October 18, 201312 yr Why buy a tin of beans that has that 57 variety on it., when you can buy a tin cheaper that doesn't, if it's from a supermarkets own brand? Only, in this instance, when you brought the beans, the tin had the right label but the contents were an imitation. When I opened the tin, metaphorically speaking, and installed my first ever ORBX product, I didn't expect to be able to fly VFR with pin point accuracy but I did expect it to 'taste' good! I'm sure that a leading brand like the afore mentioned, would not consider using the contents of the imitation. It takes, a long time to build up brand loyalty and the entire company hangs in the balance of its good reputation. People always remember you for the one bad thing you did and never for all the wonderful things. The company, has a right to ignore its customers, or be open and admit its shortfalls. This should always be done promptly. It doesn't seem to be the case here. The danger now is, that a precedence has been set.
October 18, 201312 yr Folks, let me conclude by saying that FTX NZQN seems to be worth purchasing! What happened to AVSIM
October 18, 201312 yr Why is Orbx quality not what it was? Three reasons: i) Customers spoilt by the quality of the earlier Orbx offerings. ii) Orbx using different development teams among the various products. iii) Having a pop at Orbx is currently the "in thing" in the FS community. I don't know the inner workings of Orbx but I'd guess investors have put a lot of money into Orbx and JV is feeling the pressure to make a return on that investment. Nick

October 18, 201312 yr I had no idea Orbx hired someone to develop products in their name. That is weird. Were they hurting for money when developing FTX North America? I am glad now I never listened to the hype of the EU scenery. Too bad I paid hundreds for all of Australia and North America and am still waiting on major hubs to be properly done. At least FTX Global is a quality product.

Awesome hype about this product IMO, let´s wait and see.
October 18, 201312 yr I had no idea Orbx hired someone to develop products in their name. Afaik that's how they always worked. It's not that all other regions and airports are created 'in house'. There are lots of scenery developers all over the world who simply have their homework released through Orbx (using specific Orbx libraries but that's about it). Hence the sometimes huge differences between their addon airports. No landclass yet, what about coastlines, still default?Roads criss-crossing thru houses etc.? Landclass will be taken care of with OpenLC, coastlines (amongst others) with Vector and roads running through houses will NEVER be solved as long as you use landclass.

It is a texture replacement package, so I really don't understand your complaints... Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
October 18, 201312 yr While were sort of talking about FTX Global Vector, something concerns me. Having seen JV's screenshots at Orbx, the roads just don't blend, run through neighborhoods haphazardly. I really hope there's an option to disable, like UTX. Having seen JV's screenshots at Orbx, the roads just don't blend, run through neighborhoods haphazardly. I really hope there's an option to disable, like UTX. Since Vectors will only include major roads, unlike UTX, I doubt there will be an option to disable them. There are two ways to overcome roads slashing through houses. Either place autocen as vectors like Ultimate Alaska X. It will tax performance, especially in large cities. Or urban landclass textures needs to be designed differently without the typical rooftop and road aerial photos. Difficult, but not impossible. October 18, 201312 yr Sounds perfectly normal. This is how the FSX terrain engine works. I don't know any vector based scenery that has realistic roads with every bend in them. It would tax performance considerably. When I first got UTX Europe, I tested its roads accuracy by following a route that I often drive. This in a part of the world where straight roads are the exception rather than the norm. I managed to nivage successfully to my "destination" using the roads only as reference, and was pleasantly surprised the accuracy with which the road network was depicted. Every bend, every turn, was right where it should have been.

Personally, I think the Orbx Australia and North America packages are extremely good products and I have no regrets about any of those that I've bought, it's just, to me that when they did the U.K, they "Dropped the Ball" Ian.
