MSE Oregon - 3D objects project

Featured Replies

1mikel, seems easy from your description, where do you get these programs to modify and add objects to existing scenery? The files don't need to be compressed/uncompressed when working with .bgl files? And does it include a library of autogen objects that you can choose from? Would love to know more about this and spruce up some of my scenery.

Speaking of MSE photoreal, are any of you using regular 7200 RPM HDD to store your states?  I've been using either SSD or WD Velocerapters and they are gettin' full.  Think I may pick up a few more states (Idaho, Oregon, Wyoming maybe Illinois or something),  so I'm debating grabbing a couple of 3TB Toshiba HDD on sale or splurge for a 500GB SSD.

Those using SATA HDD's are you happy with the load times?  Or wish you had a SSD?

thx,

The SDK has lots of info and tools including the autogen annotator. Instant scenery for placing objects you can get at Flight1. With instant scenery you have access to placing any and all of these objects http://lc0277.gratisim.fr/sceneobjects/

I use 7600 RPM Western Digital Caviar Black drives for my photo scenery.  In flight, I have no problems that I would relate to drive speeds.  I'm sure my initial load for FSX could be reduced if everything were on SSDs, but right now I don't think the bang for the buck just to speed up initial load time warrants the expenditure that would be required for the kind of space large amounts of photo require.  Would rather put that money elsewhere, at least for now.

Wow, you can add all those objects to your scenery? So you're telling me if I get the autogen annotator program I will be able to easily open up a .bgl file, and place any object from that library on top of the photo scenery or regular tiles and just simply save the file, and I'll be able to see those objects the next time I fly over that area?

If that's so I plan to work on The Big Island of Hawaii and add some wind farms, the observatories on the summit of Mauna Kea, more Palm trees, etc.

Is there any other program I need in order to do this?

I am running MSE off 7200RPM drives for storage capacity. In fact, i have got some states on 5400RPM "Green" drives too. Sure the initial load times are slower than from SSD, but there is NO effect once the scenery has initially loaded and you are flying. The only benefit you get from SSD with anything flight related is fast initial load times. Once it is all loaded into system memory, your drive read/write speed becomes irrelevant.

Correct. The best result you can get is by redirecting that saved $$ to improve your CPU speed via a faster CPU or overclocking what you already have... spending that extra you saved on a decent air or water cooler to achieve this. That will give you a much larger benefit in FSX, and will work for ANYTHING you add to it, or fly in it etc.

I feel your excitement, but a couple of things. You have 2 types of objects, autogen and ,MDL objects. Some of the autogen objects are available to be placed like MDL objects, but most are not. With the annotator, you can place autogen which means many generic type buildings and all types of trees (see the autogen tab at that site for a list)

. With a program like Instant scenery from Flight1, you can place all those items you see at that website, PLUS any scenery objects from any active scenery that uses the library system (for personal use of course)

Autogen is used mostly for performance reasons and for lots of objects with large areas..Instant scenery is more for specific items and custom objects.

Great idea.  I've spent some time in adding scenery to various BlueSkyScenery locations.  I've often wondered just how many people were doing the same thing - seems a shame to duplicate work.

Does .agn files created with MS scenery work for BlueSkyScenery?  Obviously any .bgl files created by Instant Scenery would work, regardless of the photo scenery used.

This is instant scenery and photo-real like the combo so far, but all need to find houses or create some. Its in Norwood Young America MN adding trees around gravel runway makes for close calls with the trees.

If someone did this with Oregon or California be buying it all day long.

For my project, I am still in two minds as to whether to continue adding the trees, shrubbery and some buildings, as objectsm using Instant Scenery, or whether to scrub the work so far, start again, and learn to use the autogen annotator, and do it (mainly as trees),as autogen.

Mmmm, decisions decisions!

@ gizmo - that's looking great!

Gizmo that looks very nice! I want to add some wind farms and obsevatories in Hawaii, does anyone know what file i will need to edit?

captain420 you'll be creating your own BGL files with the scenery objects through Instant Scenery or Whisplacer or similar tool. No need to edit any existing files. Just place the BGL in any scenery folder after you plop the objects.

Gaiiden I see, so in order to do this I will need to download the autogen annotator and buy the flight1 instant scenery app? I have FSX acceleration, so I'm not sure where to get the annotator app from.

Maybe if you searched a little, rather than post so much... B)

You would find a file in the library that already adds the wind farms to Hawai'i. A-loha!
