Split-Scimitar Winglet Modeling on the NGX?

Featured Replies

I believe PMDG should just add the external part as the performance and fuel use vary only minimally. They provided the 747-8i/f using only the external model, pending V2 when performance data would be readily available. I feel like this is a similar situation, where performance data isn't available easily so just the external modelling would be warrant.

:excl: pretty soon most -800 will have it so they should do it and get it out of the way so that they could look at the 737MAX in the future

  • We'll see but it would take a change to the flight model too - the whole point of these things is that they add additional fuel savings over the normal winglets.

Why just on the -800? All aircraft will have it and it's not like it's a different size based on what aircraft it's on. It's the same size so it should be easy to add it. (I can't model one myself, so I hesitate to say it's easy).

Also, most -800s have it? Sure, at Southwest Airlines, that would be acceptable. There are far more 737-800s in the world that don't have this equipment than the ones that do!

Looking at recent releases, I think it's only fair to say PMDG seriously stepped their game up, since the time of the 747-400X. Hence, I don't see them doing the APB winglets without proper performance data. When the NGX was announced an released, they were very proud of the difference between the models with and without winglets. I don't think a visual model only is going to be something they have interest in.

However, by the time they've completed everything on their planning now, who knows, maybe performance data is readily available to them.

I almost never look at the outside of my plane. Maybe only when i'm on ramp, to see how well i parked  :P So i don't really care about new winglets unless they have some actual impact on the flight model and on the fuel economy. That takes ages to do, even when you have the data you need. I'd rather get SP2 sooner than silly winglets which have no practical use and i never see them anyways.

Didn't I post in this topic yesterday?

If you did, then maybe it's because you haven't included your full name in your signature? If that is the reason, then I can see an even worse transgressor above who is likely to have his posts removed

they need an SP2 really badly with bugs and stuff they should fix

I'm curious... Aside from the cockpit dimensions being off, and we've been given a good reason WHY they're off, what other "bad bugs" are you having problems with? (Not that this topic concerns that stuff, but I am actually curious about it.)

We need hi-def rivets! People are having too hard a time counting them.

How come PMDG would have to remodel the whole plane instead of just adding a option in the FMC to have the on or off?

If you'd care to read, or even glance through, the entire topic, you would have known why. :)

I would love this kind of Winglets as an option to the excisting model :)

I would also love a BBJ/ER expansion as well :)

It is pr now possible to just change some fuel capacity on the -700WL and -800WL to the values that are on a BBJ/BBJ2 and you have a BBJ/BBJ2 plane :)

I have done it and it works pretty well, did go SXM-ZRH direct with VP-BRT with BBJ config and I landed with alot of fuel left to spare :)

Again: Read the topic, and you'll see why it's not as simple as just changing some values in a config file. It may work, but it's not correct. That mantra works for the Split Scimitar winglets, and it work for the extra fuel capacity (and modified systems) for the BBJ.

Honestly I have ridden on a 900ER with schematars and the dynamics are a lot different I was thinking of a small schimatar model that costs $20 and I was also thinking the 900ER could be released as $40

It amuses me that so many PMDG users want the absolute utmost realism with respect to systems, flight dynamics and visuals in their aircraft, and yet many seemingly are quite happy to get some scimitar winglets stuck on the end of the visual model without the realistic fuel flow and flight dynamics differences that this would entail.
