  1. Disabled them in options. If it means even slightly smoother FPS it's a worthwhile tradeoff for me. That said I actually get excellent performance, and I haven't tested if the displays on/off makes a big difference, but I did it with the NGX and honestly when flying I almost never have a need to see those displays. Every little helps.
  2. Maldives to Dubai with Qatar, because I can't get enough of that livery and that scenery.
  3. The thing about simulations like PMDG is that they allow you to learn the systems, procedures, and planning which are essential to the operation of the aircraft. What it doesn't provide is the ability to fly. There are no forces at play, your actions have no consequence, there's no physical feedback to whether you're pushing the limit or not. You can't feel the stuggle to control the aircraft with an engine failure, or in a crosswind. While you may know the procedures to handle those situations, could you still perform them in your sleep with the real feeling of your aircraft slowly slipping out of your control? Probably not. With that said I think flight sim is still an invaluable tool for training. It gives you experience and education in all manner of different areas from planning and dispatching your own flights, to fuel planning, aircraft systems, normal and abnormal procedures, maintenence etc. Some of those things aren't even expected of a real airline pilot, for example people are employed to handle flight planning according to company and civil regulations, the pilot is responsible for safely carrying out that flight plan. So there's certainly a lot of learning to be had, and it would likely be a great advantage in training, but what is emphasised in the real world cannot be simulated; stick and rudder pure flying - physically handling the aircraft.
  4. KSAN > KLAS. I really love this little hop, it's short enough that there's no downtime, and two awesome airports. The KEPEC approach is particuarly scenic.
  5. I was testing some suneffect settings and thought what better than the beautiful sunrise 747-8i? Sightseeing over Kai Tak...
  6. Wait was this added by the driver? I thought it was a problem with DX10. Just recently I was testing some new suneffect styles and with DX10 and bloom everything turned white looking at the sun. For me that is a horrible effect. I like the idea of the sun tinting the screen, but the whiteout is too strong and too... white. Nice to know I can revert my drivers so I can use bloom again.
  7. I'm really not sure what you're hoping to achieve by pointing this out. Piracy is EVERYWHERE. There is nothing you, or PMDG can do except their best to make their products difficult to crack (I've heard the 777 was notoriously difficult for the pirating community compared to their previous products, so good progress). Regardless, people will always find a way. What difference does it make pointing this guy out, besides his stupidity for making his actions obvious? The most he'll get is his channel removed. What about the millions of other people who will continue unhindered? It's a losing battle and I'm sure PMDG don't have the money or the time to persue it much like every other company. Drawing attention to it only worsens the problem.
  8. Hmm. I often see no fan, but only in the select aircraft screen. Once I have slected the plane and it's loaded in the main window the fan is back. There's also other parts of the model that dissapear in the select aircraft screen. I believe it has something to do with Highmemfix in the CFG? I could be totally wrong on that. Either way I've never had to exit the sim, the fans and everything else have been there when it's loaded. I beleive only once I've seen it missing in the actual game when I start a flight. Maybe it's more common for others. Also you created two topics it seems.
  9. Thanks alot for this info! That must be exactly what I was doing. I was recording the NGX and since I don't have EZDock or TIR I was switching views a lot. Does this mean switching for example from Virtual Cockpit to Overhead would stop recording? Or only from VC to External to Overwing etc? I don't understand why the recording stops when that happens though. I know that the button to start/stop/save a manual recording are all the same, is there no way to have a start/stop button and a seperate save button?
  10. Interesting about external view. This could be the problem I was having where it was outputting multiple seperate videos, as if it had stopped recording, rather than record for the full time until I stopped it manually. I did switch to external view multiple times, and it does seem like whatever was recorded after changing views is missing. Quite strange as the default change view key doesn't pose any conflict with shadowplay's recording hotkeys. I wonder if this is specific to the NGX since nobody else seems to have issues here. In regards to some sounds missing, I know the NGX specifically uses a number of external sounds outside the sim, and ShadowPlay is currently only able to record one input channel, that being in-game.
  11. This is the exact problem I'm having. I wanted to record a takeoff in the NGX just to see how it looked. I pressed Alt+F9 after setting up to start the Manual Recording mode. I then did the takeoff and after about 5 mins in the air I pressed Alt+F9 again to stop manual recording, and then once again to save it. However, when I go to the folder I see multiple videos, the longest only being just over 1 minute even though I was recording for at least 5 minutes, the others were as little as 1 second. It's very strange, I haven't tried saving just the shadow video yet as I wanted to do it manually. Is anyone else having this problem? And is it only a problem with manual recording? I will try other games and see if it's just FSX cuasing issues with saving. Otherwise this is a great thing from Nvidia.
  12. It could be that in your FSX.cfg file you have the "TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD" set to 1024, which is the default setting of FSX. In order to get HD textures higher than 1024x1024 you have to change this setting manually to 4096. I believe REX does this, however if you change your display settings in FSX afterwards the setting will be reverted to the default of 1024. There is a program available here on Avsim called 'Texture Max Load Editor' which is able to prevent FSX changing back to 1024. There is definately a visual and performance difference, the clouds are very sharp and detailed under 4096, although any of the REX HD settings look great; higher settings just use more performance whilst only providing more details up close. I've actually found that 4096 clouds perform better on my system but obviously the impact will vary significantly.
  13. They're definately in there. The mission mentioned above where you have to find a group of missing elephants which was one of my first experiences in FSX, there's another in the Acceleration Pack I believe where you fly a helicopter somewhere in Kenya and there's Giraffes, and there's the Hawaiian mission where at one point you go Whale spotting. You also see birds around thermals depending on your settings. I have no idea if they can be found outside of these missions since I've never revisited the areas, but my guess is no unless you have scenery which includes it. It's really nothing special obviously, and I think they could actually have made better use of them what with full road traffic and boats, but as performance is tight enough already I think we should thank them for not simulating the animal kingdom lol.
  14. Most POSKY downloads on Avsim and other websites already have the correct models included in the file, so each seperate Model Package isn't necessary. It's provided for those who actually require the base model for their own repaint packages etc. Winglet models have no VC, they have a wingview instead. The VC noted by POSKY was designed for FS9. An eyebrow is a small window on the upper sides above the windshield which some older 737's have. However, most downloads officially released by POSKY are in FS9 format, unless you find some which have been converted to FSX here on Avsim, of which I'm sure there's plenty. If you want to use a FSX VC in a FS9 POSKY model, you must first download the FSX-updated base Model Packages, and replace each model, for each aircraft you have, with the updated version. This is where the different Model Packages come into play and make things confusing, because you must replace each model file with the correct one - for example you cannot replace a No-Eyebrow model with an Eyebrow & Winglet model because the texture files won't work. So I reccommend you just search for versions which have already been converted to FSX with a VC included, 'cause doing it all manually is a real pain. Nevertheless, here is a tutorial on merging the FSX 737 VC with a POSKY 737: Link
