September 23, 201312 yr And you're going to post some shots of your Inspectorsettings, right, Rod? huh? Please? Since a lot if not most of the Inspector settings make no difference at all with DX10 it might be better to only post the relevant settings from now on. ^_^ I still 'fear' a lot of people will post NI settings and discuss things that actually do nothng. Would be a waste of time and forum space. B) Apart from the Bioshock setting (mandatory for aircraft ground shadows) and the AF settings (which imho everyone should set to User defined/Off and 16x) the only other thing you have to think about if you are going to use 2x, 4x or 8x SGSS... So why ask for Rod's settings, Paul? Life has become a LOT easier with DX10...! ^_^
September 23, 201312 yr "1/3 RR with 20" runs very very nicely! Son of a gun, I have to post some piccies of Anacortes with rain, thunder, heavy cloud, cars and other stuff. Seriously...! Hmmmm.... I did try that setting a while ago (before the Fixer but with DX10) and I wasn't too happy with it. 20 just didn't feel really smooth... Of course smoothnes is very objective! I will nevertheless give it a try the next time I start FSX. (Isn't testing a lot of fun?!?!? )

September 23, 201312 yr Aren't you getting a bit too sure of yourself, Jeroen ? LOL Well, yeah, probably, but I DID ask for confirmations of my findings and so far no one said I was wrong. It still could be all of this only works like this on my PC but until now no one has said I am wrong, so right now I like to be very sure of myself for once in my life. Feels good LOL. Seriously though, I don't mind at all to stand corrected so if you have different experiences, please post them! This topic isn't here to show that I am right but to find out what does and doesn't work with DX10 so it will be easier for everyone to get the best out of DX10.
September 23, 201312 yr Well, basically, in let's say 6 hours, there is no way that you could have tried ALL the possible combinations in Nvidia Inspector and thoroughly test them in FSX. So let's not sweep aside what others have too say, even if, in the end, they could be wrong or if it only works on their setup but perhaps not on yours or mine. so right now I like to be very sure of myself for once in my life. Feels good LOL You bet  And please keep posting, love to read your input in these threads  KInd regards Jean-Paul I7 8700K / Fractal Design Celsius S24 watercooling / ASRock Z370 Extreme4 motherboard / Corsair 32GB 3200mhz DDR4 / INNO3D iChiLL GeForce GTX 1080 Ti X3 / Samsung SSD 960 EVO M.2 PCIe NVMe 500GB / Seasonic-SSR-850FX power supply / Fractal Design Define R5 Black case / AOC Q3279VWF 32″ 2560x1440 monitor / Benq GL2450 24″ 1920x1080 monitor / Track-IR 4
September 23, 201312 yr The negative LOD bias is probably a placebo effect for me when it comes to the shimmering. If anything, it is suppose to force the texture mapping algorithm to use a higher resolution texture filter than it normally would for the given LOD distance. I went back and revisited this setting yesterday since I was in there anyway checking AA settings and such. I tried both negative and positive settings with Clamp and Allow and while positive settings certainly decreased my texture resolution, I couldn't make out any improvement with the negative settings. September 23, 201312 yr I have set up my NI as per J Van E 's suggestions, I have also set the Fixer to 4X and SGSS to 4X. I have to say that framerates and smoothness are very good, shimmering on water in sunlight is very slight but kind of looks like it would when sun reflects and shimmers off the water. Other shimmering is very minor. The one thing I did notice is that when zoomed out a little bit on the aircraft (spot view) you can see very small jaggies on the edge of the aircraft. It is subtle but it is definitely there. I have left it the way it is for now as the smoothness and framerates are so good. Mark CYYZ
September 23, 201312 yr Well crap, it seems that Rod the "negative LOD bias charlatan" is raining on this parade. As with all tips (and to all readers: please do hurry and post as many as you can think of here to dilute the perceived usefulness of this thread, and do remember to include hires screen shots for maximum effect ), they are worth a try provided they are not destructive, nor downright silly. As always YMMV! September 24, 201312 yr Speaking about Cloud Shader does anyone can provide an example of it? Is a particular effect? Riccardo OS: Windows 10-64 bit, CPU: i7-7700K @4.20 GHz, GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 G1 8GB GDDR5, RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 32GB 3000MHz, MB: MSI Z270
September 24, 201312 yr Hi Rich: The "Cloud thing" fix removes AA when it comes to cloud creation - which makes for a lower graphics load, and probably slightly higher fps. The issue is that SGSS is applied to the whole screen, and we can't 'not' use it. At least - that's my interpretation of it. Page 32 of the manual!
