How to take the dome light off auto

Featured Replies

I hate how the dome turns on automatically at dusk when it turns to night. Its happened a few times on final and really distracted me. How can I disable it? Looked thru the FMC options and turned cabin lights to manual thinking that would fix it but it doesnt. Cant locate any other setting.

It was an accident. The first time I pressed post it said server unavailable, so I pushed post one more time. Not sure why it posted so many times.

So you know how to set it off auto?

yeah, use the actual knob...

No kidding, I know how to turn it off, I am looking for a way to keep it from turning on automatically. When it comes on the switch stays off, so I have to turn it on then off.

There is no auto for the dome light. The light is on when the switch is on but you just don't really see it while FSX is using the daytime textures. When it transitions to the dusk textures there will be one stage where the light will become way more apparent. This happens to a much worse degree with some of the other addons I have. It's just the way FSX works so if you don't want the dome light on you'll have to turn it off with the knob just like in the real plane.

How can I disable it

Do you have the "pilot controls aircraft lights" option checked in your generic FSX options?

I do think there is this "kind of auto" with the master knob - I supposed that this was the problem.

The master bright doesn't control the dome. Also, it's for adjusting a gang of brightness of displays and backlighting, not any kind of "auto" operation.

Yes, its set like that.

Ok, maybe I didnt explain correctly. If I start a flight at dusk the dome/flood light is turned off at the switch and the illumination is not present.

Then at a certain time when FSX decides its night time all of the sudden the VC lights up with complete illumination. The dome light switch is still in the off position and I have to cycle it on and off to get the VC dim again.

You can imagine how distracting it is when your on final and have the VC lights dimmed then all of the sudden the VC lights up by itself. The NGX does not do this, hence the reason I want to turn this feature off.

I did a search and see that someone else asked the same question back in Sept but no one replied.

My dome light has two positions, but only the first detent seems to work.  What does the second position do?

With the engines shut down the dome light only seems to come on at the lower brightness even if the knob it turned all the way bright. When an engine is running the second detent on the dome light switch will make the light brighter. I can't remember the specific FSX limitation but in the MD-11 the dome light wouldn't even come on until an engine was running. I'm assuming this is a version of the same limitation we are seeing in the 777

Mine T7 does this also and its annoying as Jim said when you're flying along and all of the sudden at a magic time when FSX decides its too dark outside the dome light suddenly pops on.

I noticed in one of the FMC menus there is a setting for Cockpit Floods in daytime on/off and tried setting it to off but the dome still turns on by itself when it gets dark enough.

Like someone else mentioned, the NGX does not turn on any VC lights unless the pilot turns them on themselves. I would like it if we had that same option in the T7.

I am thinking about submitting a ticket on this one since there have been no fixes brought to light on this subject.

I honestly don't think it's something in the 777.  As someone who spent hundred of hours in the beta, and several hours thereafter, to include a flight that transitioned from darkness to daylight and back to darkness - I have never seen this behavior.

Likewise. Never seen it but prob no where near as many hours as Kyle.....
