Heart pounding takeoff..

Featured Replies

I'm hesitant to jump on the A2A C172 has problems, but I just had the most heart pounding take off in my real or virtual flying career.

C172 at KDPA, set the a bit nose down to compensate for the problems I've had with the nose pitching up during take off.

Nose starts rising on takeoff, applied more pitch down trim, nose keeps rising, speeds keeps dropping, some more trim, airplane starts bobbing.. At this level of trim I should be headed for the grouind, but no.. now going into a stall.

Ease off power, pitch nose down break the stall, now plane is going right.. no left.. no right.. now nose down, now nose up..

At this point the plane was essentially flying itself.. ao I did the humane thing and put it into the ground.

Although I've had issues in the past nose rising on takeoff beyond what I've ever experienced in a real or sim aircraft.. This is the first time the aircraft has acted so wildly..

Sad to say, but it appears that at least for right now this goes into the hanger and I'm back to the C337.  Hopefully, I'll be able to pull it out at some point in the future.

Only the pilot, no passenger.. However, being a glutton for punishment, I'm going to give it anohter try later today..

Perhaps after a reboot.

It is a nice aircraft though and I've only flown it about a half-dozen times.. so maybe i was due.. :-)

Almost sounds like you accidentally turned mouse yoke on or something, the A2A 172 has been totally docile for me for many flights so far.

At least you drove it into the ground... What a guy!

I don't want to assume anything about your flying knowledge, but are you trying to fly it with trim? You should always fly the airplane with elevator, then compensate with trim if you can, it often won't be enough on its own.

Also, is your Accu-sim ON?

If so, did you do a pre-flight, as it could be control surface issue/damage, control lock issue or any number of things that a pre-flight would discover.

In my experience flying the real 172, with the trim wheel set in the take off position, I would often have to use excessive nose down elevator pressure to keep it at proper climb speed and even it out with trim.

Wish I could say the same, but takeoffs have been anything but docile.  I'm continually plagued with the nose pitching up during takeoff.   That's the reason for the nose down trim rather than neutral.

If I don't do some hefty nose down elevator pressure then I will evenutally stall.

I admit to not having flown a real C172 in about ten years, but I don't recall any of the pre-R models reacting the same.

The C172 was just too docile an aircraft.

It's definitely mandatory to visit the Maintenance Hangar and do the Pre-Flights in this aircraft prior to flight, because that's the beauty of Accu-Sim;  damage does occur and there are consequences.   I've just had metal shavings in my oil  ^_^  and the resultant flight was with a severely rough running engine  - just as it should be!

It's a beautiful aircraft;  yes there have been issues, that A2A have looked at meticulously and analytical, and all of which are being addressed (despite some people - not A2A I hasten to add - aggresively trying to silence anyone raising issues, and insisting 'all is perfect' with the 172).

The clickspot issue was resolved, and soon I'm confident the Ground Friction on Taxi issue will also be solved; there's a good thread on the A2A forum where JimmiG and I have posted comparison videos and Scott is engaged and I am positive we'll soon see that issue nailed.

Things like the 'nose up' tendancy on take-off and the challenging landings, perhaps there is some room for some FDE tweaks, but equally I'm open to some of us (me included) being wrong about those ones being off, and that in fact, it's a symptom of us now having a super realistic GA trainer;   that we all need to take some training on!

I would agree and at some point I'm fairly confident that A2A will resolve the issues, whether real or imagined.

I've got to say though that during the time I flew rentals I only ran into one maintenance issue.   You just didn't encounter shavings in oil, flap damage, etc.. even in "used" rental aircraft.

Perhaps I got lucky and flew with clubs that were on top of their maintenance, but it just didn't happen that frequent.

Really?

Honestly.  That's a load of bull*&$!. Who is aggressively trying to silence you?  I'll eat my words if you can provide one post anywhere on any forum with one person "aggressively" trying to "silence" you.

Find it keeps cruise altitiude fine and found maintence reduces headaches. Use my pinky for rudder on ch yoke with its mini rudder pedals to keep it level on cruise. Use power and elevator to land it smooth. Landed it today and stall beep happened right the moment plane touch the ground on landing. The plane docile and maintain it your fine.

Is there any emerging consensus on the flight model of this airplane?  I've read so many mixed reports now, I don't know what to think.
