January 21, 201313 yr TrackIR is natively supported in XP10, and I wouldn't fly without it. It just needs enabling in the Equipment menu and works in the 3D cockpit view. Together with the zoom on the mouse-wheel it makes panning and zooming feel very natural and intuitive. A word of advice: assign the TrackIR pause function to the middle mouse button as you will need it paused to use more easily use the manipulators (knobs, controls etc). You can also activate an effect called Cinema Vérité in XP to simulate a sort of dynamic head movement. As someone who uses Opus / EZDok etc, in FSX, I am quite happy with this set up in XP10.

January 21, 201313 yr Very nice video Steve. The Jetstream 32 is a very nice addition to XPX. Thanks Muskoka. I used to make a lot of FSX videos. One of them even featured on the front page of Orbx for their Concrete payware scenery as their main promotional video for about a year. For me, it's time to turn my attention to X-plane 10. I'm so amazed at the potential that the platform brings. With all it's flaws, one would have to be crazy not to give X-plane 10 a chance especially for the price of a couple of mid range FSX add-ons! It's not possible not to have fun with it especially when you add a couple of good freeware scenery and payware a/c to it. To be honest, even with just freeware it can blow your mind. A good example is the photo scenery you can download for free for nearly all of Europe. When you see all the objects usually perfectly placed on top, it's just breathtaking and for me looks so much better than Tileproxy. How can you beat photo scenery with accuratley place autogen (well a few landmarks would be nice ). Added to this I recently downloaded the new freeware Piper Cub. It's better than the MS Flight one and actually has a cockpit and is......free! Check out this video of free photo scenery for Switzerland I downloaded for near where I'm currently living. This was before I realized I wasn't even running on the highest resolution which now looks so much better (and makes me realize I need a new GPU!) Xplane 10 is simply stunning and needs the attention of developers to capitalize on this. It also needs the support of the simming community. So come on, if you can afford FSX add-ons, sacrifice a couple and buy X-plane 10. You won't regret it! With all my FSX add-ons, I don't! And who says you can't use both anyway. I for one though haven't touched FSX since installing the demo of Xplane nevermind the full version (which I got a few weeks back). I really enjoyed my years with FSX. It may not be dead in terms of addons but for me visually there is no comparison. Also, the flight dynamics are actually pretty good once you tune your joystick (maybe I will do a tutorial video for this because unfortunately this was the hardest part of getting started with Xplane and initially drove me away). I really hope that 10.30 brings the 64 bit stability to coax the big developers to start producing for it. I also hope keep on adding to the scenery and features. Cheers, Steve

Hi Steve, where can you get all this photo scenery with autogen please? Thanks David
January 21, 201313 yr Xplane 10 is simply stunning and needs the attention of developers to capitalize on this. It certainly appears so. When will seasonal changes happen to scenery? That's a pretty big deal. 3rd party sources only? I'm really surprised with as much development as has been done for FSX that LM isn't seriously turning the core engine into 64-bit code. I guess they might be, but others here have thought not. I'm guessing it's a huge huge project but still, the writing is on the wall--the old engine has no future. January 21, 201313 yr Hi Steve, where can you get all this photo scenery with autogen please? Hi David, Here is the link - http://zonephoto.x-plane.fr/index.php As long as you don't turn off roads, trees and objects, they will automatically line up with the satellite photos as the autogen is based on openstreetmap. It's pretty accurate. Cheers, Steve
January 21, 201313 yr Apparently dev kits are being sent out now. And all reports I've read say it's amazing with games like skyrim, so flight sims should be stunning. That would be brilliant! I reckon Palmer Luckey (Oculus Rift developer) is a closet flight simmer, especially since he mentioned this in Forbes: "What games are you most excited to play on the Oculus Rift? We already have support for two games, Doom 3 BFG Edition and Hawken. Both of those games are a blast in the Rift! I can’t comment on specific titles in the future, but I am particularly excited about titles that allow you to fly. Looking down from the sky in VR is a very powerful experience, one that I can’t wait for other people to try as well." http://www.forbes.com/sites/eliseackerman/2013/01/11/will-oculus-rift-be-the-coolest-gadget-ever-an-interview-with-creator-palmer-luckey/ Love this reaction video from journalists too! http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2013/01/18/some-early-reactions-to-the-oculus-rift-virtual-reality-headset/ X-Plane 10 would be even greater with Virtual Reality support. Come on Austin what are you waiting for?

January 22, 201313 yr Wow - That blew me away! Never seen anything in FSX like this also xp10 has no stutters or pop-in autogen....it's all smooth and in-place.
January 22, 201313 yr also xp10 has no stutters or pop-in autogen....it's all smooth and in-place. One thing that I REALLY appreciate about X-Plane is its handling of shadows. Shadows in FSX could be a frame killer, especially ground scenery shadows. They can degrade frames in X-Plane too if you set them to the highest levels, but even the lower settings looks better than FSX without making XP unflyable. January 22, 201313 yr Wow, this is exciting. Makes going for super high end hardware worth it! I'm looking into 6 cores x 2 for 12 cores, and 2x2 GPUs. Bring on the 3rd party devs! January 22, 201313 yr Author Go for 4GB of VRAM on your GPU card - the MSi GTX 680 is available with 4GB of VRAM. I have a GTX690 that has 4GB 'total' split between the dual GPU chips - and I bump my head on the texture ceiling - I am running with all 2GB of VRAM in use... but if I had 4GB I could max the textures out at highest setting. Dual graphics card (SLI or GTX690 with oncard SLI) are not supported in XPlane at the present time AFAIK. Thus you'd be wasting your dough on 2 GlPUs. That of course may change over time. R.
