FTX Global, is it worth it?

Featured Replies

I can see where there are users that live in dry/desert climates, that would not find FSX-G an acceptable product at this time. I just took a flight out of Tucson, Arizona, and the entire desert had a pall of 'green' where there should be white/brown/grey sand and desert scape.  GEX did a superb job of the more arid climes, and so ORBX needs sooner-than-later, to address this pall-green-in-everything/everywhere, with their OpenLC's.  If those LC's don't address this...than major points from the accolades thus far lavished upon FSX-G, must be adjusted for this glaring flaw.

I can see why some are so irate!  If you live in a green/summer clime...than fabulous, but Arizona?  C'mon....ORBX can do better than this!

My 16 cents...

Mitch

V1.1 is due out by months end. Working on fix for SW US, but may not be 100% complete by 1.1.

That's paraphrasing JV from a couple of days ago. I'd link if I knew how on an ipad. The US fix is not the complete US LC, so hopefully the LC will settle it.

Let us hope so...

Thanks Mitch I am definitely going to hold off on FTXG after hearing this.

Hello, Noel;

Noel, to be fair, FSX-G looks fantastic anywhere there would be a green, lush, summer, and/or tropical, but it has a problem with dry, arid, and/or outright desert. I lived for many years in Phoenix, Arizona, and would not at this time, be a 'happy camper' if you wanted to fly around parts familiar. But having said that...I don't think that I would NOT purchase the product for that reason alone. You get a pretty mean 'rest-of-the-world' outside of arid areas.  This will be fixed, to be sure.  A company that has pretty much rewritten scenery for FSX, will not leave Arizona's Sonora looking like it has pond scum across the state! Not for long, anyway....

BTW, that 'than' should have been; 'then'....typo, and too late to edit it for correction....lol.

Mitch

Just a H-U: The FTXG uninstaller has just been released.

Do you have a link?  I went to their site, but could not find anything on it....

Judge for yourself! I'm currently in flight, enjoying the sunset over Southern Germany

Imagine looking at this in FSX default....*shudder*

Thanks Mitch.  I bought the software but I'm not going to install until this preposterous deficit is remedied!  It's a big planet I know but that's a pretty big chunk of land mass.

This is my first post here since I've bee banned from the official Orbx forum for being overly critical of FTX-Global.

I have to agree with Mitch. The Great American Southwest where I live an fly looks like spilled green-pea soup.

Those who have claimed 'to have flown all over the world and it's great' either have not flown the desert southwest or don't know what a desert is supposed to look like.

Since the uninstaller wasn't available until just now I uninstalled my whole FSX system and started over because the default textures IN THAT PART OF THE WORLD I INHABIT are an order of magnitude better than FTX-Global's. My opinion of FTX-Global would be much different if I flew Europe or the temperate zones of the planet, but I don't

Having said that I do own all the Orbx regions except North Ireland and more than 20 airports and they are great! I fly mostly the North American regions and my own home area of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Utah.

I would not hesitate to purchase more Orbx airports in North America or the upcoming Northern California and later to be released Southern Rockies.

And if Orbx does eventually get the Great American Southwest right I will re-install FTX-Global.

Noel

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

The patch will fix the "green" desert issue...

Where can I find this patch?

I'm holding off on installing FTX-G as I tend to include The Land of Pea Soup frequently in my flight planning and had I known about this in advance I would have saved the $100 and waited to see if this was addressed.

Does anyone know if the have made a statement that they plan to update this pretty large area?  Perhaps they are holding off so as to include a whole new separate payware region, i.e., this was an intentional omission?  Could be I guess.
