September 16, 201312 yr Hey, first let me say, I DON'T THINK IT'S PMDG FAULT. THIS TOPIC IS FOR TIPS. so I had 2 OOM's, on flight's to EGLL with uk2000 scenery for almost everywhere in the UK, including FTX global. THE AUTOGEN is on dense no AI traffic or something. flying online on vatsim. and the second one is on OMDB flytampa with FTX global, same settings. when flying to aerosoft scenery though everything works wonders. I read the introduction page 21-25, but still getting those issues. I was wondering what can I do to make it work with good settings without making all look crap. Computer specs: I5 2500k gtx560Ti 8gb ram 64 bit OS. thanks for the helpers! if any more information need, let me know. Daniel choen
September 16, 201312 yr i have nearly same specs, and i never ever get OOM, my VAS usage is constantly around 2.4 (2,6 on airport with scenery) (that mean i have 1.4gb spare) .. all what can i say.. lower your settings.. set water to Low 2.x, disable shadows, scenery complexity dense, autogen dense too (which you have) set cloud coverage density to low, (this mater a LOT if you have installed rex textures with 4096 resolution) cloud draw distance to 60, (eg lowest) and disable road vehicles.if you all set to this, you will never get OOM again.. oh and if you set your LOD_RADIUS to 6.5 forget it.. its mother of OOMs, set it to 4.5 (default FSX setting) Jaroslav Kolesnikov

September 16, 201312 yr Switch to REX 1024 clouds and set LOD Radius to 5.5. I think this will work just fine. Mark CYYZ
September 16, 201312 yr Lower the cloud res to 1024, this means they take 1/16 the space and actually look more cloud like as have less sharp edges. Also switching views out the cockpit leaks memory so I been told and to get 100Mb one can always disable RAAS.
September 16, 201312 yr Jaroslav, thanks for the answer, i do use REX with 4096 resolution, but lowering the weather to low will impact the visual of the sim a lot, wouldn't it? You'll hardly notice the difference lowering those clouds to 2048 or even 1024. Just try it. Also reduce your cloud drawing distance in your settings if you haven't already. Just accept that you (we) will never be able to run FSX with present (or future for that matter)-day addons with everything set to the max. 4Gb VAS is just not enough... Regards, Frank van der Werff
September 16, 201312 yr Daniel- What I do to prevent OOMs is to disable every addon scenery I don't plan on flying near. If you have addon airport that have photo scenery and do not plan of flying in or out of them, disable them in the scenery library. I can make long hauls with high settings in the CFG without running out of VAS space this way. David Zambrano, CFII, CPL, IGI I know there's a lot of money in aviation because I put it there.
September 16, 201312 yr To be honest here is what i do . All addon airports offer moving aes lite well most. Things like moving cars on the freeways and the moving airport trucks. I disable all of it as the flight is more important to me and i just don't get them now .. Autogen set to Dense. Clouds on low density with a draw distance of 70miles. Fsx is great all on full as we all know but draw distanse is a killer on memory. By this i mean if you have draw distance on full your asking fsx to load something that is not even in view yet so what is the point . ! MUST KEEP YOUR LOD RADIUS TO 4.5 IMPORTANT!
September 16, 201312 yr Author Thanks for the Tips, I will try a flight later on the day and report to you guys if that's interesting to you. cheers. Daniel choen

September 16, 201312 yr completely disagree with those who say to bring LOD radius down to 4.5 I use setting of 6.5 and never had any OOMs. However - this might be system-specific. Rest of the suggestions I could fully agree. Clouds and traffic make huge impact on preformance.

Yeah i understand that you may have this setting and get away without the OOMS some do some don't but just as a standard setting some may find this ok .. Steve ^_^
September 16, 201312 yr Commercial Member I even put my rex clouds to 512 so i can have the density to 12 [fsx config override] B) Alex Ridge Join Fswakevortex here! YOUTUBE and FACEBOOK
