Can't reach FL290

Featured Replies

After doing a few flights above Norway without any problems, I suddenly had trouble getting to my crz alt of FL290. At something like 210 the speed already became to go lower then planned and fpm also became lower and lower... In the end I didn't get higher then somewhere around 270 and then I had to descend. When I did fpm went up to 5500 in no time...

Any idea what could be the (sudden) cause of this? As I said I didn't have this problem at all during similar flights before.

What weather engine are yiu using? I had problems with AS2012 and outside air temps.

TAT at the moment was -7.

I am using OpusFSX, have been since quite some time and never had this problem. I also use FS2Crew so it's almost impossible to forget a setting.

Could you tell us about :

- Fuel Load

-Payload

-OAT

-Winds Aloft

Cheers :)

Fuel load was okay: only some 13.000 (it was a short flight) so that can't be the problem. Payload was around 90%. OAT... I only looked at TAT on the display, which showed -7. Wait, I will fire up FSX and see what OpusFSX reports...

I'm back. Weather at FL300L is temp -51 and wind 325/68

CI was 25, which I always use.

Sounds a bit like an icing problem. The plane might be too heavy to fly that high, was the AI on?

Disable Grib weather in download options and try again. Grib causes me strange problems with TAT.

Anti ice was on, yes. At least engine AI. The copilot always turns off wing AI.

Turn off Grib... Will do that if things go wrong again. I just started entering winds etc. in the FMC (mainly for the fun of it) and it would be a pity to turn the weather up there off again. (Don't really know what weather I get up there Grib...?)

What aircraft where you trying to fly, and what was the altimeter reading at the time of the flight?

I had problems in a single engine prop (Aviat Husky) not wanting to climb when the pressure was over 31.00. ??? I dont know why, it just wouldn't.

Does the ngx even simulate icing? I have yet to see any icing effects or warnings with the ngx and I fly mostly in Norway. Anyway I think a screen shot of the cockpit would be the best Jeroen.

Yes, I know, but when you are busy trying to save the life of your passengers you don't think about taking pictures... :P If it happens again, I will make a screenshot and post it.
