Quite right, Jon, and most appropriately named.

Except, #2 looks more like...sunrise.

I bet you have just one more up yer sleeve.

  • Well I am assuming the thread title is a typo! Nobody got beyond here as far as I know! Good idea for a thread, I happened to pop some screens while looking through aircraft for the Best Freeware A

  • What happened to this thread? I am more into moving pics with sound (not music) than stills now but hey let's see some pics.

  • Here's some old screenshots from around last year. Unfortunately, I go through FS phases due to real life commitments and I'm happy to report that I've been actively flying FS9 for the past few weeks

Beautiful sky colors Jon.

Thanks to Ian for the heads-up on the AI A400M.

Franfurt is one of the few places I "allow" military traffic into my civilian sim.

It's also one of my favourite AI spotting haunts as a result -  anything from An-225 to C-17 visits here.

And now, some A400 on early deployment, also.

This is what FS9 does best of all.

The last one in my King Air is from the sky set freeware that was on the other site. The Rayleigh effect one.

I missed that one, too ... they are all really lovely ...

Yeah we wish, for FS9...

I'm going to be mean and call you out on the reflection baseline: the front wheel can never reflect there!

I can't see the problem.

Awesome shots of the DC-10 Ed.  Really wish there was an updated model available with a good VC.

That's better, but still not authentic.

I've played with Squirlz (a lot) to try to figure out reflection geometry... the subject is only similar to the reflected image when very far away. As you get closer, you are looking at a completely different aspect of the subject, in the reflection.

I gave up the theory, and produced the Tiger Moth and Shaving Mirror reference:

aS604B.jpg

It's especially noticeable in the flat-angle left-hand trio: see how up close, the reflection shows the underside of the wing, and less so when moved further away.

Very far away, you might get away with simply inverting the main image, but not up close.

In the FS9-Everything thread, you learn the most amazing things...

Bad news... I hope all your FS9 toys can be salvaged.

I am hoping my WIN XP - based machine can stagger on until P3D 64-bit arrives, in which case I may look at it.

If not, would one be tempted to buy a hot 32-bit rig, and dip a toe into all the other sim flavours, whatever their issues?

Meantime, back in FS9land, I had one of those moments which are hard to convey, outside the sim.

Departing didn't seem much of an issue, a dependable helo, fully IFR equipped

But soon, ASE dished up a little weather inside the weather, I wondered if one could go for the blue skies above

It's fairly leisurely in a Squirrel, but then we popped up into the sunshine, and there was a definite feeling of relief...

'Course there was the matter of finding the distant Pyrennean rock I was aiming for, but that is a another matter.

WingZ, this is a very nice story as well as nice pictures. I know that feeling of relief... not only when breaking through the clouds but also after having mastered a crosswind landing in the Tu-134.

Ed, I wish you a quick return to flightsimming!
