Kyle - what are you doing about winds aloft? Do you enter the data in the cdu or not bother with it. I have heard differences of opinion about this. Some people only bother with entering winds data for cruise altitude as you will be quickly passing through all the lower levels, there's not much point in entering lower level data!

What is your opinion on this.....happy birthday for tuesday by the way

Thanks Kyle, was especially happy to see the ECL non normal in action, btw can you confirm that the ECL will move on to the next normal checklist when the previous normal checklist is completed when you press the checklist button on the efis instead of having to click the normal prompt on the ECL to move on to the next checklist?

Whoa - lots of stuff since I checked last.  First - thanks!

Second - responses:

Sound issues.  Two words: audio compression.  That is all.  Armen also addressed some of the concerns.

Love when I see some absolute random PBD (Place Bearing Distance) at the start of the route which is no-where near the origin. Obvious that ATC has given a direct and the system has generated that new point on the flightplan. It would be nice if FlightAware managed to just get the original AFTN message sent through (Like they are doing with their Australian data feed from Airservices).

Most of the time it's more that they've changed the whole route.  Granted, sometimes the shortcut is so drastic that they do actually change it, but it's all the controller, not the system.  You're definitely looking at post-processing, though.

what are you doing about winds aloft?

I only really enter them on longer routes, and only for the cruise portion.  Climb is pretty short compared to the rest of the flight.  Descent has a practical application of assisting the automagic hit a point at a particular altitude.  On climb, it doesn't really matter if you hit cruise 10nm earlier or 10nm later.

Law of diminishing returns and so on...

I think it does.  Someone posted something like that to the first video just this morning.  I believe it will, but I'll check it when I get home.

can someone from the Dev Team please comment on whether or not the ECLs feature deferred items and timers?

The timers are in there.  I failed a GEN yesterday morning and there are a couple items where you cycle a switch and wait a minute, and it displays the countdown.

Kyle,

Thanks for another great video!

Had a bunch of questions about the FD roll bar deflection:

1) What is the full-scale deflection of the roll bar (all the way over to the 'wing' on the PFD?)?  At he start of the flight, you had a course change of about 30 deg - fairly substantial - but the roll bar was still very close to the center square.  How much of a heading change results in a full-scale deflection?

2) In making that heading change,  the roll bar barely moved to command a roll out on approaching the selected heading.  When the selected heading was overshot by about 7-8 deg, the roll bar barely moved to correct that.

3) In another beta video (don't recall which one or made by whom), the roll bar barely seemed to move with localizer deviation.  If the aircraft was being hand flown based solely on FD cues (not saying this is how it should be flown or anything), these small movements would not be enough to accurately fly the airplane.

Is this above behavior prototypical?  I know the FD on the NGX also behaves in a similar 'lethargic' fashion - I had started a thread on the subject (in 11/2011), but did not get any feedback from PMDG or any RW experts at that time.  While I have no RW expertise, a RW pilot who was flying NGXs at the time did comment that the FD behavior did not seem right.

Any thoughts welcome.

Any thoughts welcome.

As this is only the beta (so things are constantly being improved/fixed), and I don't have specific knowledge with flight directors (actually, one of my most notable accounts of being put in my place in the forum was related to a similar discussion in the 744 subforum), I don't feel properly equipped to answer your questions.

I will say, though, that a 30 degree turn wouldn't quite be considered too significant.  There's a reason 30 degrees is used as a maximum for course intercepts from vectors - it's not too drastic and ends up being a nice shallow turn.

Kyle, about the winds aloft, what will change if you enter them into FMC? and where you enter them? And last question.. Where you get maps with winds aloft? Thanks!  ^_^

Predicted times enroute.

and where you enter them?

LEGS > RTE DATA (or something like that, there are different ways to get there, too - I show it in video #1)

Where you get maps with winds aloft?

Another great video Kyle!! Many thanks indeed.

Best regards,

Robin.

... I don't feel properly equipped to answer your questions.

Fair enough, Kyle, appreciate the prompt response.

If, as a beta tester, you feel there is enough here to warrant some review by the developers/technical experts, it may be worthwhile bringing it to their attention.

Thanks!

Thanks for another top quality video Kyle, really helping with the release anticipation.....

Thx a lot for taking time to do videos. They are full of interesting information :-)

About failures : are there any new features/improvments compared to the NGX ?

I remember a post from PMDG saying they added a multiplier for artificially ageing the plane (sorry, I can't find this post again, I hope I didn't misred this post :-) ).  This multiplier factor already exists in the NGX but speaking about the 777 the gave a list of multiplier "x2 x4, ....". I understood this as an option to choose this ageing factor on the 777. Am I right ?

If you are really quick at hitting the pause button in the video, you might spot something
