cooling system 20 degrees C cooler than the nVidia reference design!) The important keyword is DOUBLE the VRAM memory on your video card. As you begin piling on the eye candy, particularly in HDR resolution, you will NEED that doubled Video card ram! Without 4GB (most video cards start at 512MB, then 1GB, 1.5 and till now 2GB was 'max'. Suddenly you can buy the 4GB version - this is a _MUST_ if you think you will be XPlane at the best eye-candy levels! I have the GTX690 which is a pair of GTX680 processors in SLI on one card, but each Keppler graphics processor only has 2GB per-side. Even though combined there is 4GB of memory, this is only a 'mirror', not 4GB available to the PC for gaming! So better for xPlane would be the GTX 680 but ONLY if you buy the top-model with 4GB of DDR5 memory. Please keep us posted on your progress. I bought the Javier Cortes payware UFMC (Universal FMC), he also has a 737-specific version for 20 Euros each. The default FMC in xPlane is sadly, not much like the real-world, and if you fly jets in FSX, you will NEED to upgrade the FMC. There is a FREE version available called xFMC which works "OK". I don't know yet if Javier's is better as I haven't got my unlock key from him yet. Rob, checkout my PC specs ;-) As for flying jets, I've given up on that. I am concentrating on setting up a full fledge Cessna 172/182 home cockpit. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 Regards, Efrain RuizLiveDISPATCH @ http://www.livedispatch.org (CLOSED) ☹️
January 13, 201313 yr Author Rob, checkout my PC specs ;-) Wow! You already got the 4GB FTW card! (drool!) Hope you can post some screenshots from XPlane 10 so we can see what those 4GB can do! I for one would really appreciate being able to see it myself! R. Scott McDonald B738/L Information is anecdotal only-without guarantee & user assumes all risks of use thereof. I for one would really appreciate being able to see it myself! And mine is running at 1294/6884 since I have it modified with a H80 water cooler. ;-) Temps never pass 50C under full load on FSX/XP. As for eye candy, I have EVERYTHING to the MAX on XP 10. It's simply unreal. Nightflying is just pure awesomeness. It really looks like a plausible world, especially with HDR enabled. January 13, 201313 yr Holy smoke guys... I did a quick lap at night with HDR enabled and I WAS BLOWN AWAY!!!! Just wow! I'm sorry, but especially when it comes to night flying, FSX cannot hold a handle to XP 10. No way. The more I try XP, the more I am digging it. Unfortunately in my situation, I think if I want to go with XP 10 for my home cockpit setup, I will be forced to get 2 more PCs in order to use them for the visuals, with a 4th PC for instruments. I definately can't afford 2 more PCs similar to my current one, so I need to really weigh in my options. Perhaps, I can build two i5s with 580GTXs and then tone down my i7 so that all 3 PCs perform similarly as far as IQ is concerned? Which brings me to my next question... I really want to use G2XPL but if I go with 3 PCs, will that means that EACH PC will also need to have G2XPL running? That's 3x the download when it comes to the photoreal images!!!! Damn, so many options and decisions to just fly a simulator! welcome to the family, now go to your room young man and fly xplane10 until dinner is ready  also get a couple of awesome pmdglike payware like CRJ 200 or 777 Worldliner(plus a few others), wait until you see the weather effects on the payware planes: frozen windows, rain, etc.

