October 16, 201312 yr As others have said, the difference in quality is not related to the type of environment being simulated. Whether the Pacific North West of America, the windy moors of North Yorkshire, or the plains of Australia. It's still possible to discern 'quality' in it's own right; not just related to how the area is in real life. Fair enough, but I would like to have it pointed out, so that I may learn something?
October 16, 201312 yr For those that are unhappy with FTX EU, simply disable the scenery and fly around Great Britain for awhile...you will be clammering back real quick... I agree.... but that doesn't in anyway feed into the debate on whether there is a reduction in quality between the FTX EU regions and the other (non-SIM720) products. It's true that in pretty much any area of FSX, if you have an add-on for the area, going back to the default FSX will be jarring. Fair enough, but I would like to have it pointed out, so that I may learn something? That's fair enough - just comes down to whether anyone has the time to create screenshots, to show you. That brings up a good point in itself, because the Orbx screenshots of ENG were so heavily 'produced' that it could be argued that they didn't give such an accurate portrayal of the product in it's 'vanilla' form, in FSX. So yes, I stand down - you're right, we probably do need screenshots! Those of us who own ENG and other FTX Regions can clearly see the 'quality gulf' on each flight though.
October 16, 201312 yr Author .....Out of interest StormVR6 - do you own a Corrado? Yes, I used to a proud owner of the Mystic Blue Corrado VR6 Storm. It was my first "proper" car and one that appealed to me so much I used it's name on forums. I've been using the name 'StormVR6' on various sites for fifteen years now. Fair enough, but I would like to have it pointed out, so that I may learn something? I'll try to get some shots up later, unless somebody else wants to take the time to point out the obvious. ^_^

I've been using the name 'StormVR6' on various sites for fifteen years now. If I followed your logic, I'd be called "FiatPunto_1.1" ..... definitely doesn't have the same ring eh? Nice cars the (original) Corrado's though. My pal had one of the Supercharged 1.3 models .... what a blast!
October 16, 201312 yr I was talking on Teamspeak several weeks ago to some Australians who were close to the Orbx outfit in the early days. I said how disappointed I was in ENG and the consensus was...There isn't the love any more! That, for me summed it up. I used to, like many of you, snap up everything that Orbx produced but now I'm very picky. Ha! I've just bought Damyns Hall the other day and I haven't even looked at it yet! Love? Seriously? To each his own I guess  I want professionalism and dedication like in any other company on Earth. I want Orbx to create cutting edge sceneries and at the same time be succesful as a business. If price and quality match, it is a win-win as I see it, otherwise I do not buy anything. Anyway 'love' will just add another $10 on the salesprice.

