March 2, 201313 yr Commercial Member I know I will probably get a ton of different responses but what YOU think is the best antivirus software? I care only care about detecting viruses and malware, not suites which include all sorts of features and shields which just add like 20 services to a PC. Thanks guys! BTW, I'm currently using Avast! but it seems to have allowed at least 5 viruses without ever detecting the, in real time. Scan is up to 33% as I type this and it's detected 5 so far. March 3, 201313 yr Commercial Member I used AVG Free for many years and it never let anything through, but in past couple years AVG has become a system resource hog and so I ditched it for the free Microsoft Security Essentials, which has done its job fine for the last 2 years, and doesn't chew system resources. March 3, 201313 yr Author Commercial Member Ok guys, I went with MSE and I actually like it! After a scan, it detected some trojans that Avast! didn't detect. It's not a resource hog, very streamline and got the job done. Let's see how well it behaves in the long run. Happy camper here. Thanks! It has been behaving on two PCs I have it on for over two years so you shouldnt have too many problems I would not expect. March 3, 201313 yr I use MSE as well and have been since it first came out. No complaints, doesn't rob resources. Anything but McAfee or Symantec Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

It means the real-time shield failed. Even after the scan, there were still other trojans left behind which it failed to detect as well.
