Anybody using CS 727?

@@JetFueler - No, will not work in fsx. You will be able to fly it, but not all gauges will work. I can't remeber about all systems and switches, but i tried once and remove it from fsx quickly. Interior Graphics are outdated on DF737, but it's still great plane, especially if you like chalenging "old fashion navigation" and high workload during all phases of flight. You must do PF, PM and flight engineer's jobs

I thought that was the case. I flew the DF727 often in FS9 and enjoyed it a lot.  I never saw anything about FSX compatibility so I never payed much attention.  I thought perhaps I had missed something over the years in which someone got it working.  I'd gladly switch back to the DF model, outdated VC and all.  At least it would track a VOR when selected on the AP unlike the CS model.

Hi, if you go to captainsim.com and click Media menu, scroll down to Community then select "727 general" icon, "Mods and tweaks" is a sticky. Keep in mind that these are user tweaks and mods.

FS9 version 1.5 sounds about right. Long have not used it so maybe someone can advice. Also I'm not sure if there is an FS9 version of the aircraft.

I may reinstall this add-on if the mods improve the FDE. The overall look of the CS 727 was great for it's day (already own the DF version).

Not to be a nuisance.... but that is the FSX forum...

Is the model tweak also valid for FS9?

Sorry I should had say in my last post, I don't think there is a CS FS9 version of the aircraft. Its fsx only.

Dream fleet did have an FSX version in the pipeline but god knows the status of that now.

Wow. This is when this FSX/FS9 crap get's really frustrating... The original CS727 was for FS9. If we're still on the same page, the person who's used the tweaks for the 'FS9 CS727' that came out back in 2004/5 please let us know if they worked. I'll go look to see if I find the tweaks myself.

Again this is the FS9 forum with no concern for FSX add-ons. If we mention an add-on it's for FS9 not the FSX version...

Here is the solution for you, i remember this bugg well: http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic20345.html

Ha ha!  That's it! ^_^   I still haven't flown it yet, but took some time to take in the visuals.  The VC and exeternal models look amazing.  Even though the VC is not high res. it has that really nice vintage and worn out look.  I can't believe it's an old add on.  It really looks up to date for me.

I tried spooling up the engines and the sound is also fantastic.  So I'm going to hold off on buying the Turbine Sound Studios sound pack for now.

I've found the most important things so far but one thing I haven't been able to find is the vertical speed adjustment wheel.  I'm gonna do a quick glance at the tutorial before I fly this plane.  Can't wait to try it out after I finish all my house work.

Thanks again.

I agree, not very "handy", although the posters had good intentions.

Oh my!  This is a VERY challenging plane to fly.  I did a practice flight from KLAX to KLAS last night and I was sweating throughout the whole flight  .

I finally figured out how to use the primitive autopilot system.  What a challenge with the a/p trim!  ATC kept telling me to expedite this and that because I was having a hard time keeping up lol.

Overall, I'm really enjoying this.  It's going to take a lot of time to fly this perfectly and I like that.  I start with engines running by picking the "ready for taxi" state in the configuration.

Just a question to you guys using the DF.  I get rudder problems and issues with panel states if I don't pick the aircraft while in the default Cessna KSEA flight.

My rudder was acting all funky when I started it without loading the default flight first.  I finally saw the section in the manual about this and just need some clarification.

-If I want to do a flight, first I use the configuration manager and set my aircraft panel state and passenger load.

-I save that and open up FS9.

-I load the default Cessna flight at KSEA.

-When I'm inside the Cessna at KSEA, I open the drop down menu, scroll to "aircraft" and change it to the DF 727.

-Then, when I'm in the 727, I use the drop down menu again and click on "Flight Planner" from the drop down menu bar.

-I make my flight plan from there by picking a new departure and arrival airports and do the flight.

Is this the proper way to do it?  I ask because the manual is not very clear on it or I'm having a little difficulty understanding it.

Nature Boy

Everything is ok like you described, but you don't need to really make a flightplan from fsx menu, unless you need it for ATC. It's enough to go to departure airport. But no harm done doing that.

