I'm fine thinking with a team, but I hate thinking for a team.  I'm all for looking out, but micromanaging like that just bothers me.  I'd say the plane is different, though.

Makes sense.  In my case, I'm reflecting a different but related workplace bias - I'm much better at big picture than at detail work, and I've always tried to work with colleagues or seconds who can look after the details and operate in my blind spots.  So having the virtual FO and Flight Engineer checking the CHT and running the cowl flaps is fine with me.

To date, most of my simming has been GA-focused, with emphasis on realistic versions of simple aircraft (think A2A Cub and 172, and Aerosoft/4X Katana.  So that's a way to cope with the barrier of too much information.

Of course, that wasn't going to last, though.  My first love in real-world aviation was airliners, and I've finally stepped over the line - which means, to your point, that I'm now working my way singlehanded through all the flows and checklists in the NGX and the Q400.

At some point I'll break down and invest in FS2Crew and/or Multi Crew Experience, and go back to my preferred way of doing things.  But I have another rule to offset my big-picture one, which is this: you can't adequately supervise a job that you haven't done yourself.

So here I am on the learning curve.

Once I quit my day job, I'll have enough time to master it all...  B)

There is no FE station on a DC-6.

Really?  What do you call the place where the Flight Engineer sets?

I think he just meant no dedicated station in terms of a panel.   In the DC-6 the Flight Engineer operates the pedestals and overhead that as you'll know are placed in traditional two pilot style locations.

Flying the T7 is the job of a skilled programmer, not a skilled pilot. 20 minutes in the cockpit working feverishly to get to final holding, but once the throttles are pushed forward, all the hard stuff is done. It dosent matter if it is a ten minute or a ten hour flight, there is probably only another 30 seconds of actual flying until the AP is turned off for touchdown.

Some people are saying the DC-6 will be too hard to fly. I think they are mistaken and if they give it a chance, they will find it as easy to fly as the T7. However, I think it it will be much harder then the T7 to fly it well, and that is a challenge I am looking forward to.

Paul Smith.

Why not PMDG make a classic B747-200/300 or DC-10-30. These are vintage but goodies. My old man will be the first to wanna fly them(He flew them for almost 20 years before retiring about 5 years ago on the B747-400). I think that the only item to get around is the additional flight engineer on board. Maybe have a so called "AUTO" function to him to be selected by key strokes or FMC commands. Few major functions for him like start engine, fire drills, etc. Or we can just perform his task for him by flipping around on his panel.

Best regards,

I seem to recall Milviz possibly doing either a KC-135 or KC-10.  If they do one of those, I would imagine a civil version of such a project would also be included.

Cheers

What Id like to see is a shared cockpit via multiplayer and teamspeak that would make this plane amazing.

Awww c'mon not all 777 pilots are LNAV/VNAV zombies lol I don't touch the AP at all below 10,000 feet for departure and for landing as well if wx permits.

Nice! Thanks for the info! I hope that it will include as many systems as PMDG but not as many bugs on it`s release day!

There is something called "Project DC-XX" in the works and it looks like the first release will be a high-fidelity DC-10: http://www.facebook.com/DC10X

That is usually your choice rather then necessity, and a T7 spends the vast majority of its life above 10k where there are very few excuses not use the AP. I would suggest that the measure of a good T7 pilot is one who is almost as good as the AP.

Despite my negativity, I do enjoy flying the T7, but having learnt how to program it, it is not exactly challangeing. Bad weather? Who cares, It is so big and powerful that unless I do something really stupid, like land with a gale force tail wind, weather really doesn't make a difference to my flying. Failures? The T7 is so highly automated that anything short a wing falling off becomes a process of following a checklist, and it will even tell you which checklist!

Oh yes. I am so looking forward to the DC-6. Flying a plane where my knowledge, my skill and my abilites will make a difference again.

For me it's all about the 747 classic family!

It looked quite far in development during the last update.  I was / am very much looking forward to purchasing it along with the 747-400.

I would prefer a good DC-10 or a classic 747 vs a slow, lumbering prop.
