January 20, 201412 yr Oh, Uplay isn't TOO bad - Origin is what kills me. Really? It's kind of the opposite for me. Even the theme song for AOE puts a smile on my face  I had AOM... I wish they would remake it in HD too... It'd be the best thing in the world! The music in that game was absolutely amazing. January 20, 201412 yr Uh! Not another Microsoft OS on the horizon! Its like Xmas coming to soon, or an inevitable funeral I'm a PC repair tech who regaulrly has to sort out Microsoft's botched Vista. Lets hope Windows-9 isn't anything like Vista, or the deformed Windows-8 with its none-windows Metro interface, and its 45-minute boot-up time 'updating' problem, plus its many other glitches that make it a pig to repair. Useful free utility that brings back a little sanity to Windows-8 http://www.classicshell.net/ Evolution?
January 20, 201412 yr I'm a PC repair tech who regaulrly has to sort out Microsoft's botched Vista. Lets hope Windows-9 isn't anything like Vista Am I the only one that liked Vista? People complained about it because their computers were from the XP-era (i.e., crap). If you had a capable/modern system, it actually ran very well and was a major improvement to XP. It looked nicer, was more modern, and was great for gaming. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
January 20, 201412 yr Am I the only one that liked Vista? Afraid so... Here I am, holding on to XP (I have a totally vanilla SP3 on a HDD which has never seen the internet and all its bulbous "updates") for the sole purpose of running FS2004. Fantastic flightsimming experience, all the bugs long gone, I can tweak to heart's content on how it looks if I want. Heck, I have THREE FS2004 sims on the same computer, all quite different. How long has there been a 64-bit OS for PC? And why didn't MS build a Sim for it??
January 20, 201412 yr I bought a Surface Pro which has an I5 cpu with a complete version of windows 8.1 professional on it, I really like it except for the advertising I am really getting tired of these multibillion dollar, make money hand over fist corporation's, monetizing us. I use to be someone who would stay up to date, buying the latest version's of software and now I find myself very very cynical. Floyd Stolle www.stollco.com

FS2004 runs fine on Windows 7 as far as I've found. I believe I've even run it on 8 before as a test. Brandon Filer

January 20, 201412 yr Am I the only one that liked Vista? If you had a capable/modern system, it actually ran very well I actually have a 5-year-old Vista laptop that I got from a customer years ago and it runs not bad with its 4 gb of ram. But Vista is basically underpowered and prone to be ultra sluggish at the drop of a hat. Microsoft did, after all, put their hands up and say: 'We got this one wrong'. There's nothing more soul-destroying than having to repair a customer's old underpowered Vista laptop that has viruses and is so very very very slow. By comparison I'm always amazed at how fast most XP machines are on roughly just 1gb ram, and XP is so simple to use and repair. It brings a smile to my face when I work on them. But as we know, XP is just about obselete . RiP. .
January 20, 201412 yr FS2004 runs fine on Windows 7Yes I was rather approaching it from the point of view of "Don't fix it if it ain't broke".I wouldn't install WIN7 to run FS2004. I fell off the Wintel cost spiral years ago (See my PC Signature) and have a totally satisfactory desktop computing experience. Of course, I could then use the savings to buy all those "Mobile toys" demanded of the 21st century citizen...
January 20, 201412 yr All kinds of advertising as an example if I hit the weather button, I get ads for 3 or 4 local ski resorts. I don't mind advertising to support free services etc. but the last thing window's is... is free. Floyd Stolle www.stollco.com
January 20, 201412 yr Once upon a time a new windows announcement would have filled me with curiosity and anticipation. Now I just thought "Eh." We are all connected..... January 20, 201412 yr It used to be two types of computers on the market, Apple vs Microsoft. With Apple you had a complete package with very little customizing. With Microsoft you had lots of customizing which was perfect for the Programmers, 3D Modelers, Hobbyists, Flight Sim Enthusiast….etc Today if Microsoft wants to be more like Apple then I don’t see the point in it anymore. I’ll just buy an Apple instead (and I already have been). I did beta test Windows 8, didn’t like it, the boxes are ugly and lack any creativity or imagination and I was pushing it back into Windows 7 functionality the best I could. Truth is for FSX I want a bunch of icons in a desktop because I usually click a series of Icons before a flight to configure the third party apps for my FSX session….so Windows 8 is useless on an FSX machine for me. I will keep one machine in the house that is an I7 with Win7 running FSX/P3D and a few other Steam Games, other then that we are now up to 5 Apple machines in the household vs one ageing Microsoft PC that is now becoming a relic. 5 years ago it used to be 3 Microsoft PC’s in my household and the last Apple I owned was an Apple IIe. No wonder Apple is now the #1 brand in the world and Microsoft is slipping down the to bottom of the top 10….but I for one am happy about it as for the first time in 20 years I stopped buying PC junk to keep up with the latest in MSFS. January 21, 201412 yr Commercial Member I couldn't go back to Win7, seems everything from booting up and closing down takes ages. The fancy touch tile menu can be ignored, but in fact can be set up nicely to present your icon groups contained for programs used working together - not massively hugely great, but not bad. If you've not moved onto Win 8 yet, you've not been keeping up. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
