February 16, 201412 yr Can someone Please confirm this? Yes. This is correct. I've asked this question myself before I made the switch to ASN. Opus cameras only react to their own weather. Regards, Kevin LaMal "Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings" - Shapiro2024
February 16, 201412 yr Using FSGRW as it simulates turbulence the best (tried opus and ASN). ASN turbulence is very artificial, Opus is just poor. FSGRW is a very easy interface to use too. It's not always just about weather depictions. -Iain Watson-
February 16, 201412 yr Fly over your house then, and then pause, do as above, look out the window and.....Will not be a valid test for comparing real weather depiction. Unless your house happens to have a weather reporting station, that the NOAA is using for creating METARs for your local area. Just saying because, I happen to live near an international airport. The reported METAR and what can be seen out of the window, only seldom matches (during the whole period that the METAR is valid). February 16, 201412 yr Just saying because, I happen to live near an international airport. The reported METAR and what can be seen out of the window, only seldom matches (during the whole period that the METAR is valid). Hmmm... So which one is more accurate? The view out the window or the depiction from the weather engine in FSX? I mean, if neither matches the METAR... Yesterday over my house it was about 7/8 overcast over the entire sky in all directions as far as I could see. ASN reported clear skies in all METARS. I checked the METARS reported on Skyvector.com and THEY showed clear everywhere. Obviously, what I was seeing out my window wasn't realistic! I've got a worse one from yesterday too. Angoon (AGN) Alaska's METAR reported the temperature as " 51/ " instead of 05/01. Later the number was more reasonable, with the proper leading zeros. ASN reported the METAR as " 41/ " ( a bit older data) and interpreted it as 41C, filling in the dew point from surrounding stations. Nearby temperatures were skewed upward quite a bit. Thanks for posting that, Jarkko. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
February 16, 201412 yr I almost bought OPUS FSX,however when I saw the features that come with Active Sky Next I was floored then I tried the free 7 day full trial version and I was sold. I believe ASN to be the best WX engine ever designed for home use flight simulation. Just to add that ASN's free trial has NOTHING blocked its as if you bought the product, and it can be updated just like as if you bought the product. The only 2 things you need to use the 7 day trial are a valid E-Mail and your IP address and that's it. Click here to download the FREE 7 day trial and find out for yourself what other simmers are taking about: http://www.hifitechinc.com/Downloads
February 16, 201412 yr I have both, but I've settled on using ASN for now. If you look at the Opus forum here the developers have made some interesting comments with reference to other weather engines and their developers that I think are unprofessional, unnecessary and have left a bad taste in my mouth. February 16, 201412 yr I've found this topic both comical and informative At the end of the day it's what the individual prefers in my opinion Currently I have and use Opus with Rex E+ textures and I'm very happy with that, I also use the Opus cameras as I don't have ezdok I must admit I quite like the idea of choosing an area of bad weather and flying it, and as mentioned the Opus turbulence is not the best but not worth the for me, the additional purchases required to try something else . However what I did find interesting was posts 48 and 49 as I had similar experiences when I first bought Opus.I also live approx. 3miles as the crow flies from an international airport and have found that the metar report to the actual cloud cover different ,I'm not a meteorologist but again as cloud formation is dynamic and can change quickly, I don't know what discrepancies meteoroligists are allowed when creating a new report, but I guess it also might have opinionated choices eg day shift guy thinks cloud cover is 3 afternoon guy thinks it 4 so who is right? at the end of the day he/she's the one making the report and every weather injection program that uses it is then subject to their opinion I don't think it will ever be exactly what you see out your window is what you would see going over your house at 3000ft with the current tech avail I just have to accept that,and enjoy what I have Just as a side,since I started this message in the last 20mins the cloud cover has gone from a 2/8 to 5/8 now if there has not been a new metar issued yet then your weather engine is going to show the look of the sky wrong ,it doesn't matter what program you would be using rgds Pete Little
