March 22, 201313 yr http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-21901540 A Frenchman has been charged with impersonating a pilot after he was found in the cockpit of a plane due to take off in Philadelphia, police say. Philippe Jernnard, from La Rochelle, France, was wearing a shirt with an Air France logo and a blazer with epaulets. What was he thinking? I would be afraid if the real pilots started to talk shop and I didn't know the answer. \Robert Hamlich/

March 25, 201313 yr I always wear my flight uniform when I fly as passenger it's not illegal. But it's ridiculous to carry and show a fake Air France crew identification card, that's a crime. March 25, 201313 yr Commercial Member Even if you are dead heading with your own airline you have to pre arrange a jump seat. Was worse pre 9/11 because every F/O and Capt was trying to get there wife/son/daughter on a jump seat when the flight was full. So this dude thought he could stoll in, plant himself on a jumpseat with a foreign airline and say "Hey, I'm an AF 747 pilot, look I have have some epaultes!". If he had half a brain he would be dangerous... Rob Prest
March 25, 201313 yr Indeed today, situation is much better because there are no waiting line for jump seat, most of passengers are too frightened even to ask, and epaulets indeed rise your chances to get in, even my 1 stripe one. Yes, you can see people laugh at 1 stripe, but I do not really care. Lj. March 26, 201313 yr I got a ride in a jump seat on an MD-80 back in the 90's. A very memorable and exciting experience. It made me wish that I was a pilot even more.
March 26, 201313 yr Probably trying to hitch a free ride! The news article I read said he had a ticket for the flight. They showed a picture of him, too. It reminded me very much of the classic Nick Nolte police mug shot.
