October 20, 201312 yr sweetfx and steves dx10 scenery fixer do not work together, is there a solution? They work together just fine, vickyj. One has to know how to install it, how to edit the settings.txt, and how to fix it when it stops FSX from loading. There are dozens of posts on SweetFX on this and many other forums. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
October 20, 201312 yr I have had problems in the past with SweetFX but decided to give it another try. I installed V1.5 and used it with the Flight FX gui and it was working great until I loaded up Fraps for some screen shots. As soon as Fraps started it killed my sfx settings and since then I have been unable to get it to work again even after restarting FSX and no Fraps !!! Barry Wells
October 20, 201312 yr Author Hmm.. I already said couple times you should backup your sfx settings file. In case you didn't, just copy the current one out and put a stock one in. FSX should now boot. If it still doesn't boot, reinstall fsx files to fsx root and it will work again. Gone through this many times.
October 20, 201312 yr No, FSX boots Ok, but trying to use Flight FX gui to change settings no longer works with SweetFX which initially it did before firing up Fraps. Barry Wells

October 21, 201312 yr is a cruel reality that does not work with SweetFx fraps but if it works and with less resources is Action!
October 21, 201312 yr how can i get sweetfx 1.5 work with fsx and steves dx10 scenery fixer ?? kindly help regards
October 21, 201312 yr At the moment, Fraps and SFW won't work at the same time (known issue) If you need to have FPS displayed, take screenshots and / or record videos, you can use Bandicam. It perfectly works with SFX. The free version allows screenshots, FPS counter and 10 mn recording video (but with a nasty watermark). I didn't try any other software, but it proves there can be an overlay counter, and SFX in the same time.
October 21, 201312 yr Thanks for that RockOla. Never heard of Bandicam before but I have just given it a try and it works great for screenshots and FPS with SFX and DX10. Barry Wells
October 21, 201312 yr Personally, Vickyj, I use 1.3.7, as it seems the most stable, and I prefer to control the settings with a desktop shortcut to the settings.txt file, rather than a 'configurator'. SweetFX has nothing to do with Steve's DX10 Fixer, Vickyj. SFX is merely a post-process graphics-enhancing application, and when using when using DX10, has two "active' files - dxgi.dll and dxgi.fx, with an injector to add the effects into the graphics stream between the GPU and the monitor, and a manually controllable settings text file. The SweetFX folder contains a Presets folder, where some preset game settings can be kept, and the main folder - Shaders, which is the heart of the program. Two other files - d3d9.dll and d3d9.fx are used instead of the (DX10) dxgi.dll and dxgi.fx files - if, or when you may switch back to DX9 To set it up, you just copy the SweetFX (1.3.7) folder - the one with the Preset and Shader folders inside - to the root folder of FSX. Then do the same with the two dxgi files, the injector.ini and lastly the two SweetFX_settings.txt and SweetFX_preset.txt files. Once that's done make a shortcut to the SweetFX_settings.txt and place it on your desktop, so that you can change the settings in FSX by putting FSX into Windowed Mode first, making the change, then seeing what it looks like back in full-screen mode. Yes - I know there are other ways to do it, Adi, Pause, Scroll Lock, etc., but when those keys are configured for other purposes, Alt-Enter is just as fast and one has to be in Windowed mode to make the changes. SweetFX occasionally stops FSX from starting when it becomes corrupt. The easiest way back is to delete the complete SweetFX folder and the five files from the root of FSX, then re-install from the original download. If you have made a good copy of your SWeetFX_settings.txt - you can swap this one back in after you've tested that the new install works. Re-make the shortcut. Version 1.4 is almost the same, same installation, etc., the exception being the addition of a dlls folder. Version 1.5 is a repeat of 1.4, plus a new shader.fx file in the FSX root, and introduces a log. Also as you have read - you can use an external configurator, too, to make your SFX adjustments. The issue this presents is that SFX is a 'fragile' application - easily broken, and the configurator(s) available simply introduce another level whereby any failure becomes a more complicated 'fix'. A great addon, creating lots of interesting graphical experimenting opportunities for making screenshots or movies, etc., but also it aids the many 'different' flight simmers meet their own flight-sim "look", just a Shade or ENB does! October 21, 201312 yr I have to say that version 1.5 of SweetFX seem so far to the most stable in my experience. I had issues with random crashes with version 1.4. However version 1.5 works perfectly with the DX10 fixer. I have now flown over 50 hours without a single issue. SweetFX does add some brilliant visuals and is a perfect partner for the DX10 fixer and the SHADE application. FSX has never looked better!