I'm a GA (C172/182) type of guy now. LOL I guess I need to buy the Carenado 172 for XP. Speaking of which, I wonder if the Opencockpits IOCards work with XP? So many things, I really need to sit down and make a TO-DO list. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 Regards, Efrain RuizLiveDISPATCH @ http://www.livedispatch.org (CLOSED) ☹️
January 14, 201313 yr Thre are some really nice freeware airports and aircraft in development and available from folks over at the X-pilot forums as well. I just discovered that someone's working on a freeware 787 that looks like it's going to blow the payware one away in terms of eye candy, and the author says he'll work to incorporate deeper systems in later versions. To compare, the payware version isn't exactly a systems trainer, so... This video says X-Plane 9, but the author has said it will work fine in 10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rq6CUv3atA "No matter how eloquent you are or how solidly and firm you've built your case, you will never win in an argument with an idiot, for he is too stupid to recognize his own defeat." ~Anonymous.
January 14, 201313 yr Here is some motivation to add XP10 to one's Flight sim inventory just in case you folks missed it
January 14, 201313 yr Author Flew into Runway 27 tonight at KSAN (San Diego) in X-Plane 10. It was mind-numbingly great on the graphics. You could see the red taillights of the traffic on the freeway driving away from you and the white headlights of the cars coming towards you as you descended over the downtown buildings for the runway. As I passed over the freeway, my landing lights in the 737 illuminated the tall buildings that are a prominent feature of the RWY 27 RNAV approach at KSAN. Quite spectacular as the buildings loomed up out of the darkness under the bright lights from the aircraft. Looking to the side, I could see the freeway traffic WINDING up the hill for the inland valleys. As real as it gets? Ya THINK??? I NEVER had an experience like that in FSX. It's several levels beyond anything I've seen in FSX or any other 'home-simulator' of any kind. The smoothness of the graphics (I am getting insane frames and much better anti-aliasing than I ever dreamed of in FSX. The vehicles in FSX are incredibly poor. They drive through each other and make military square turns. The night flights in FSX are a shimmering nightmare that require incessant anti-aliasing tweaks. I've spent ungodly amounts of time trying to make FSX run solid and reliable. Then I bought CYVR and got pushed out of the car and into x-Plane. Please consider test-flying the new X-Plane 10 demo. It's really THAT good. And it's not even 'fully refined' yet. Compared to what it was in early days, WOW. Recommend upping your GAMMA levels to a higher number in Nvidia control panel, night flights may appear much too dark at default nVidia setting of 1.0. Try 1.25 or a bit higher, and you'll be able to see much better during night flight. You can add the airport buildings and jetways with tons of freeware at x-Plane.org. Also there are some nice payware planes (no, not PMDG _YET_). The eye candy in X-Plane is just insane. And that's mostly right out of the box, without all the add-on payware that has caused my FSX setup to slow to a crawl. If you've invested in mid to high end hardware, I couldn't say enough about X-Plane... for sure worth looking into! I feel the pain of those who aren't 100% sold on XP- it's not perfect. The fly by numbers, the detachable gauges that you can drag to a 2nd or 3rd monitor, the FMC that works flawlessly and allows for perfect ILS approaches including CAT III- those are all advantages of FSX and weaknesses in xP. I also agree the modeling of the payware planes isn't up to PMDG levels - more's the pity. BUT, I was getting FPS of 60 to 100 tonight with pretty high details and a TON of moving autos... in my FSX setup I had to KILL the autos completely (boats/ships too) to avoid getting into the sub-20 FPS. That's just insane on a box I built myself that had (at the time) pretty high-end hardware. At the end of the day, my feeling is x-Plane 10 as it stands now with a ton of freeware widely available is a GAME CHANGER. Warts and all. Did I mention no OOMs or CTDs? Given the huge disparity of resources between Laminar and Microsoft, Laminar has done a DAZZLING job. The sheer magnitude of what they've already done cries out for recognition and respect. The genius of Laminar is that they listen to what people want - and they have already brought something that grabs your attention from jump, and keeps on thrilling you as new features are added and refined. Running on your choice of Windows, Linux and MAC (excludes some Mac models) coming to an airfield near you! Given time, I think xPlane will continue to evolve and sooner or later, the third-parties will jump in with both feet. When that happens, it will be ON! R. January 14, 201313 yr +1 I had a pleasant flight in the B787 on Saturday and was blown away by the night graphics when I arrived in Oslo (despite the moon and stars leaking into the countryside but that's a known bug). the night was rather black I have to admit so I may try turning up the gamma as Robert suggests, although I'm sure that's possible from within XP10. S'funny 'cause I have all the kit and eye candy payware for FSX (Orbx/NGX/AXE/Opus/ProATC), yet I just can't keep away from XP10. There's something about it that I like so much that I can forgive it's foibles because in the end I get a better experience, and I know it's only going to get better. It also gives my new MSi GTX680 4GB a real workout!

January 14, 201313 yr As most of you guys I have both FSX and XP10, both with many payware add ons. Sometimes I force myself to start up FSX just to fly 737NGX (PMDG hello - there IS a market for your 737NGX around here!). After couple of minutes I have enough, switch to XP10 and enjoy flying. I have quite powerful machine and with almost all settings maxed out on XP10 64bit I still get very decent frame rates. Unfortunately that is not the case with FSX. Common - who can fly with 15 fps? Not me. I can probably tweak the .cfg, find tons of patches for payware, etc. and have some improvement of fps for FSX. The problem is I am not into tweaking, I just want to fly. Sure there are many things still missing in XP10, but I just enjoy it much more than FSX (even the 32bit with lower settings to avoid OOM). There is not question PMDG 737NGX is the best payware aircraft out there, however there are more and more good ones for XP10 already there or coming (FlashIsisMayia signature + JS32). So that yes, 64bit XP10 is a big jump and the eyecandy is nowhere to be found in FSX, but I would prefer even the 32bit XP10 instead of FSX. For me, there is just no comparison... Jan Betlach

I think this year will be the year when I completely stop supporting fsx and focus my attention on building my xplane10 library of payware. FSDT CYVR and the AirbusX were my last purchases. 2013 is the year for xp10! Owning high end hardware and getting low fps is just so annoying, xp10 is silky smooth :drinks:

Have been thinking about the AirbusX, but decided against. It would be the same as with 737NGX - couple of minutes and back to XP10. Makes no sense for me. I am waiting for the Mac version of A320NEO - btw how it is compare to AirbusX? Jan Betlach
