August 9, 201312 yr A must have!! B) +! B) I have to disagree on the importance of number of posts though... I can post very stupid and/or biased/subjective things too if I want to!
August 9, 201312 yr And for that one I blame France VFR devs because they are not interested in sending Orbx their autogen files for merging It's not even the autogen files, but the reference to them that they need. Like file names and such. Brent Baker
August 9, 201312 yr Author OK, I bought it yesterday and after a few flights I can say it was definitely worth it. Scenery at many locations is not just so much better looking. Bigger cities look much denser with buildings and roads. Now you can actually distinguish a lot more villages and towns instead of just big cities and countryside with a few houses like in GEX. Night lighting is very impressive as well.As promised by ORBX, there was zero FPS loss, even at night. However, don't enable Road vector lights in FTX Central or otherwise you WILL notice a very significant framerate decrease. Arjen Vandervelde
August 10, 201312 yr Ok all, I'm a little confused with those of you running DX10 versus DX9 and the impact on FTX Global. I'm running DX10. Is there an issue with night textures running DX10? Thanks! Justin Leach
August 10, 201312 yr   So many people who say this is a must have have less than 50 career posts...a little suspicious to me. Just saying.  Like on yelp, I tend to value more the opinions of people who have many posts over many months or years.   I totally disagree. The number of posts on "any" forum has nothing to do with the topic(s). I've been flying Sublogic/MS Flight Simulator since Sublogic's Flight Simulator II (early 1980s), and every version since. And, I can't count how many addons, like scenery, mesh, landclass, and aircraft addons I've had. FTX Global is the best I've seen and, have purchased. Just my opinion, as I think the topic of this thread is suggesting as it's a question waiting for an opinion. Sorry I just joined this forum not too long ago so I don't have "50" or more posts. I usually post when I'm trying to help (my opinion or experience), or receive help. So, the question is, "FTX Global, is it worth it?" And again, my answer is YES!! So, what do you think, is it worth it? Rod.......with less than 50 posts. Rod Beck
August 11, 201312 yr FTX Global looks amazing. I am glad I bought it but I don't know how everyone above says there is NO FPS loss. There certainly was for me. A massive loss due to Autogen. I had to slide my Autogen down to Sparse to combat the FPS loss. Now that being said, even on Sparse Autogen this add-on is mad levels of insanely beautiful. The manual says to start at Normal which I did but I did not like the 20 FPS loss it gave me so I had to go with Sparse. The manual says my rig should be able to handle Extremely Dense but alas, I cannot have that on while running PMDG 737 NGX at the same time. To much damage to the FPS. Nice for screenshots though! If anyone can tell me their secret of how they installed this with 'NO FPS LOSS' I am all ears. Then I tried enabling/disabling some options in FTX Central and came to the conclusion that the "Road vector lights" option causes the FPS loss when enabled. So, in your case I would check if you have this option enabled, and if so, DISABLE it. The other two option can be enabled without any negative influence on performance. So give it a try and report back. Arjen Vandervelde

I'll give it a try and tell you the results. August 12, 201312 yr Has FTXG been updated yet for DX10 or not yet? i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
August 12, 201312 yr Has FTXG been updated yet for DX10 or not yet? The textures themselves already are DX10 compatible, but the night lighting needs a fix and that will come from a guy names Steve who created all DX10 fixes that made DX10 popular. I think it will still be a week or two, three before he releases his addon that may solve the night lighting problem. FTXG will get updates for certain but not for this DX10 problem.

I had to slide my Autogen down to Sparse to combat the FPS loss. ... That's because there is autogen and then there is AUTOGEN. Simplistically, your CPU draws the autogen wireframe and the GPU paints it in. For example, 3D lights are generally simpler and buildings/trees etc. are more complex. Depending on the balance between your CPU and GPU and the complexity/density of the autogen, you could see a performance hit.
August 12, 201312 yr I have to say that I uninstalled GEX and installed FTXG and it is literally worlds better than GEX (no respect to GEX, it was great in its day). I was reluctant to spend for the FTXG but it is exceptional quality and transports FSX into the next dimension. I'm seeing the world for the first time!
