Fuel Dump Simulated?

Featured Replies

Here's what it looks like in the real thing. Korean Air 777 Sunday outbound from DFW had an engine failure on takeoff and had to dump fuel to get below max landing weight. I wondered why our water tasted funny.

There is a specific Checklist for fuel dumping in the ECL.

It's actually a lot simpler, and if you follow the ECL (in the non-normal checklist section), it'll answer all the questions you might have.

If you prefer, it's in the QRH on page 12.14.

Where do I find the fuel dump buttons on the aircraft many thanks

Come on Kyle, I find that your videos are well put together. I prefer them over the heavily edited light bloomed filled, over contrasted, Dramatic music, heavity vignetted, heavy panning and camera switching videos that we see today.

That's actually really good to hear.  Thanks Jamaljé!

By looking on the overhead panel for the subpanel labeled "FUEL JETTISON."

A little looking around yourself wouldn't hurt, because that one's pretty obvious

Labeled with #12 on FCOMv2 page 1.21.1.

AOA goes in depth about this in the 747 videos.  777 has the same fuel jettison panel as the 747.  In the video they do a engine failure after V1 with a takeoff near MTOW.  They takeoff then move into a hold dumping fuel.  Then return back to the airport.

Fuel dump is simulated both systems-wise and visually.

I recorded a video with one in it but ended up scrapping it because it was in the middle of the night, and it just looked half-rate (not that much of my stuff looks too professional anyway).

we all love your videos specially the one with the fuel dump addition :P

again. there is a specific Non-normal checklist for fuel dumping in the ECL which describes the process step by step. We really couldn't do more...

First of all: I keep my deep respect for ALL people posting here.

Second: English is not my first language.

This being said, the following is about the triple 7. I'm wondering why people start threads asking questions that are clearly explained in ALL documentation released with the add-on. Guys, believe me: ALL your answers and procedures are pretty well described in the Manuals. An example: like maaaany of you out there, I'm a FSUIPC user, who assigned and calibrated all my axes using this Pete Dowson's marvel. Well, everything went like a charm until PMDG 777 came out and the famous throttle issue appears. My first though: "I'll delete fsuipc.ini file, let FSX create a new one and will assign and calibrate all from the beginning. This surely fix the throttle issue". Results: NO WAY! The weird throttle behavior remain there, gettin' me upset. The following text is extracted from the PMDG 777-200LR/F Introduction Manual:

"The PMDG 777-200LR/F is fully compatible with FSUIPC except that we recommend that you do not calibrate your flight controllers through FSUIPC. We recommend that you use the driver/software that comes with your hardware. (Calibrating through FSUIPC may not cause any problems, but in certain circumstances with certain hardware we found that problems existed that could only be resolved by having the user conduct the calibration via the driver/software.)

I went back into this and applied this recommendation to my setting. Results: At the time I'm posting this, 9 long-hauls and 4 short/mid-hauls flights taxiing, taking-off, cruising, descending, approaching, landing and taxiing to the ramp WITHOUT even a minimal throttle issue. This also include inflight A/T disconnect and re-connect for test the system. No issue.

Obviously one of the main goals of this forum is to post experiences and issues in order to get that useful advice or recommendation from another user that has helped me many times. I really appreciated it! But came on guys, don't buy an add-on, install it, run FSX, jump into the cockpit and if you see this or that doesn't work as you expected, come here and open a thread posting "Engine issue, Autopilot problem, FMC doesn't work...etc..." OBVIOUSLY, issues happens, especially in a pretty new add-on but if you look into the Manuals and follow some basic steps BEFORE to fly, probably you'll certainly have an issue but surely you'll be closer to have a rock solid stable configuration which will give you long hours of fun. Sorry about grammar faults

Have nice flights, Cpts!

The ECL has actually a fully QRH in it, you have to go to the non-normal section, there should be something like "fuel" (im not "in" 777 right now) and then you can access the "fuel dump" (better fuel jettison as it is called) checklist - it will even check if you operate the switches correctly. Btw, fuel dumping is really not a science, it's actually rather easy and when you have found the fuel dumping panel the buttos are quite self explanatory. Just try it - it is a simulator, nothing will happen if you do something "wrong" ;)

edit: i just checked the documents:

go to: Non-normal menu/unannuciated checklists/fuel jettison and follow teh steps (also in the QRH 12.14)

In the FCOM the panel is described under 12.10.3

If in AUTO the system will dump TO MLW, not below. If you want less than MLW, you have to manually select it.

IMHO the QRH is as essential to read as the flight manual. Read the procedures, get an idea for them.

Best regards,

Robin.

Pretty easy however I'm not near plane, manuals or the AoA video.  Just arm the system then flip the clear guards for the left & right nozzles pressing them.  Then pull the Fuel to Remain knob.  It will automatically dump to max landing weight.  You with also see the fuel weight selected as well time to the weight is achieved.  Turning the knob you can adjust the amount manually.

Now I'm not sure if there are differences on the 744 and the 772 as far as logic even though they panels both look the same, but I've dumped fuel on both.  However the PMDG 744 you had to turn the knob to manually select fuel to remain.  That might be how the real aircraft is or just PMDG wasn't on top of their game as they are now in regards to system depth/logic.  But the 777 ER ECL walks you right through everything.
