October 10, 201312 yr Author From the main FSX forum, SFX 1.5.1 came out: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=381912 I posted 1.5.0. Apparently, the dev gave it another push and fixed some things in 1.5.1 so quickly update your 1.5.0.
October 11, 201312 yr does anyone know if 1.4 setting files will not work with 1.5? Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
October 11, 201312 yr Author does anyone know if 1.4 setting files will not work with 1.5? It works. I wrote several times that 1.5.1 is backward compatible.
October 12, 201312 yr Author Guys, something important I noticed regarding SFX and DX10. SMAA is DEGRADING YOUR AA. There's a bug if SMAA is disabled in SFX. It will then darken the whole scene. Enabling SMAA will cure this problem, but if you toggle SFX ON/OFF quickly you'll notice how it jagges up the perfect NI AA. :( This is the first time I noticed this problem. Turning all SMAA sliders to 0 helps, but still not 100% perfect. Thing is, if you disable SMAA you can't use SFX at all because it causes a malfunction. Probably something within SFX dx10 dll. One solution can be transferring back to ENB. Also another note from my findings with sweetfx in fsx. Since different developers use different material properties on their model, some will shine terribly upon enabling bloom and some less. The solution then, is to create a few sweetfx presets and picking the one that fits the aircraft you're flying the most.
October 20, 201312 yr After installing Win 8.1 the sim seems to run smoother in high-complexity areas, however I now have a 5-10 FPS drop with SweetFX 1.5.1 enabled. I also can't seem to toggle the effects on and off (which may be a symptom of something else) - any ideas?? Thanks, Dylan
October 20, 201312 yr Author Sounds like placebo.. win 7 or 8 it shouldn't make your performance any different. Check the ini files, it could be that toggling is now mapped to another key.
October 20, 201312 yr Definitely not a placebo - reading on various forums (including the Win8 forum here) seems to show an issue with SweetFX running on Win 8.1. No issue before with Win 7 or 8...
October 20, 201312 yr Author I was referring to you saying your fsx performance improved in win 8. It's just not true. SFX could possibly have compatibility issues with win 8.. I don't have win 8 so didn't dig into it yet. If you use DX10 you should try my suggestion to lay off the filters. I'm saying this after trying fsx with the dx10 free fixes for quite long. B)
October 20, 201312 yr I'd suggest you give it a try then (especially as you don't use SFX) You'll find many of the texture and bandwidth settings react quite differently than they did in win7...
October 20, 201312 yr sweetfx and steves dx10 scenery fixer do not work together, is there a solution?