I've been using the name 'StormVR6' on various sites for fifteen years now. Ah lucky man. I had a Black 1995 VR6 until a couple of years ago. Loved the look and handling and that engine sounded beautiful at full chat! Would have loved to try the supercharged model. Anyway sorry for taking the thread off topic! The biggest disappointment for me with Orbx England was the lack of any re-modelled airfields. Plus lots of buildings were wrong or randomly stuck on the scenery so am happy to fly VFR with GenX + Trees. PS: I still love their NZ and AUS sceneries! October 16, 201312 yr . Considering it's virtually impossible to post anything but praise for FTX on the Orbx forums - without it being deleted or the poster being slammed LOL  Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
October 16, 201312 yr Those of us who own ENG and other FTX Regions can clearly see the 'quality gulf' on each flight though. Doesn't seem to be the case though does it. See my too long post earlier. I have all FTX EU and FTX PNW and the differences in quality are certainly not obvious to me. Also, I see this come up now and then that ORBX forums do not accept criticism. I have seen some critical comments on their forums that were not only tolerated but responded to. However, once I saw a troll who went on and on with unsubstantiated, abusive accusations and was finally dealt with, but otherwise they seem to be quite open to constructive criticism. October 16, 201312 yr Before I get to my point, let me just say: I'm not here trying to instigate a flame war or some other pointless act against Orbx. The FTX stuff is excellent and I fly over Orbx scenery exclusively. My views below are based on the EU Regions, not new releases (regions and airports) of other parts of the world. But, after more time spent flying around FTX ENG and WLS, I'm becoming more and more disappointed with the lack of overall polish they both exhibit compared to the previously released FTX regions. Yes, I understand that SIM720 are new to FTX, but that can only excuse the end result so far. Ultimately - I don't own Scotland or Northern Ireland, but I've seen them in action - it's hard to believe that the EU regions are the latest creations from Orbx. What with lower quality textures, sloppy autogen placement and average colour representation, it would be an easy mistake to make if you thought they were the debut regions from Orbx. So why the drop in quality? Is it simply down to Orbx HQ releasing software that is known to be of a lesser quality but good enough? Is it a business decision made in an attempt to keep prices fixed in a world of rising costs? The former can be attributed to SIM720 being new on the scene. In my opinion none of SIM720's work is in the same league as the NA, NZ, US and AUS stuff. And, I know, England as a country isn't as beautifully diverse as the PNW, but I'm not talking scenic splendour here, nor am I talking accuracy, I'm talking about texture quality, attention to detail and workmanship. Even the SIM720 airfields lack the polish of the older FTX offerings, but this general drop in quality may not be because SIM720 can't achieve the heights of PNW or SAK, it may be due to something else. The cost of living is rising but does Orbx want to risk increasing it's prices to match? Or does it keep them fixed? Surely something has to give if the latter is the case, doesn't it? Maybe the cost of setting up SIM720 forced Orbx to knock out as many regions and airfields as possible within a set date? Again, causing quality to take a hit. Maybe this, maybe that. As a customer, all I care about is, am I buying the same quality product that I've come to appreciate from the guys at Orbx? After buying my first Orbx region I never hesitated to continue buying more Orbx regions in their respective areas, but after ENG and WLS I'm actually hesitant to buy any further EU regions. Like many here, I don't mind paying more money for a better quality product. So if the extra time needed to polish things up is being cancelled, just to keep each new region at the typical FTX region price, then I for one am happy to pay more for that polishing time to be reinstated. If I'm alone on that one then I'm OK with that. Of course, this is all simply my opinion and there may be some of you thinking I'm crazy and that the FTX EU regions are great. Don't get me wrong, I love flying over FTX England and Wales, but every time I look outside my Waco or Cub I find it hard not to think, "it does look a bit messy down there". If you seriously want an answer this post should have been in an email to Orbx staff. They are the only ones who can give you an answer. If your aim was mindless speculation, then you came to the right spot. Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk Eric
October 16, 201312 yr As Orbx have ended the contact with Sim 720, and I believe they have gone on there own, Orbx have announced that South Norway will be the last project with Sim720 involvement. As the chances of the whole of Norway being completed this century looks very remote. So would anybody buy Orbx South Norway when released, probably not. Not when you only get half of it. Oh bummer... Why the heck did Orbx let Sim720 work on Norway then... Darned. Wish the 'old team' had worked in Norway. On the other hand: a lot of people say Scotland is okay so maybe that team learned how to do things properly just in time. I didn't know btw that Orbx ended the contract? Where did you get that information from?
October 16, 201312 yr They need to get away from the grass strips, small airfields that no ones ever heard of and do bigger fields which they have started doing again, which makes me think they are moving in the right direction. I just dont care about how the grass looks along the fence next to the old wooden chair that is somewhere in the middle of the field that Im never going to go too unless I walk around with bob. They seem to focus in the wrong spots This is so true! - Harry 9800x3D (Strix x870e-E) - 64GB RAM (DDR5 6000, CL 30) - RTX 5090, 34'' 1440p OLED HDR - Windows 11 Pro (1TB M.2) - MSFS 2024 (MS Store, 4TB M.2).
October 16, 201312 yr I didn't know btw that Orbx ended the contract? Where did you get that information from? I read an announcement here SIM720, and a couple other threads here. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.

October 16, 201312 yr JvE, John states in his SIM720 post that northern Norway could be part of a broader Scandinavian scenery. So you can breathe again now My concern wasn't really that Northern Norway wouldn't be released but that the quality of Southern Norway might not be at PNW standards... ^_^ I read an announcement here SIM720, and a couple other threads here. Thanks for the link! EDIT Hm... "The rest of Norway is still up in the air. We have to honour our contract with them of course, so I chose NOS over the Netherlands since it's a nicer place to fly, but as far as the rest of Norway goes, we may tackle it as part of a broader Scandinavia product which gives better value ..." Better value sounds like less quality... So Norway South will be the last region Sim720 will EVER make... How eager would you be to make the best of it if you were on that team...? This doesn't sound good at all. Could well be I will keep on using the great freeware...

You are getting 'professionalism' as in 'Show me the money' The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
