April 28, 201313 yr debt for a few hundred thousand dollars Your GOOD! I'm well into the 6 figures. They call the fire brigade before I start engines.
April 28, 201313 yr Hi If i should by one of theese right now, which one would you recommend, and why? Just to be clear, i talk about PMDG or Majestic... both . just for the hell of our hobby and to suport developers like this that keep flight siming alive... just my 02..... April 28, 201313 yr Like I landed great.. Moved condition levers back to taxi on landing roll at 50 knots and BOOM. That's odd. Our rigs are very similar and I've never had a problem with that myself. I do have null zones a hair above the detent to all the way inside the detent' so when I move them to idle they are at beta and the beta lights are on. I use the virtual buttton below the detent for reverse and send the 'engine idle' command when I move them back into the detent. Someone correct me if the real plane self destructs so easily... I'd really like to know that. There seem to be vast opportunities to destroy this airplane by an accidental bump or just a little too much handle movement. I often wonder if it's overdone. On the other hand, part of me wonders if that's the reason the E120 or other planes were successful in fending it off here in the US...maintenance. I don't have an E120 to compare it to so dunno. Anyone with the B1900 like to chime in? Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. A great landing is when you can reuse it." i9 64GB RAM, GTX-5090

April 29, 201313 yr Like I landed great.. Moved condition levers back to taxi on landing roll at 50 knots and BOOM.Yes I know 50 is not taxi speed but still my throttle was on idle so it seemed not at all realistic. Are you talking about the the JS4100 or the Q400? If the Q400, the coniditon levers remains at maximum for taxi, which will result in 660 RPM.If the JS4100, not sure why it is doing that. You have to be careful taking those engines out of the start locks if you're using the "F2" to get reverse thrust. The engines can quickly go to maximum reverse thrust in that case, which with a stationary aircraft, cools the engine very poorly. Still, shouldn't be an issue on the roll out. Eric Szczesniak
April 29, 201313 yr If the JS4100, not sure why it is doing that. He was talking about the J41. He was landing so I'm pretty sure it wasn't a start lock thing. To me, perhaps, somehow as he was pulling them back his throttle was going up? That would have fried them. Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. April 29, 201313 yr Yes the J41...i followed every word in the tutorial even the painstaking recommendations to use keyboard shortcuts to operate primary flight controls one notch at a time (if thats not an admittance of a problem i dont know what is) and also used mouse to move cond levers down 1% at a time (tutorial recommends that setting climb power before adjusting throttle) ...whole flight from cold dark to landing went great i felt good put the tablet down and did the following (habit learned from ngx/md11 and 747 for better or worse) flare at 30/20 ch throttle to idle land firm no balloon press F2 until reversers bought speed down to 60 (left condition levers on full for approach/ landing as they should be?) applied manual brake (digital button) moved throttle forward about 20% to shut off reversers spoilers lever full forwards condition levers down to idle (or whatever bottom of range on my ch is calibrated at...full range i believe) then heard the loud whine and engines died so couldnt move... ext camera confirmed fires on both engines havent flown it since...turned flres off in setup in annoyance but i prefer to fly 'real' so it put me off although sometimes 'real' in a sim can be vastly exaggerated to show off the 'advanced system programming' in a plane which would render it uncertifiable in real life im sure ..i reckon if someone made a special throttle hardware system designed just for this plane it would be fine but not enough interest in an older model.. im going to do another flight now though ...but im not using the darn mouse and ctrl shift f4 or whatever..if it wants to blow up with my very subtle ch movements (learned from all those ngx manual landings!) im not going to fly it again...i do recognize it might be my setup but why is a commercial aircraft so dangerous to passenger safety from minor pilot error than the semi commercial turbine duke? a plane i can fly blind from feel and sound alone and never feel unsafe flying... April 29, 201313 yr just did LOWS to LOWI with the J41. Started engines running not C/D (never do that normally just wanted get over this problem first) ..on a different issue I always seem to have with a/p alt commands in this plane..set cruise as 21000 and initial alt as 10000 ...during climbout pressed alt/sel and nav..plane followed fms route and leveled off nicely at 10k... then changed alt setting to 21000 and manually climbed again but this time plane would descend when I pressed alt/sel even though both cruise and vnav/alt settings were at 21000 ..at this time I lost so much time reset all to 15000..still no joy so flew my plane manually to 15000 by which time I was on approach so full flaps and gear for descent..very low final angle but plane landed fine and no fires....here are my observations: my ch mixture axis set to cond levers appears to only recognize full forward middle and full off (?!) so any slight reduction would suddenly drop cond levers to 50% or even taxi in flight... ..so I left them at full and used the mouse to touch them down to 95% for my 1 mile cruise and descent ..all time making very sure throttle power was always 'below' cond lever settings the EGT guage was my friend it went over several times but I got it back fast.. ..as for landing did same procedure as normal EXCEPT this time after advancing throttles to 25% position to cut out reversers the reversers cut out but the engine power was raging at 110% even with throttles at that low setting...so THIS time I reduced throttles all the way back to idle THEN cut condition levers to taxi...no beeps no fires this doesn't seem realistic as with all the other planes I land and cut out reversers with throttle at 25% I leave it there as its ideal for taxiing to the nearest taxiway rather than coming to an almost dead stop them spooling up the engines again ..but anyway no problems this time although I just remembered dangit I turned fires off yesterday...argggh! have to try this again now with fires on but a short flight see if it behaves as regards the ch yoke axis 3 only having 3 settings (detents?) in al other planes it functions analog as youd expect including the turbine duke...will try using axis 2 (wasted on flaps here really) for condition levers and axis 3 for flaps...cos after all no one blew a plane up with the wrong flap setting...well not till they hit the ground too fast or too slow anyway! Russell Gough SE London
April 29, 201313 yr just did LOWI to LIPB assigned axis 2 to cond levers and this time they were manageable to the degree...no problems at all...assigned axis 3 to flaps which would either be on none or full so switched it to reversers instead (which didn't work on landing...maybe have to cut the throttles some other way..sigh) LOATHE the A/P on this plane for way too many reasons to list..but mainly selecting nav when on FMS course plane banks hard to opposite direction...so used HDG mode..except when HDG mode is selected I cant control altitude..any movement of yoke or trim then a/p disconnects...this is with ALT or alt/sel NOT selected...guess if you have ap mode selected you cant change pitch with just HDG selected? this made the descent a royal pita as I had hdg mode selected for route and tried match vnav with trim but INSTANT A/P disconnect that way and no pitch control allowed...but at 160 knots who needs an AP anyway? love my manual flying once I I gave up entirely on the AP the flight was a joy...plane is superb to fly manually using the FMS as a routing tool...descent easy just slow down to 160kts apply flaps 9 then descend at 180 to final then full flaps/gear plane slows to 135 in a few miles....despite being a remote airfield 4000ft runway no nav aids and me sweating on how the new assignments would work it went like a dream... so my conclusion is I know love the plane as my go to manual pax plane....look forward to doing some vor to vor and ils landings too...in fact im going for another flight now although my AXE purchased yesterday was my original plane.... I reckon my exploding engines problem was entirely a config issue with the ch yoke making such massive unexpected changes to settings I had no chance to correct before the smoke came pouring out.. "LOATHE the A/P on this plane for way too many reasons to list..but mainly selecting nav when on FMS course plane banks hard to opposite direction...so used HDG mode..except" You have to make sure that the next waypoint is selected and activated or it will bank away. Before taking off select next waypoint and the rest will follow on auto. ZORAN

