Improving my little corner of the world...

Featured Replies

Morn'n Folks,

...one tile at a time... While every day there seems to be fewer and fewer of "us" - just wanted to share some PIX of a project I've been working on for the past several months... We certainly can't get the pop and wow factor of FSX - but - I'm working on improving my little corner of the FS9 world... So far this project uses custom mesh - photo real images with all five seasons - modified landclass - custom water map - updated autogen - custom seasonal foliage - and - a few new models... When you start packing autogen to it's maximum density - FS9 can look pretty good... I've got it setup with many shared models from the various libraries people were kind enough to share... I'm working on a bunch of new models as well... I was planning some high res ground polys but I'm starting to like the way it looks with the base images I have loaded now... It's still very much a work in progress - tons left to do - and - I can't thank the guys over at FSDeveloper enough for all the help...

I think you're doing a great job there. I wouldn't even know how to start doing something like that. Good for you mate!

Thanks guys - and - Gary - your one of the reasons I'm pretty happy with the results - you've certainly spent enough time educating me...

:)

The county sized community airports have always been so neglected in FS9 - I'm really surprised of the popularity of ORBX... The only top payware developer to hit anything like this - outside the Pacific Northwest - was Vauchez (spelling) from Flight Scenery... At least the only one I can think of... I really miss that company - I loved their product model - hit a major airport somewhere - but update the whole area and include improving some of the smaller GA airports around it...

Every step in the process is learning something new...

Scott

Outstanding! It reminds me of my Flightzone sceneries. I love when designers don't just do the airport, but the area surrounding it as well.

That looks really great! I gotta say, I started using FS9 to be able to run the big stuff smoothly, but with every little airport gem like this that gets released as a labor of love, it's becoming more and more my main place to fly.

Thanks folks...

Flightzone was one of my favorites... I still use both thier products often...

Yeah - LOL - there is no way to even remotely justify the number of hours spent at this to a paycheck... This could be the most expensive addon FlightSim has ever seen and I'd still be working for pennies an hour... Ya gotta love what you do and just give it away... Seems like so many more folks did that back when this hobby was still in it's infancy...

Scott

That looks really good, Scott. Please keep us updated on your progress.

Good to know that your corner is so close to mine. I passed two checkrides at MGJ and fly out of HPN.

Morn'n Folks,

Thanks for the comments...

Yeah - I started on my license with Freedom Air at KMGJ but I switched to Richmor over at KPOU... I like the structured syllabus and greater availability of instructors over there... First my Dad and then I had the corner hangar in the cinderblock hangars closest to 21 at KMGJ for years... What a great place to pull up beach or Beech - LOL - chair on summer late afternoon and watch the flight ops... About 6 months ago - to save a few bucks I moved up to KMSV... Hangars about half the price - but - KMSV has no real atmosphere... I really miss KMGJ but with the money I'm saving I really didn't have a choice... Maybe one of the reasons I started this little project...

Never been to KHPN - GA friendly - or are you treated like second class citizens by ATC ?

Hi Ian,

Thanks - LOL - by my count I've "planted" over 10,000 trees on 25 tiles... Still working on the buildings...

Definitely GA friendly but it is also a busy airspace with commercial and corporate traffic (a lot of corporate). Just keep up with the flow (I don't mean speed but situational awareness) and there should be no problem. Then again on a nice summer weekend the VFR traffic at MGJ gets nutty as well. Personally I'd rather have a tower to work with when it gets that busy.
