Best antivirus?

I know I will probably get a ton of different responses but what YOU think is the best antivirus software?

I care only care about detecting viruses and malware, not suites which include all sorts of features and shields which just add like 20 services to a PC.

Thanks guys!

BTW, I'm currently using Avast! but it seems to have allowed at least 5 viruses without ever detecting the, in real time. Scan is up to 33% as I type this and it's detected 5 so far.

I had ESET NOD32. I now have MSE which I prefer.

I used AVG Free for many years and it never let anything through, but in past couple years AVG has become a system resource hog and so I ditched it for the free Microsoft Security Essentials, which has done its job fine for the last 2 years, and doesn't chew system resources.

Ok guys, I went with MSE and I actually like it! After a scan, it detected some trojans that Avast! didn't detect. It's not a resource hog, very streamline and got the job done. Let's see how well it behaves in the long run. Happy camper here.

Thanks!

Good choice... It has been behaving on two PCs I have it on for over two years so you shouldnt have too many problems I would not expect.

I use MSE as well and have been since it first came out. No complaints, doesn't rob resources. Anything but McAfee or Symantec

Kasperski is probably still the best, but for a free engine Avast is still one of the best Efrain, MSSE failed a recent industry benchmark for anti virus engines, see here

I see WR, but in my case, with an up-to-date Avast, it let 6 viruses into my PC and didn't detect them until I did a manual scan. It means the real-time shield failed. Even after the scan, there were still other trojans left behind which it failed to detect as well.
