September 20, 201312 yr Not the last one caught, and happens from time to time its just the media wasting print space.
September 20, 201312 yr its just the media wasting print space So we shouldn't be told about drunk pilots? Gerry Howard
September 20, 201312 yr So we shouldn't be told about drunk pilots? Would you fly more frequently if you were told about every drunk pilot/every MEL item/every dispatch with absolute minimum legal fuel?!? What happened to AVSIM
September 20, 201312 yr only if they are reported accurately and more often they are not I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
September 20, 201312 yr So news should be suppressed to protect vested interests? Nope, just the other way round: That's the reason why news actually get suppressed, occasionally. What happened to AVSIM
September 20, 201312 yr I personally know a pilot who would leave an all nighter party straight to his 5:30 am flight. Also, many of flight crew of a very well known airline use marjuana when partying with flight attendants during overnight turnarounds. I never ever fly on that particular airline. So, this report doesn't surprise me. God knows how many pilot error crashes were caused by alcohol or drugs. Naif Almazroa My Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/Youmou0205

So, this report doesn't surprise me. God knows how many pilot error crashes were caused by alcohol or drugs. Considering a screen of the pilots' blood is standard procedure after a crash, it's not just God that knows, but the general public as well . At least if we're considering crashes that occurred in countries that make investigation reports public (i.e. most of the Western world, as well as Indonesia, to name but one). The answer is: none that I can think of off the top of my head, and certainly not very many. Reporting news items like this is fine, as long as people remember that news stories are a poor source of statistical data. That a single pilot was found to be drunk doesn't tell you much if you don't know how often that occurs, or what percentage of the total number of pilots tested that one person represents. Or to quote a Dutch journalist: 'The news can tell you what happened today, but it does not tell you what happens every day.' John-Alan Pascoe
September 20, 201312 yr You said yourself that you are not sure about all countries checking pilots blood after crashes. One more thing did they find the bodies of the AF447 pilots? and if they did can they get a reliable result after spending sometime in the water? September 20, 201312 yr And by the way the pilot I was talking about is from a western country. Naif Almazroa My Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/Youmou0205
September 20, 201312 yr Commercial Member Only one pilot was found. I kinda agree with Nam regarding the partying culture among many (usually) younger First officers. I was at a party in February chatting away with a First officer, completey out of the blue he offered me cocaine, didnt even bat an eyelid. I have no idea how they can get away with that. Rob Prest

I was at a party in February chatting away with a First officer, completey out of the blue he offered me cocaine, didnt even bat an eyelid. I have no idea how they can get away with that. Or better yet why do they do it? I've never used drugs. I have friends who smoke pot (not pilots) but I always go chill outside or somthing till their done with it then I'll go back in and hang out. I don't even want to take the chance of a contact high which could show up on a drug screen or smelling like it in case I got pulled over. I've worked hard to get where I am and I'm not gonna loose my ticket for stupid reasons. I'm not a prude I can party most of my friends under the table but I adhere to the 12 hour bottle to throttle rule if I've had alot to drink and, the legal 8 hours if I've just had a few. I'd rather put a bullet in my head then use cocaine or other heavy drugs after what I've seen happen to family and friends who got addicted! ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. Type Ratings B-737, ERJ-190,ERJ-170
