GeForce ShadowPlay Beta!

Nice video. I noticed that playing it here embedded in your post, it plays smoothly, but if I click "watch on youtube" it stutters quite a lot when viewed over there.

Anyone else seeing the same thing?

Here's my test video (watch it in 720p). Let me know if it stutters or not.

[edit] When watching on youtube, adding "&html5=true" to the end of the URL seems to help a lot with the stutters. Not perfect, but way better than using Flash.

Very very nice!

Hmm, no I didn't notice such problem. :)

I did however notice some 'ticks' in my video... excluding the inertia wheel audio bug that's caused by fsx.

I tried Nvidia's shadowplay yesterday, too. But I couldn't get it to work properly.

I tried the manual mode, started fsx, used alt+F9 and it showed the green dot.

I did my flight and at the end I used alt+F9 again. It showed the store arrow so I quit FSX.

So I checked the Folder where the video should be stored at. I had a couple of files in it.

Some were under 10 seconds long, one was 6 minutes but it wasn't constantly at all. But it showed the record dot the whole time!

I don't have WIN AERO enabled, run FSX in full screen and DX9 mode.

I really hope it has something to do with the beta status.

I would be interested how the ones where it works well did set this up.

Regards

It ist working perfectly! Absolutely no performance drops!

The mistakes I made were:

1. I assume that you should change the hotkey away from ALT+F9 because of the open/hide menubar function with ALT.

2. It does record the whole time as long as you not switching the different view categories. As long as you stay in a category and switch views (with EZdok for example) in one category it keeps recording. If you want to switch the category you should stop recording, switch the view category and go on with recording. Since I did that it recorded with no loss of video.

I think it has something to do with fsx depicting only the VC or the entire external model. I think shadow play can't take it if fsx switches between those models.

3. Shadowplay also stops recording if the FSX ATC window does pop up.

But you might have found that out by yourself already....

This is the video. It is 3GB. Video actually ends when I go to external view.

I changed the hotkey to ALT F1

I do not have EZDok

I am still wondering if ShadowPlay is as smooth as rendering with FS Recorder.

But the main advantage of Shadow is that it records WITH sound, which FSrec cannot do.

I think FSrec rendering still beats Shadow in low-FPS situations. In my case, bush flying over Alaska with FPS in the high 50s, Shadow is nearly perfect (really, it just lack an option to disable mouse pointer capture)

FSR doesn't save video, it saves your flight data. I don't see how you can compare them ??

Hey all,

did anyone try to use shadow play and make a video with PMDG's 777?

When I try it for some reason it doesn't record at all!

I tested recording with the NGX and it worked.

Any ideas?

There is a rendering feature in the latest FSREC builds. It allows rendering a wmv movie at a pre-defined framerate. You can decide you want to record your approach to Heathrow, with heavy traffic and dense clouds cover, at 30 FPS. This is the perfect solution for smooth videos, but it won't record sound, so you will have to record it separately (which can be annoying).

Here's an example I shot a while ago. I could not fly with FPS higher than 15, recorded the approach with FSREC, then played the FRC file and rendered it to a 1080p - 30 FPS WMV file.

I found that switching to html5 at youtube, all these videos play smoothly. Seems that the flash plugin causes lots of stutter for some reason.

You can do this by going to youtube.com/html5 and join the trial. Try it and compare for yourselves.

Thanks alot for this info! That must be exactly what I was doing. I was recording the NGX and since I don't have EZDock or TIR I was switching views a lot. Does this mean switching for example from Virtual Cockpit to Overhead would stop recording? Or only from VC to External to Overwing etc? I don't understand why the recording stops when that happens though.

I know that the button to start/stop/save a manual recording are all the same, is there no way to have a start/stop button and a seperate save button?

That's weird because when I stayed in a view category (Like being in VC and hit a for switching views) there wasn't a problem with the NGX.

It stores the files automatically as soon as you stop recording. But when there was an interruption like an ATC window pop up something went wrong. Because of those assumed interruptions the ghost mode wouldn't work properly with FSX.

Or I might don't get what you ask for...

I still have problems with recording the PMDG 777. I changed the manual record hotkey to F9 and deleted F9 for the use of views in FSX.

And still for some reason it was recording first but then it even crashed FSX...

I was able to record the 777. Only issue I had was FSX crashed before I could complete the circuit. I'm starting to think it's my VRInsight MCP combo, but the sad fact is I have no clue. Regardless, you CAN record the 777.

I did some recordings with the PMDG 777. But it seems like randomly working or messing it up.

After some recordings my EZcam stopped working so I had to pause cancel ezcam and restart it.

Beside that and still the fact that a poping up FSX ATC window stops the recording it works fine.

Guys, I discovered a major bug !

Upon closing fsx (or probably any other game) after a capturing session, I discovered the gpu idle temp will get stuck @ 60c. It happened couple of times and I wasn't sure what's causing it so I restarted Windows and the problem went away, meaning the gpu temp became normal again ~ 30-40c. I now discovered that it will get stuck like this every time you boot a game and utilize SP (doesn't matter for how long). If you go to the Geforce Experience app and click the big 'TURN ON' button over the SP feature, your temp will throttle down to normal again. No need to restart. Despite being beta, this is a really major bug causing the gpu to get hammered @ high temp, for long hours before you notice.

Next step is to investigate if this issue has been reported yet.

Yep, I can confirm this bug. The GPU clock and voltage stays stuck at "full throttle" and thus your temps don't drop back down.

Good find!
