August 16, 201312 yr Will people still be able to purchase DLC via Steam? Or was that directly tied to GFWL? It's a real shame that all the new players won't get to experience the things we have. I'm just glad I didn't spend too much money but still got all I wanted. I feel bad for others though. I think MS may just have a lawsuit on their hands from reading those comments. They aren't refunding any cash spent on points, and instead telling them to buy something with it. That definitely doesn't sound right to me.
August 16, 201312 yr They aren't refunding any cash spent on points, and instead telling them to buy something with it. Use 'em or lose 'em. Do you think MS consulted with their Legal Department before all this?
August 16, 201312 yr I think that webpage is misleading because they make it sound like your unspent points go away. From what I have read your MS points will be converted to real currency credit. The problem is that the GFWL marketplace is not being updated to use real currency so the only place you have to spend that credit is Xbox Live Marketplace, Xbox music\video and the Windows Phone 8 store. It sounds like redeem codes still work so theoretically you will still be able to buy stuff from Steam, but I'm not 100% sure.
August 16, 201312 yr Yeah, from the linked page: Microsoft Points will be retired as part of the next Xbox 360 system update. The next time you initiate a purchase or redeem a Microsoft Points card or code on your console with your Microsoft account, we’ll add an amount of currency equal to or greater than the Marketplace value of your Microsoft Points to your account. You can then use the currency in your Microsoft account to buy a variety of Xbox content from your favorite Xbox stores, and if you have a Windows Phone 8 device, content from the Windows Phone Store. I personally wonder if some of it has to do with Jason Holtman's new job: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2013-08-14-former-steam-boss-lands-at-microsoft
August 16, 201312 yr This game caused me to spend about $400.00 US. Game stuff, New rudder pedals and TrackiR 5 head tracker gear. I still consider it a worthwhile investment, use it all every day. Still, could have been SO much more if given half a chance! Steve
August 16, 201312 yr I personally wonder if some of it has to do with Jason Holtman's new job: http://www.gamesindu...ds-at-microsoft I doubt it. I don't even know if he has started working yet. I believe the change to real currency has been in the pipe for a while now.
August 16, 201312 yr I'm thinking this may be criminal (not supporting content as advertised on their website) Why? You got what you paid for - a free game to begin with and any functioning DLC you subsequently chose to buy. Gerry Howard
August 16, 201312 yr Hi Folks Phasing out of Microsoft Points was announced PRIOR to Flight even being released, (example from Jan 2012). The original announcements had scheduled that to happen during 2012. All you are seeing now is a final alert, that they've actually gotten finally doing so. More details on the Microsoft account transition to local currency. HTH ATBPaul ODG Preview
August 16, 201312 yr Author Yes, they were talking about abandoning MS Points, but there was no word about shutting down all PC games.
August 16, 201312 yr Why? You got what you paid for - a free game to begin with and any functioning DLC you subsequently chose to buy. simply said 'reasonable expectation' I downloaded the game less than 4 months ago and if you look at the Microsoft Flight website today there is NO mention of the fact that all development had stopped - As a major international company I had the reasonable expectation that a game said to be the replacement of FSX would be around for a long time. Also the term "ever-expanding world" would suggest that development WAS ongoing. How useful is my 65 dollars worth of addons, that I might not have bought had I known this, going to be if they do not continue to support the online installer if I need to reinstall (I have already had to do so once & we all upgrade our pc's)

Basically they will only close the shop.
August 17, 201312 yr Unless anybody else knows, hopefully Paul will pop back in and let me (us?) know what the final count for AotD is. I got to 340, but I know I've missed around 10 to 15 or thereabouts.
August 17, 201312 yr [ simply said 'reasonable expectation' No, you said it was criminal. Not meeting even reasonable expectations isn't criminal, and yours aren't reasonable - you got what you paid for. game said to be the replacement of FSX would be around for a long time. Also the term "ever-expanding world" would suggest that development WAS ongoing. Wishful thinking on your part. Microsoft made no commitment about the future - any more than other 3rd party developers do. How useful is my 65 dollars worth of addons, Exactly as useful as the day you got them Gerry Howard

I got to 340, but I know I've missed around 10 to 15 or thereabouts. The count stands at 346 unique aerocaches right now. It seems like there have been more than that, but much of the time was tied up in repeats. They were fun while they lasted. As I said earlier, let's just see what happens going forward. This may or may not signal the end. No one knows that at this point except the suits at MSG. As for the sim remaining usable, there's no question about that. You don't need a connection to MSG or Live to use it. The only need for a connection was to access aerocaches and updates. So basically you can still go out and fly Alaska and Hawaii the same as always. Thank you. August 18, 201312 yr If you check in game or on the Flight site, there is a new aerocache posted. I guess it was still in the pipe when the decision was made to discontinue them. I'll keep checking every couple of days to see if any more show up. If so, I'll post them. Thank you.
