December 18, 201312 yr Author Actually, I have had to stop using FRAPS. All the lucky people with GTX650s and higher Nvidia cards should be good with the new GPU-accelerated Nvidia Shadowplay.. I bet the fps hit is waaaay lower (maybe none?) than with FRAPS.. but I'm running little off topic here Marek Veselý | Twitter: @marekvesely Director Of Photography | Film editor British Airways service on VATSIM: My profile
December 18, 201312 yr Well you cant deactivate aircraft like scenerys but they do contribute to the overall VAS. I did a flight in the NGX with OOM and a testflight without any other aircraft installed and i did not get the OOM in same scenario, This is offcause a flat statement because other parametres could have influenced it but think about it Thank You very much for Your reply Michael! The surprising thing for me now is, that since i have switched to DX10 i have added PMDG's great 777, Flight1's wonderful B200, A2A's superb 172 and Orbx's nice little RV-4 into my - already before - pretty loaden virtual hangar - but(!) - i have never ever run into an OOM since my jump to DX10. I therefore think that it may require some more trials and errors to figure out a specific pattern in regards to OOM's and the number of aircrafts installed into FSX. Sure: Every module, every plug in or whatever, loaded into the sim may require some VAS - but the question is if and in how far this VAS load then really matters to an actual and specific flight with one aircraft in the sim. Again: So far i have not encountered or noticed any troubles around OOM's and a higher VAS useage due to a broadening FSX-hangar, but that's only here on my PC and may not be so at anyone else's system and i may therefore stand corrected anytime! Cheers, Christoph Enjoy flying and happy landings.

December 18, 201312 yr I am genuinely baffled by the "DX10 looks better than DX9 in FSX" comments that appear now and again. I have used the DX10 Fixer, and the graphics on my PC look better in DX9 mode. I have used the DX10 Fixer, and the graphics on my PC look better in DX9 mode. Hi Christopher! Can't say if DX10 looks better or worse than DX9 and don't remember ever having said so - but - from my current point of view at least i'd now say that in regards to visuals my PC's DX10 set up looks pretty much the same as my DX9 set up used to look like - mainly due to the fact i think, that i used some ENB mod back then and SweetFx now. Okay, i have to admit that AA may not be as good as under DX9, but if tuned properly the difference in regards to visuals (and this includes AA here) at least is really almost "zero" between DX10 and DX9. In regards to performance though all this might be different. Some users report that FPS are not as "good" in DX10 as they are under DX9, but as i have pointed out in one of my previous posts here (sorry, that i am repeating myself here now): Flying under DX10 "feels" or appears to be way more "smoother" than it used to be under DX9. There is much less stuttering under DX10 and FPS - although sometimes lower than under DX9 - remain within a certain margin and therfore it - again saying - all appears to be "smoother" somehow under DX10. But these are only my two cents here now and others may see all that compltely different. In regards to "greater stability" and especially when it comes down to OOM's though, i still dare to say that DX10 is a great option really worth being considered if OOM's should be avoided! Cheers, Christoph Enjoy flying and happy landings.
December 18, 201312 yr I can't argue with that, Christoph! The DX10 Fixer definitely does reduce the chances of an OOM. December 18, 201312 yr Doesn't look like the Lockheed Martin product is ready for prime time... I feel the same, but the chance of PMDG going into P3D with current LM's licensing at this point is really small.. as far as I heard. With the development around the DX10 fixer (huge kudos to Steve!!), I feel like we are still able to push 32bit FSX even little further into the future..EDIT: I take the PMDG part back. I totally forgot about the update from PMDG about their P3D releases. It's coming!read it here: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/426978-pmdgs-p3d-development-status-fact-thread-updated-25nov13/
December 18, 201312 yr Hi Guys , I would be interested into trying this fix but i have some questions that are not clear. First of all i read that the PMDG 77L and fly tampas dubai reboot v2 do not work with this fix above allat night there are some problems with textures. Another question is once i aplly the fix if i wanna revert back to DX9 should i disinstall the fix or i can just disable the DX10 preview in FSX? Thanks Alfredo Russo

I bet the fps hit is waaaay lower (maybe none?) than with FRAPS.. but I'm running little off topic here I've tried Shadowplay and the FPS hit isn't much at all. The only problem from my end is that FSRecorder seems to conflict with EZDok and so I have to pick one or the other to use, and I'm not getting rid of EZDok just to make videos.