I assume that you are using vor to vor navigation. Try sometime to create realistic  flightplan http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/ or with FSBuild or VRoute - with last two you can send flightplan to the fs9 and payware addons. And after that, try to use radio navigation to stay on waypoints. That's really challenging! :))

For most of payware aircrafts, you need to load default flight with default cessna first, or you are risking to have problems. You don't need to load default flight with some payware like PMDG MD11, and that is becouse when PMDG is selected - flightsim is reloaded in the right way.

For default ATC and some ATC addons, after you create/load flight in fs9 - you need to save a flight from fs9 menu. Othervise, you can fly MD11 and ATC may call you Cessna 2546... :))

Slightly different approach here.

- Start the standard flight (Cessna at KSEA). After it has loaded, exit FS2004.

- Start FS2004 new, go into the "create a flight" menu. Choose your B727, your preferred location, time, wheather... you can save this flight, but you must not declare it as new standard flight.

- Now you can start FS2004 whenever you want and choose this flight from the very beginning. I had never problems doing so. I only have problems (CTD with panel.dll) when I do a flight and save it at the end. By the way, I use the "cold and dark" presetting. More switches, more fun!

The rudder problem seems to be a known issue of the yaw damper. I assume that it is activated in "ready for taxi" mode. Are these problems going away when you switch the yaw damper off?

Regarding flight planning, I use FS Commander. I can load the created flight plan via the flight planner menue in FS2004. I can adjust my fuel from the FS2004 menue. But I never adjust load and weight via the menue, because this will cause a CTD of my sim. I have to use the config manager exclusively for this purpose.

I warmly recommend the CIVA INS. Look at these threads:

http://forum.avsim.net/topic/399111-how-do-you-calculate-vspeedvref-in-dreamfleet-727/

and

http://forum.avsim.net/topic/395409-boeing-727-handling-and-behaviour-question/

Using the CIVA will make your preflight procedures lasting longer than short flights, but again - it's the pure fun and more realism of course.

Have fun!

Hi Dillon, although you are absolutely correct. I will step in here and point out that I recently had some problems with Zeljko. After some impatience with him and some help from Harald I came to the understanding that Zeljko is trying to help but his English gets in the way sometimes. English is not his first or even second language. It is not a Zeljko problem, it is a language problem.

Best regards to all,

Mel

With the CS 727,make sure you install the Micheal 2 mod you'll find on the CS forum. That will bring it all together for you and the plane will follow RL tables very accurately and will behave very realistically. Also, unless you have accelerator rather Sp2, the AP will never work completely right ( porpoising when ascending or decending). So many fundamentals CS should have fixed but didn't ( what a surprize). Fortuneately the community stepped forward and did it. A sweet one to fly if you get through all the patches and mod's. Good luck.

Zeljko,

Thanks for the info.  I will consider the flight planner in the future.  At the moment I'm perfectly happy with the default flight plan.  I'm doing vor to vor with it.

Yeah, I use ATC, that's why I have to create a flight plan within FS9.  I'm still a newb and learning slowly.  Just looking at approach charts make my head spin lol.

And thanks for the explanation on loading the default flight.

Harald,

Thanks.  I should save the flight like you suggested because I still need a lot of practice and it's less work to have it saved and just load it up next time I want to fly.

The switches are fun like you mentioned, but at this moment I want to get flying, that's why I use ready for taxi.

what I'm doing is, while in cruise, I open the different panels and study them so I have a good idea of where everything is.  That way, when I'm ready for cold and dark, the instructions can be followed easily and more efficiently.

The rudder problem I get when I don't start with default flight is that it would shake violently from side to side.  Sometimes only a few degrees and sometimes a lot more than a few.  And if I input full rudder right for example, the rudder would only rotate no more than 5 degrees but the nose gear work fine.

I don't think the yaw dampers are on in taxi mode.  Because I used the same state after loading the default cessna and no rudder problem.

Thanks for the link on the INS.  I just learned vor recently and I'm enjoying it quite a bit.  I will try the INS when I'm a little better with the 727.

My only complaint would be the up/down trim for the a/p.  I wish they allowed us to assign buttons for it, so I don't have to go through the awkward position of looking/adjusting the trim and the vertical speed indicator at the same time.  Not really a big deal as I usually find ways to be more efficient once I get used to a new add on plane.

Finally, thanks for the CS 727 Mod review.  I'll reinstall this bird and see how it goes...  :drinks:
