FlightMap - Android Google Map Tracking (GPS Like) for Flight Simulator X

I've been working on a new app for the past few weeks and I think it's really coming along nicely. There are not many GPS like apps for Android out there. I've been wanting one for my SimPit for some time so I finally decided to write my own. It's been a fun little project with some nice challenges. I could probably go on and on about it but videos and screenshots speak more than words.

I do hope to release it soon. I'm ironing out a few final bugs and I'm working with a graphic artist to finalize the graphics (I've done them all so far so it's not that pretty right now   ).

I hope there is some interest for something like this. I know I've been wanting something like this for some time but it will be cool to hear what other people think.

Current Requirements:
Android 4.0+ 10 inch tablet
Windows 8, 7, vista, XP
Flight Simulator X

Looks very nice, always great to see more Android apps!  Once it's done though you'll have to change to  "IKnowWhereIamAtAllTimes"

Looks great - I've paid for a couple of Android flight tracking apps, and they never quite did it for me. One of the problems was not being able to use the normal android gestures and movements, which you've solved with your map view mode. I love the ability to instantly switch between map types.

Great piece of work. How long before release?

Thanks, That was one of the things that bothered me about the other apps as well. I wanted to be able to build my own flight routes on the fly which is the current feature I'm working to finish implementing. I may release it without support for FSX flight plans since I can build my own in the app.

I'll hopefully be releasing it in the next couple of weeks. I'm a new dad and my coding time has significantly decreased but I'm doing my best to get it released.

It doesn't look like there is much interest in an app like this. Not sure if I'll bother releasing it or not yet. On several forums this is the only forum I've received response on and I can't even attach the binaries here if I wanted to release it.

Anyway, here's the latest update. I've changed around the UI a bit to make it easier for me to add features. Also added an option to map most large airports in the world. ~700 or so I have in my database right now. You can also toggle between waypoints that you have added and clicking on an airport automatically adds it to the waypoint list.

Thanks to those that are watching. I've gotten no responses on beta testers so I don't even have anyone to help me release it. If anyone is interested please pm me.

Looks like a useful app , I would be interested & I know st least 2 others that would probably make use of it , I know nothing about coding though unfortunately.

I'm happy to beta test, I don't have great tech skills, but I guess you just need to know if it works OK?

Shame there's not more interest, but there are so many postings on Avsim, it can be difficult to find the time to keep up...

Eugene

Hi,

You did a tremendous  job on this app.... really love it.  If you need a new beta tester please PM me.

Thanks to those interested in helping test! You all should be getting an initial PM from me soon.

I would look at doing an iOS version but I don't think this would be a high grossing application and I don't have the funds to buy a Macbook Pro with development tools on it :) It'll likely stay an Android only application :)

This looks really good. Just bought a Nexus 10 and this just the sort of app that would make FSX tracking great. I think you will find there will be many people moving into android tablets this year so don't be discouraged if there seems to be little interest now that will change for sure.. Can't wait to give it a go....

FlightMap has been released to my first beta tester. I still would like one or two more that have a 10 inch android tablet. If you do please let me know via PM if you'd like to test.

The software is getting pretty solid. Hopefully the first tester has an easy go of everything.

Here's a couple screens of the current view. I'm now working to pull the local information out of Flight Simulator so I can get nearest airport information and stuff. Trying to make it easier to find stuff.

This looks like an awseome Android App ! will it work on a 7 inch tablet ?

Craig

Yeh, I would be interested in getting that for my Google Nexus 7 :)

Right now the app is targeting 10 inch tablets as that is what I own. I don't own a 7 inch tablet to test with but I can simulate it. When I get the current feature set completed I plan on attempting a 7 inch version and will need testers for that.

And thank you so much to all of the people that have offered to beta test. I have enough testers now so I won't be taking any more new ones. If all goes well hopefully I'll have the software available on the market soon. I'll keep this thread updated.
