February 7, 201313 yr Sad to see it happen, but I guess that's the future of airlines. A merger between American Airlines and US Airways will likely be announced next week. Maybe in 20 years we'll have only one airline and WOAI won't have to close their doors, making their life much easier. RJ
February 7, 201313 yr Wow, I was hoping this wouldn't go through. These oversize airlines is not a good trend. FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
February 7, 201313 yr This was predicted to happen when the airline industry was deregulated. If you think it's bad for the consumer, you should be an airline employee. This will be my fourth merger in almost 34 years with Allegheny/US Air/US Airways. I work at DFW, and I'm sure some of my co-workers will be hitting the street when this is finished.
February 7, 201313 yr Can't say I'm surprised. I seen this coming before I even got laid off from American Airlines back in December. So prepare for the Umbrella Corp. repaints! ^_^ Seriously, while the theory of a super big company doesn't necessarily mean bad things, I agree with you guys that, the more they merge markets and players, the less appealing the practical side becomes. :mellow: Good luck to all the folks involved. I think Mike points out some downsides.
February 7, 201313 yr A merger between American Airlines and US Airways will likely be announced next week. I thought this was pretty much a done deal long ago. This announcement just makes it official. Was the news of American's bankruptcy and merger talks with US Air just mostly local Dallas news, or did it receive wide coverage? I live near Dallas, so we get the Dallas news stations, including WFAA. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
February 7, 201313 yr Larry, It's been rumored for a while but negotiations have been going on hot and heavy for the last month. At the upper levels, they are all looking to position themselves for the max payout when they leave. We obviously hear more about it in the North Texas area because American is based here and is one of the largest employers in the area. There was a dead period because of the NDA's so it appeared that nothing was going on. Nationally, this story has been out there, but it hasn't gotten a lot of play. I think maybe the public is now resigned to these mega mergers.
February 7, 201313 yr Author This will be my fourth merger in almost 34 years with Allegheny/US Air/US Airways. Mike, forth merge? I feel for you and hope this will not effect you negatively. I thought this was pretty much a done deal long ago. This announcement just makes it official. Hook I was aware of the talks about the merger, but was surprised that it's now going to happen. Either way, I feel for all the people involved because mergers only mean one thing... Job cuts. After Americans new color launch, I wonder what livery will be decided on. RJ
February 7, 201313 yr The airline industry is forever ruined. I'm old enough to remeber when flying was a big deal, now it's like any other cattle transport... Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
February 7, 201313 yr Mike, forth merge? I feel for you and hope this will not effect you negatively RJ, Because of the amount of time I have with US Airways, I don't think it's going to have a huge effect on me, although nothing is etched in stone. A lot depends on how the seniority issue is handled. That being said, I know some of my co-workers at DFW will be impacted either by lay-off or being displaced to another station. We know when we take the job that being forced to transfer is part of the deal. That doesn't make it any easier. I was in Cleveland for 24 years before I was displaced to DFW almost 10 years ago. I grew up in an American Airlines family. My father and both of my brothers retired at American, so it's just a little bit ironic that my career will end working for American Airlines. I got over the company loyalty thing a long time ago. I don't care who's name is on the side of the airplane, just as long as the check cashes every two weeks. As far as the livery goes, I'd like to see them get rid of that hideous tail and go with the dark blue with the AA and the eagle. I thought it looked a lot classier.
February 7, 201313 yr After Americans new color launch, I wonder what livery will be decided on. They'll probably just keep the American livery, and it'll be Northwest/Delta all over again. CYYB, North Bay, Ontario, Canada. Avro all the way!

February 9, 201313 yr http://www.slate.com...e_s_unions.html The flag on the tail just looked US Airwaysish to me, according to that read, that perception appears inaccurate. Thank you for the link. Regards; Fritz