December 18, 201312 yr DX10 has certainly fixed my OOM error's, the only CTD that remained was fixed when I removed an MS Update KB2670838 (d3d11.dll & Stackhash errors). My only gripe is running with a 6.5 LOD which I think is causing the occasional black terrain and cloud square when changing views, otherwise FSX runs extremely smooth with frames unlimited. \Robert Hamlich/
December 18, 201312 yr I can't argue with that, Christoph! The DX10 Fixer definitely does reduce the chances of an OOM. Hi Christopher! I am also pretty sure it does, and fully second that. Besides this fact sure though: Other things such as performance and visuals will most certainly remain open for further discussions and will most likely never be perfect for everyone - what some like, others may not like - fully okay and nothing wrong with that. From my personal experience so far though i can just say that - and again only my personal thoughts here - the very little compromise in regards to AA compared to what i have gained due to DX10 was really worth to switch from DX9 to DX10. Cheers, Christoph Hi Guys , I would be interested into trying this fix but i have some questions that are not clear. Another question is once i aplly the fix if i wanna revert back to DX9 should i disinstall the fix or i can just disable the DX10 preview in FSX? Thanks Hi Alfredo! I can assure You that the DX10 fix works super perfect with PMDG's 777! I will also check out FT's Dubai again, but i am pretty sure this also works perfectly by now with the latest release of Steve's DX10 fix. Cheers, Christoph P.S.: Not sure if it is okay to post screenshots here - if not then admins please feel free to either delete or move this screenies elsewhere, but i thought it okay to post these here now. Just quickly loaded up FSX and took the mighty PMDG 777 in the air from FT's Dubai with Steve's latest version of the DX10 fix in use to recheck the scenery - and now i can confirm: No issues at all at FT's OMDB. Enjoy flying and happy landings.
December 18, 201312 yr Author Thanks for the screenshots! Yep, I do know for sure that PMDG 777 and FT's Dubai works without a problem under DX10 and Steve's fixer. As for the installation and uninstallation question - I highly recommend reading through Steve's pdf manual for the fixer. It's all there - well written and documented. December 21, 201312 yr Author Alright I'm back after a single day with DX10! Before I go into any comments about performance I'd love to get out the bad stuff that I'm dealing with. I really really like FlyTampa's Vienna and Dubai. Both I can't get to work with DX10  ... that's why I'd to get this out so maybe someone who is using these airports with DX10 can help out. There is a problem in Dubai with ground textures... they seem to render in really low resolution - only during DAWN, DUSK and NIGHT. It all works well during the day. Any idea how I could fix this? Well... and in Vienna there is a whole runway lighting missing.. that is a bummer. I did a quick research around LOWW and DX10 and my hopes of fixing this are really low. Anyone flying into Vienna and DX10?UK2000 scenery works well without a problem btw.. I'd love to follow up with performance tests and all the good stuff but I gotta deal with this first. Thanks everyone! Marek Veselý | Twitter: @marekvesely Director Of Photography | Film editor British Airways service on VATSIM: My profile
December 22, 201312 yr Author Quick update to my situation.. I got the FT's Vienna LOWW 100% working now. All the lights work now under DX10. I quickly snapped a picture this morning (800m visibility in Vienna atm):Btw. I'm getting close to 30 fps on these complex add-on airports (UK2000 EGKK, Vienna, Dubai) inside 777's virtual cockpit! 45 FPS in the outside view. That's pretty awesome if you ask me.. Now, the only thing that bugs me (before I start testing the OOM errors) is the texture problem in Dubai (see my post above). I see that it works really well for others (like Wolke85 in the post above mine) so I'm positive that we can figure this out. After I get OMDB to work 100% I'll move onto testing the out of memory errors.. Oh, and I saw a different topic here about the dome lights not working in 777 VC and DX10 - I can say that all the aircraft lighting works without a problem for me!This looks very promising! December 22, 201312 yr Hi Marek! Do You have the latest version of the DX10 fixer (1.29) installed? http://forum.avsim.net/topic/423397-announcements-v12-build-29-now-available-for-download/ If not please get it from Your FSS account and install it as described here: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/423381-updating-to-a-new-release-flight-sim-store/ Furthermore please check out this info at various forumthreads at FlyTampa and most important of all: Install the latest update files for OMDB which are available here: http://www.flytampa.org/downloads.html and - just in case neede - maybe read through this threads here: http://www.flytampa.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=6399 and here http://www.flytampa.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=6364 Again – these threads only need to be read if updating OMDB and the updating the DX10 fix did not help – but i think it will! I have seen that You have also already asked at the DX10 support forum here at AVSIM – that's a good idea and i think this is the best place to go from now on – and i am sure that all problems will be solved soon! Cheers, Christoph Enjoy flying and happy landings.
