Are you looking for bad weather?

In case you're like me and enjoy flying to precision minimums.... I recommend going to skyvector.com. Make sure "Text Weather Icons" is set in the upper right hand corner (layers button).

http://skyvector.com/

It's map/METAR function gives a nice broad view of weather at airports with METAR reporting stations.

What you do is zoom far out until you start seeing the colored dots on the map. Purple is LIFR (low ifr - less than 1mi vis and less than 500 ft cigs), red is IFR, blue is MVFR (marginal vfr 3-5 mi vis 1000-3000ft cigs), and green is good VFR weather.

I realize there's web sites out there where you can enter what you prefer but this is just a quick graphical way to see where the crap weather is

Thanks Ryan, that's fantastic! I like the turbulence indicated by blue borders, crappy weather here we come! Just tried KFAR Fargo, a lovely crosswind and turbulence, video coming in a day!

Oh my you went to Fargo... what a horrible town lol! I spent 5 years at the university in Grand Forks (about 1 hr north).... I flew to FAR a few times while in school. Very flat land on the east side of ND. The western portion is quite beautiful, lots of rolling hills and buttes.

Were you flying FSX? If so were you using accufeel with the turbulence? I'm inclined to buy that program at some point.

Ha, a coincidence then. I only went there as your tool showed bad weather, not it's good community facilities! Even the name sounds a bit depressing.

Oh god yes, get Accu feel 2 and Opus, an impressive combo. Going home now to edit my footage of the flight. Yes I flew fsx, this combo challenges xplane for flying feel.

I've got OPUS. I don't use their camera portion though. I've got Track IR. How does the accufeel turbulence work? Is it just a camera effect or is it some sort of new game physics that makes the plane bump around in the air?
