January 14, 201412 yr Just wondering if people are running the latest Nvidia drivers and how they're working on FSX? Especially on older cards if possible. I updated to the 320.49's that came out in July and was getting weird pauses/freezes in the sim constantly. Instead of rolling back to the much older driver I had been running, I read the 314.22's were considered really good for FSX so I moved to those and things have been fine. As some of the other stuff I play gets updated (WoW, SWTOR, etc.) I'm worried I might run into needing a newer driver though. After the experience with the 320.49's I'm hesitant to upgrade again. I've never had problems like that with a driver before, but then FSX is 8 years old now. January 14, 201412 yr I never had problems with the drivers, I have 332.21 and (at least for me) are working fine. In FSX is not very noticeable a change, but for games like Metro 2033 sometimes have an improvement in FPS (In FSX a little little more smoothness) Walter Almaraz
January 14, 201412 yr I've got a 560ti aswell, and am not running the latest drivers (331.4) due to various issues involving cursor and hanging. Currently on v285.62 (has fixed all the cursor issues), but I might try updating to 314.22 as you say it works well for FSX. edit: It seems NVIDIA released a new driver a few days ago, 332.21, so I might try that one. If I do, I'll report back. "If you can't solve and equation with calculus, you're not using enough calculus" - A wise friend
January 14, 201412 yr When you guys/gals change your video drivers, do you remove the old ones? I was taught by Michael Greenblatt (god rest his soul) to remove the old drivers a special way which entailed a lengthy process. Ric Elmore
January 14, 201412 yr I've always liked to stick with drivers that came out when my card was top (GTX570). But lately I've been forced to always have the latest drivers because BF4 won't work hehe. So far they seem fine with FSX. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
January 14, 201412 yr Author When you guys/gals change your video drivers, do you remove the old ones? I was taught by Michael Greenblatt (god rest his soul) to remove the old drivers a special way which entailed a lengthy process. It's gotten a lot better with the newer generation of Nvidia drivers. Here seems to be the current recommendations over on EVGA http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=1776353#1776355 . I used to use these older instructions http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=1174372 from the same guy that had you uninstall things first and reboot before installing new. That was on the older 2xx.xx series though. I've still been following that but will probably try the newer way next time. January 14, 201412 yr In the past few years Ive NEVER had an issue with doing a simple clean install with the Nvidia driver setup. Even when swapping cards from my 580 to the 770. You WILL find there are differences in image quality in FSX and which ones work best for your setup may not be the same as others.. Some drivers run great and look alright, and some drivers look great and run alright.. You have to try them out and see.. I'm with ryanbatcund and go with the newest for BF4 and hope they work well in FSX. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
January 14, 201412 yr When I was having problems, I uninstalled the drivers via the control panel uninstall programs menu, as the NVIDIA installer wouldn't overwrite the newer driver with an older one. That was a bit of a special case though, normally I would just install the new one over the top of the old. I will try the newest drivers and report how it goes. January 14, 201412 yr I used to uninstall through the control panel and use Driver Sweeper in safe mode to get all the remaining bits. My understanding is this process is not necessary with the newer installers. You can uninstall in the control panel, reboot and install the new ones. I am using the 331.82's on a GTX285 and they seem to be working well MSFS Premium Deluxe Edition; Windows 11 Pro, I9-9900k; Asus Maximus XI Hero; Asus TUF RTX3080TI; 32GB G.Skill Ripjaw DDR4 3600; 2X Samsung 1TB 970EVO; NZXT Kraken X63; Seasonic Prime PX-1000, LG 48" C1 Series OLED, Honeycomb Yoke & TQ, CH Rudder Pedals, Logitech G13 Gamepad

January 15, 201412 yr Running their latest & greatest 332.21's here on a Gigabyte GTX560Ti with no problems whatsoever. I always do a clean install through Nvidia's set-up but I don't install the 3D parts of the drivers since I don't have/use 3D. FSX seems fine with these as does BF3. I recommend updating to these drivers. jime James D. Edwards

I followed the new instructions in that link I posted above to EVGA this time. Looks like "clean install" it actually removed the old PhysX, profiles, and base driver first before installing the new one. January 16, 201412 yr Author Also updated to 332.21 about an hour ago, so far so good. Lets hope it stays that way. Yep just confirmed, 332.21 is working well for me. None of the weird "pausing" I was getting last summer with those 320.49's. I've been hesitant to upgrade since, but glad I did. January 24, 201412 yr Charles, Whe you say "pausing", what do you mean? I am currently suffering from what I would call "hard" stutters at airports with lots of AI planes. These occur roughly once per second, and are a PITA. I upgraded to the new 332.21 drivers recently, but if anything the problem is slightly worse! I am reasonably sure that this problem was not present several months ago, and I am seriosuly considering rolling back to an earlier set of Nvidia drivers (maybe even as far back as the 280s). Something has definitely happened within the past six months to cause this problem, but I am at a loss as to what to do. I also wondered if it had anything to do with Steve's DX10 Scenery Fixer, since it started around the time that I installed this (as far as I can remember). I have since uninstalled it (because FSX looks better on my PC in DX9 mode with REX active), but these problems are still there. I also installed my first ORBx region around that time (FTX Northern Ireland), but I am probably just throwing ideas about wildly in the dark here. I just wish that I could solve the problem, because it seriously affects my enjoyment of FSX :( Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
