Best Ground Operations Add-on?

Featured Replies

As part of a new video tutorial set for the Majestic Q400 I'm working on with a Dash 8 pilot from 'Europe's biggest Q400 operator' ;), we'll be releasing a new GSX sound set tailored specifically for the Dash, recorded by a real push back guy. Doesn't get more real than that!

Cool!

'Europes biggest Q400 operator' ......... just got to be FlyBE?

Especially up there in N E England, where they have a few Q400s based at Newcastle eh?

Is there a purpose for GSX? I mean if you have this add-on, does it really add another level of realism to ground operations before take off? I'm assuming this is only useful for those who fly commercial planes.

Or is this add-on purely for aesthetics and serves no real purpose?

You are right that its mainly for the tubes.

I love the extra immersion it brings.

Why don't you jump on YouTube and check it out.

I have both. GSX for my default and fsdt airports. AES for the payware airports with jetways that don't work with GSX. Download the demo and see how you feel. If you have to pick one or the other then gsx since you get max coverage that way.

GSX.....Works everywhere. One time buy, not credit stuff....just install, and use. Plus, models look way better, and at least on my system, I don't notice a FPS hit at all.

I heard that GSX is very hard on FPS, even comparing to AES. I just can't believe that it has no impact on fps.

Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

I couldn't possibly say Dave ;)

Let's just a few hours sat in front of FSX with a real Q400 jockey looking over my shoulder showed JUST how much I didn't know...

Give us a month or so and all will be revealed.

Cool

Not at all.  Trust me, I wouldn't use it, if it were.  Fluidity & smoothness are priority #1 in this hobby for me.   In most locations I see no impact whatsoever.  If I am in a complex airport add-on (like say UK2000 or an Aerosoft airport), I may see around 2 FPS drop, once all the ground trucks, crew, walking dispatchers, etc, are in place.

It is definitely not "very hard on frame rates".     My system is very average too.

In DX10 I have about 20-25% fps drop on final with default airport vehicles on medium. So you want to tell me that GSX is way more FPS friendly over default vehicles? That's ironic but very possible considering FSX default models and stuff.

I have bought the Hawaiian Airports from FSDreamteam, from my understanding is that GSX is included with their airports and works 100%. So I can test it out, but is it a demo or a fully working copy?

Also I have my FSX setting for Airport Ground Traffic set to 0%, will GSX still work?

I use both and like them both. You can configure them to work together.

Well I don't use DX10, but the default ground vehicles move all over the airport don't they? ..... the vehicles and crew in GSX are always close to the aircraft model, so are more 'localized' (with the exception of the Follow-Me car, but even that spawns fairly close to your aircraft).     ....Or maybe it is just better optimized models.

I have no reason to convince you though - go for it if you fancy it - or leave it, if you don't believe it's frame rate friendly.

You stated that you'd heard that "GSX is very hard on frames" and I had to chip in, because that's so not the case, and I'm sure other GSX users would agree on that.

GSX - but get the replacement voices from our good friend Q400 Flyer above! The voices that ship with it aren't that great.

Where can we get replacement voices?

I just tested GSX demo on EDDM, and I must say it's brilliant! You guys are right, no fps hit at all. Since my home airport in FSX is EDDM, I will enjoy ground services there, and I will try to get over empty other airports until I buy GSX.

By the way, I tested it on default CRJ, and I stupidly requested a followme car to the gate with a jetway, and I expected a bus for boarding, haha. I bet when I choose gate with a jetway GSX will not send a bus or minibus?

Also, I'm using FSCaptain, and now I'm confused which push back option to use, GSX or FSCaptain's, or both, or eeerrrrrr...?
Also I must find the way to kill boarding sounds from GSX since I did a soundset for FSCaptain and it has better sounds generally.

Another big thumbs way up for GSX, and no, I've noticed no impact on fps either.

He he.  It's great you tried it and like it.  As Q400 Flyer says, there is no FPS impact.  I've been using GSX for a long time and never seen any drop in frames.

In answer to your question regards the bus coming at gates with jetways.  GSX is highly configurable.  You just need to customise the gate through the GSX menu system that's located within FSX.  Just deselect the bus in the option screen for the gate you're parked at.  Next time you park at that gate, GSX will remember.
