CLS working on update for 747-200/300

Featured Replies

My understanding is that this one is made for FSX rather than an FS9 rehash( I could be wrong, but I hope not).

Also the VC on this is far more workable than the original where a lot of the switches were only available from the 2D panel.

And I believe the Flight Engineers panel is now accessible via the VC.

Time will tell, hope for more details soon.

I wish they would update their A300/310 series... In comparison the current CLS 744 is outstanding compared to what they produced for the A300/310. We have freeware offerings with better looking VC's than that effort. Sadly nothing for the A300/310 though...

FS2020

Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

I'm put off by their 'we're not going to improve systems because that would be too much work' attitude. I know that they're known for their 'lite' approach, but really it's a worrying level of 'meh, we don't care' about their product being the best it could be.

I'm sure another classic 747 will come along some day, until then I'll stick with the moderately disappointing v1 CLS that I regret buying, if I ever need to fly a classic.

There are no differences between the 200 and 300 cockpit. Each carrier had its own layout though.

So its the 747-100 then that I am after with more challenging complete steam gauges. I'll pass on this product, and like Nikkia, wait for a true, high quality classic 747 in FSX

Do you mean the fact that the -100 had the regular round dials for the engine parameters, whereas the -200/-300 had ribbons (still steam guages, mind you) ?

I suspect the -SP had dials too...

The gauges and INS are absent in the VC from what I can tell.  FMC wasn't in early 747s I don't think.

Yes, no fmc in the classics they're all added after.

Disappointing they're not doing any thing with the systems. I guess the bet chance we have for a 747 classic with a degree of systems is captain sim. And yes I know what I just said but there classic stuff isn't too bad.

Or maybe Enigma or Milviz might tackle another heavy after they've completed their (mostly) steam 737s (Classic and Original respectively)

Fingers crossed they do!

The worst thing about v.1 is it had some deep bugs that would cause a complete sim crash, often after oh about 4 hours of flight, very frustrating to spend all that time and then POOF, no way of telling what happened it just died. So, I'm a LOT more interested in whether this update has fixed internal code rather than done some graphic polishing/dusting off :) I would very much like to have a classic that would be rock solid through a long-haul flight than having it look all "purdy". Oh, and v1 already had a "FMC" if you could call it that, it was just a front end to the built in GPS as far as I could tell, if the new one is only LNAV then it doesn't sound like much more than it already had.

I'm not sure you understand the classic 747's. NONE of them have different cockpits. The cockpit modeled here is a popular retrofit to a classic 747. The -100, -200, and -300 all had the same cockpit layout. Many airlines retrofitted flight management computers, digital tape gauges, etc. into theirs. But from the factory they all were the same.

No, they all had analog gauges. CLS is modeling a more modern version where airlines retrofitted digital into their cockpits.

That's a very good idea!

Well ok then I, and many others I'm sure, want an original factory cockpit then. Not some retrofit more modern makeover.

Any further news on this? Would love a classic 747. The one from CLS and the other from a yet unnamed developer should be released by mid-year so exciting times ahead for lovers of classic iron.
