October 17, 201312 yr Some people seem to have got a little confused on this topic, as was stated in the original post it's the quality of the product that's in question, I don't believe the accuracy was ever mentioned. Whilst brand loyalty is all very well, it seems to me that Orbx have achieved a mythical status, whereby no one can comment on their products without incurring the wrath of the Orbx Appreciation Society. Yes, I thought that was made extremely clear and not just in the original post but throughout. I presume some people simply don't read things through properly before replying. Although, what with some of my longer posts, I can't blame them! Whilst brand loyalty is all very well, it seems to me that Orbx have achieved a mythical status, whereby no one can comment on their products without incurring the wrath of the Orbx Appreciation Society. I couldn't agree more, Ian. I really enjoy the FTX stuff and I appreciate what the likes of Orbx, Carenado, RealAir, etc, do to keep things fresh in FTX, but the unofficial clique that seems to appear and keep comments from getting too close to John and his team is a very real thing and almost uncanny in it's nature. You'd never see something like this in the Orbx forums, it would be pounced upon and ripped apart in seconds by overzealous moderation; but I think this thread, although containing strong views, many not in favour of FTX EU, has remained civilised and reasonably calm. And as much as the guys over at the Orbx boards constantly bang on about only wanting to hear constructive criticism (in other words, don't say anything bad about our product), I honestly believe threads like this are more constructive than simple, "this town is in the wrong place", kind of threads. But I'm only me, so I may well be talking complete and utter tosh.

Ian. Perfect Ian! Some good points StormVR6! FYI - I have traveled all over, lived in England for 6 months (Brentford), travelled Europe, NA - coast to coast, Hawaii, Caribbean, China (worked there for four months)...been there done that. Specifically, viewing the texture plates of each of the regional scenery packages, while the texture file resolutions are identical, and in some cases are the same textures...I believe you are saying the some in EU regions custom textures (perhaps urban) are not as sharp (fussy edges) as compared other regions, which I also feel may be true in some textures. The challenge in getting it right depends on source info, scale of photo texture converted to fsx texture file matched to meet scale of autogen objects in best proportions, I think they did a fine job, particularly trying to capture the england look or row houses with those garden, green areas inbetween. What I got when I bought the product looks like the screenshots used to promote the product. The question was "why is FTX quality not as it was?". My comments reflect some opinion on this broader question of quality not only of certain textures but also of quality associated with custom textures, landclass, autogen and autogen placement and vector information, roads, rails, lakes, rivers, coastlines, powerlines. Personal opinion, that the folks in SIM720 are fully qualified to provide reasonably good quality textures, and some of their training came from the senior members of the Orbx team. Still the best regional scenery (non photo scenery) available and at a reasonable price. Not to mention the 100s of customized airports that accompany the ENG package, a real bonus over default, a great balance of quality. I do have some issue with the "size" of regions and how they are priced (IE Wales), which is why I stopped buying their EU regions. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3

October 17, 201312 yr I do have some issue with the "size" of regions and how they are priced (IE Wales), which is why I stopped buying their EU regions. In my post further back, I mentioned just that. England was carved up into 4 slices, and New Zealand into 2. Yet both countries are the same size geographically. And NZ has more air strips ( not airports) System: MSFS2024, ASUS Rog Stryx Z790-A, Intel i9-14900KF, Asus ROG Ryujin III 360 , Asus Hyperion Case,Rog Stryx 4090 OC, Samsung 970 EVO M.2 SSD, 1Tb Samsung 860 EVO SSD,64Gb G Skill Memory, Asus Aura 1200W Gold PSU,Win 11 ,LG C4 48" 4K OLED Screen., Airbus TCA Full Kit, Stream Deck XL. What I said was bloody stupid, I didn't think before I opened my big mouth (well before I pressed the "post" button) and nonsense like that will only cause the integrity, of what has been a very interesting and sound thread, to be lost. But come on, don't hang me out to dry just for that. I ain't all bad!

You may not know it, but the English are renowned explorers and I myself travel - slightly further than the next county or state I might add - so I'm fully aware what other parts of the world look like. Ha, ha! Well, this American forgives you. I must say, though, that in all fairness it is a bit easier for those in Europe to visit other countries as multiple countries are literally right next door, and in many cases less than 100 miles away. I certainly don't believe that the vast majority of us in the flight simulation community, regardless of nationality, can be painted with the same brush as those ignorant people who, for example, can't locate Australia or Canada on a world map. Yes, we have plenty of those folks here in the USA, but I don't think you'll find them participating on these forums. I generally find most flightsimmers to be well spoken, well informed people of above average intelligence. Now, to get back to the original topic: I think everyone should give ORBX a break. October 18, 201312 yr Hello Bryan, . Yeah, here's a Canadian that has traveled and I also know geography better than most thanks very much. That horse your on is pretty high.
October 18, 201312 yr Author ....That horse your on is pretty high. OK, OK, I screwed up, I get it. Even though I'm entirely to blame, the horse has been shot and I've just eaten a large slice of humble pie. It wasn't the first time I've eaten from that dish either and it still tastes bittersweet. I'll tell you what, you guys forgive me and I'll forgive Orbx for making a mistake also. How about it? After all, we're all only human, aren't we? And besides, it might bring a nice end to a thread that's run it's course. ^_^ Happy flying guys. See you in the skies.

A nice way to end the discussion and thread, or at least that part of the thread. It's nice to see we can be mature and that we don't have to be babysat my the moderators. Too bad about the horse though lol Lee