Before taking off select next waypoint and the rest will follow on auto. What he said. You can do it after takeoff too...just do it before you click NAV. It's in the tutorial too if I remember. I would definitely recommend carefully configuring both the yoke and throttles in FSUIPC using send to calibration. I created a small null zone in the center of my yoke to keep the AP from disconnecting when I engage it. All the calibration took me a few times to get it right but no problems since I do have a problem with the V/S and Alt Sel sometimes I'm hoping you guys can help me sort out. I am cruising and then set a new altitude and then dial down V/S. A lot of times this happens at TD. ALT light goes off and I select AlTSel. Then the airplane trims itself down and nosedives at 3000+ FPM and I have to grab the controls get it off the A/P and fly it manually on my rate of descent. Usually it does this 2 or 3 times before I get it settled down and get it trimmed back up and back on A/P. Anybody else see this? "bug altitude xxxx" "set vertical speed up xxxx" the instrument panel can be a bit tricky without FS2c. I had similar problems with climb and descent going berserk when flying manual so I let the FO handle it now. ZORAN
April 29, 201313 yr "bug altitude xxxx""set vertical speed up xxxx" That's what I'm doing so I think it's not right. My thought this morning (not at my sim so I can't check) is that I need to 1) diial the alt bug, 2) press altsel and THEN press V/S and dial down the FPM...in that order. At least that's what I'm planning to try next. Gregg Seipp "A good landing is when you can walk away from the airplane. A great landing is when you can reuse it." i9 64GB RAM, GTX-5090
April 29, 201313 yr Another option is select V/S, set as 0, dial up the desired alt and alt sel, then ease the V/S down. Might work. Mike Mike Dryden

I always do that BEFORE takeoff...thought it would track the waypoints so when I selected nav it would be ok...now I will check before selecting nav that the next waypoint is selected in the NAV screen...looked like it was but will check now... I actually just finished with a LSGS to LSGG final flight and the NAV worked ok... Yes i do go to NAV page and line select the first entry then ENTER twice to get a TO nav confirm before every flight....will check its still there in flight I mistakenly assumed as I passed waypoints they would 'move on' in the FMS..maybe they dont? and yes i have same problem with altitude changes and im not buying an add on to fix them! my final flight LSGS to LSGG was sweet last night...only time the altitude hold works for me is the FIRST time i use it..so i set it for 21000 cruise and got heading bug and alt to hold my cruise very nicely then took over manual for descent cos my passengers tend to throw up when i try make automated ALT changes at TOD.... ..sorry this appears to be two posts i thought i posted first one at 4am this morning but it seemed to have auto saved instead sorry for repetition Russell Gough SE London
