First long-haul on VATSIM. Did not end well. DX10 time!

So I fixed both airports now (head over to Steve's fixer forum to see how if you have the same problem)! ^_^ I just took couple of screenshots flying out of OMDB... I can't really describe how amazingly looking and smooth (~30fps on the ground in VC) my FSX is now!

QnvDiwh.jpg

I just posted this over at the DX10 fixer forum but I want to post it also here just to show you my progress on switching from DX9 to DX10 and running PMDG 777. I gotta say this is far the best thing that happened to my FSX in a long time (followed very closely by Active Sky Next). You can take a look at the screenshots (no editing, just raw from the sim.) I just took in Dubai: http://imgur.com/a/hhl0c - What's most impresive is the smoothness of FSX now. No shutters at all (40+ fps over Dubai city in virtual cockpit).. Although you can see the anti-aliasing being little weak on the edges (running 8x CSAA at this moment and I'm not really sure if I want to push in even higher).

It's crazy how much you can push the sim even on mid-high computer that I'm running my FSX on..

All I need to test now is flying long-hauls on VATSIM (EGKK-OMDB) and see if DX10 will eliminate the OOM error I got during my first long-haul flight on VATSIM.. This is key but I'm very positive! I will definitely follow up more on this. Thanks to everyone for the feedback. DX10 got it's bumps for sure but it is a magical thing indeed.

Merry Christmas!

Congratulations Marek!

Great to read that OOM's belong to the past now in Your sim as well!

Enjoy flying around into the DX10 FSX skies!

Yeah! Give it a go! If you need a help with something or need to resolve any issues, let us know in the Steve's DX10 fixer sub-forum.

I'd love if you could post your results here after your switch from DX9 to DX10.

Congratulations Marek!

Hehe, I did not test the OOMs just yet. I really need to find some time to fly with all the Vatsim traffic on a long-haul.. but I think I'll be ok with DX10.  B)

... indeed: FSX is still 32bit, but let's remain confident!

It's show time! I'm on my way from Gatwick to Dubai (on VATSIM, as BAW54M) right now. If I'll make it without OOM then mission accomplished!

btw. flying out of EGKK was a real challenge with the wind gusts and turbulence.. I really recommend flying out of EGKK right now if you have Active Sky Next.. crazy ride.. and I gotta say ASNext clouds are real frame killer.. definitely not as smooth as flying out of clear skies Dubai.. :)

DX10 is wonderful! But it does have a downside in my case..; every time I fly with DX10 on longer than 5-6 hours I get a CTD with AppCrashView saying it was from BEX and StackHash_27eb. Not really sure what that means but I can't really find anything on the internet and I've been tinkering with it for a while still with no luck. I have been thinking about buying Steve's DX10 Fixer but I wouldn't want to spend something on a product that won't resolve my BEX CTD issues. If you can find me a solution I'll never go back from DX10   ^_^

READ THE MANUALS.

Go for it Mark, you'll never look back!  Looking forward to reading about your progress.

Well I for one do not like DX10 at all. Too buggy with add-on airports and it performs worse than DX9. It only performs better compared to a default DX9 config.

So I just flown the final DX10 test. EGKK -> OMDB (over 6 hours). UK2000 and FlyTampa scenery, AS Next, PMDG 777, VATSIM traffic and 2048 textures to top it off - Did not get OOM () crash in Dubai like before with DX9 and as a bonus.. smooth 30fps in VC all the way to the ground in Dubai! Not a single graphic glitch on the way. You know... I'm really happy right now.

I agree that Steve's DX10 fixer is about the best thing that's happened to FSX in years. For the first time I am flying the 777 on vatsim to wherever I want with my sliders turned up a notch on VATSIM/ Activesky/REX/FTX global and its smooth and rock solid every time. OOMs are still possible but I would really have to try such as messing around with external views and using walk and follow for a eye level tour of downtown aerosoft new york with fsdt loaded. This wouldn't be possible before.

I have though moved all my external programs to networked PCs and only load my frequently used airports

thoroughly recommended

Superb!

Well then: Many more hours of great flying under DX10 now Mark!

I'm glad you're enjoying DX10!

I'm doing pretty okay with DX9 for now. Can't spare the extra kip for the "DX10 Fixer", so I'm gonna just gonna jump ahead to DX11 w/ P3Dv2. In the meanwhile, I've been enjoying 30 frames at FlightBeam's KIAD with the T7 and uneventful 14+ hour flights, so I'm relatively happy with my experience.

Now if I could just sort out my door issue so I can fly again  :(

That's really cool that you can pull this off under DX9! So you are running two (arrival and departure) complex add-on airports, 777 + some global scenery addon like FTX's Global? REX or Active Sky in there too?

FTXG, ASN, ENB.

Unfortunately, no, I'm not running both the arrival and departure airports. My current payware addons aren't extensive enough (yet). I soon will be though, going Christmas shopping ;)

I usually land at a complex payware airport.

Hi Thoriq,

There is a post in the CTD forum.  It might help you to resolve the issue you are having.  Good luck!
