November 26, 201312 yr I had just opened a topic in the hardware topic asking about the importance of VRAM when I came across this discussion on graphics cards. The Titan has 6 GB of VRAM, which is double the amount of the 780/780Ti. However, in some benchmarks that I have read the 780Ti performs faster than the Titan. I am wondering if the additional VRAM outweighs the (significant) extra cost for the Titan. The 780 might indeed be interesting as well from a cost perspective.. I have no idea what to do  I am also playing on 1920 x 1080, but I may be upgrading my monitor next year or so if the impact of GSync is a bit more clear. You can find the topic I opened here: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/427200-importance-of-vram-p3d-v2/#entry2861268 So I guess the question is, does P3D take more advantage of the memory or the speed? November 26, 201312 yr So I guess the question is, does P3D take more advantage of the memory or the speed? Exactly, hope that someone will be able to answer that question in the not too distant future ^_^ Best regards, Alexander Rietveld
November 26, 201312 yr What about the 4GB RAM of the R9 290/x cards? They run hot at the moment but cards with more fans and better coolers shall come out in a couple of days. So did anybody try a AMD card so far? November 26, 201312 yr Commercial Member The AA provided in P3D is nowhere near the quality of 8xS with 2xSGSS in FSX via inspector. The AA in P3D is 'FXAA' at 8xMSAA max. It just doesnt cut it for clear gauges etc at least not IMHO. Early days yet though..... Have you checked the option to generate mipmaps in VC? This greatly improves gauges clarity, much like supersampling in FSX. Technically, FXAA and MSAA are separate options. You can have one of them, or both. I think you can enable SGSS in P3D with inspector, you just have to create your own profile for the program, or add the executable to existing profile. You can't force supersampling in DX10 or DX11 at the driver level. Michael A2A Simulations
November 26, 201312 yr Anyone notice popup autogen or blurries after FTXG was installed. I think I jumped the gun installing FTXG seemed a little smoother with default scenery ( but who wants default scenery ) Stephen Asus Z170 Deluxe, 32 GB DDR4 Dominator Platinum, i7 6700k mild overclock, GTX Titan ( Pascal ) Win10
November 26, 201312 yr I have massive autogen popping with a clean install, so I really don't understand how someone is not seeing it? I have only been flying patterns with the default flight, and houses are popping up in the distance just like they did in FSX/P3D1. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

I have only been flying patterns with the default flight, and houses are popping up in the distance just like they did in FSX/P3D1. I get a lot of popping also, especially noticeable when you are at an altitude 5000+. It doesn't seem to pop near the aircraft ala FSX, but at the LOD boundaries. This wouldn't be such an issue if the autogen alpha faded as I was led to believe it would in V2. Daz
November 26, 201312 yr Yep, it happens at altitude, so we'll either have to buzz treetops or go skyhigh to avoid it. I'd call it an improvement, but not as significant as I had hoped for. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

Yes it is an improvement, but where is the 'alpha fade' that has been mentioned on many occasions? Maybe it didn't make it to the release version.
November 26, 201312 yr Commercial Member I was at FL600 earlier, pushing about M1.44 in the F22, no popping to report (at least none I could see anyway..) Jereon, I couldn't recommend the 780 more. One helluva card. To give you an idea: I've maxed out everything I possibly can in the settings, except buildings and trees casting shadows. No AI aircraft, 15% road traffic. I haven't seen a drop below 20 at KJFK in some not-so-nice weather. At the default airport w/ default weather I'm at about 40-50fps in the VC of the F22. No tearing either. Aamir Thacker
November 26, 201312 yr I was at FL600 earlier, pushing about M1.44 in the F22, no popping to report (at least none I could see anyway..) At that altitude, there is no autogen shown at all. Not sure what the cutoff point is though.
November 26, 201312 yr I'd be happy to share experiences on a reference AMD R9 290X, but I'm not home until Saturday. If there's no one else out there who has tested with an R9 290(X) by then I'll report back.
November 26, 201312 yr Installing FTX Global gave me MASSIVE tree pop-ups.. Suddenly there's only a few trees, to the entire field being covered with them. Wish i could record this to show you guys.. It's completely broken.
November 26, 201312 yr Commercial Member At that altitude, there is no autogen shown at all. Not sure what the cutoff point is though. I was flying over a skyscraper infested area, fairly sure I saw 'em, could be wrong though. I went back and redid the test, but at treetop height. No popping to report 9/10 times. Only get popping right after a +9G 180-degree turn, lasts for about 30 seconds then it catches up and all is well. Aamir Thacker
November 26, 201312 yr except buildings and trees casting shadows Thanks for the info. Funnily enough I was mainly thinking about upgrading to a GTX780 because I want those buildings and trees shadows LOL…! What happens if you turn them on? Fps drops a lot or a little?
