January 22, 201313 yr I'd like to purchase FSUIPC for FSX, but all the info I can find is several years old. For those of you using it, how good is it at smoothing out wind shifts at altitude. I get wild shifts that continuously put my PMDG 747 into the low and high speed barber poles. This makes it impossible for me to use winds aloft data. Thanks. January 22, 201313 yr i think it's extremely important if you you're networking pc's together, I use WIDEFS every launch
January 22, 201313 yr how good is it at smoothing out wind shifts at altitude. Consider getting Active Sky 2012 which will not only address this issue but will also give you better weather graphics, an advanced dynamic weather engine, weather data sheets for your FMC programming, and access to live and historical (back 2 years) weather data. Cheers Clark Clark Janes
January 22, 201313 yr Author I'm not doing anything like that now, although I may at some point. I just really want to know about it's wind smoothing capabilities for now. Thanks for your response. January 22, 201313 yr Moderator In short, yes. FSUIPC has been one of the best and most useful things I've ever spent on FS! It is the veritable "Swiss Army Knife" of flightsim utility programs, capable of doing far, far more than simply smoothing winds aloft... B) Fr. January 22, 201313 yr FSUIPC is known as the Swiss Army knife of FSX. Even though you only could find info that is a several years old, it is a must have for all FSX users. Have you checked the manual? It is well documented what you can do about your problem. Look for page 14 in "FSUIPC4 User Guide.pdf".
January 22, 201313 yr Author I was thinking about getting Active Sky 2012. I'm waiting for service pack 2 to finish the Beta phase. Pete Locascio Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, Nvidia RTX 5090, Samsung 9100 Pro 2&4 TB Drives, 64 GB RAM, Asus Z-890 motherboard.
January 22, 201313 yr And, does the windsmoothing work with the default FSX WX engine or only WX addons? Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
January 22, 201313 yr Moderator And, does the windsmoothing work with the default FSX WX engine or only WX addons? Since it works within FS's own program space, it will work with any weather source. January 22, 201313 yr Author Does Active Sky 2012 load and update the actual winds aloft and metars during the flight? Also, if I download AS2012 now, do I get all the updates, or do I have to download all the SP2 updates separately? I've never purchased an update while it was still in Beta, so I'm not sure how that works. Thanks Pete Locascio Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, Nvidia RTX 5090, Samsung 9100 Pro 2&4 TB Drives, 64 GB RAM, Asus Z-890 motherboard.
January 22, 201313 yr AS will update weather during your flight if you wish, and at intervals that you wish (15 mins, 1 hour, etc). It can also download any weather condition from up to two years ago and freeze at that moment with no updates if you wish. I don't know what version is currently shipping but the updates are easy to download and apply. The beta updates are stable so don't hesitate to try them if you can't wait. Clark Janes
January 22, 201313 yr The bottom line on fsuipc is that if you plan to do any serious flight simming then fsuipc is a MUST HAVE. Wind smoothing is just a very minor capability of the program. In fact, I have been using the licensed version for 8-10 years and don't remember ever really needing that feature. Got to the fsuipc website and just scan the operator's manual to get an idea of its usefulness. No, I do not work for Peter Dowson but I must give him credit for a great piece of software. January 22, 201313 yr Agreed, genius piece of kit. I use it to control my Saitek hardware in stead of the hopeless FSX axis controls, I map PTT buttons to SB4 on my networked PC, autosave will save my day if CTD, windsmoothing with RW weather programs that can make planes like the ones from PMDG behave badly, etc. etc.
January 22, 201313 yr Hi Tamba765, I have FSUIPC installed. I didn't really know what it did until late last year when I bought a Saitek yoke, pedals, throttle quadrants, and found that they just wouldn't work with the supplied software like it said they should. I spent nearly two frustrating weeks persevering with the software to no avail. In the end I turned to FSUIPC after getting advice on here and within a few hours everything worked as i wanted, to the extent that I can assign any button or axis in FSX to any control on my yoke set up. I can even set up profiles for each plane in my hanger so different controls work different things in the plane. I think it was definitely worth every penny, and it's so easy to use too. Brilliant!
