Final Approach ATC Madness

Featured Replies

fsx does have great voices but from a functional perspective, voxatc and radar contact are infinitely better. for me, a more realistic voice that is telling me to do ridiculous things isn't very realistic at all.

voxatc also does ground handling fairly well, including holds before crossing runways and stuff like that. it isn't perfect, but is such an improvement over the default atc i would never go back. your experiences may differ of course! i believe there is a 7 day demo which may prove to be a superior introduction than just reading about it.

cheers

Deal. I am downloading demo right now. And I beg God that it won't be fun because spending 45 pounds is not a great deal to me after last few tough months when I decided to take my FSX to next level... :D

Another problem is, ATC tell you to hold short when there's a slow prop like 10 nm for approach, and then you have to wait for it to land, then unfortunately as it's so slow several others planes enter approach and you basically get no clearance until there's no plane approaching the runway. Seems AI has priority over you.

Once had to wait 40 mins at a hold short line in Munich... and got fuel warnings while descending in Moscow because of the fuel wasted.

Usually those darned Piper Cubs.  I think FSX, and even with Ultimate Traffic 2 controlling the AI traffic, grossly over uses the Piper Cub.  Second on the list is the Maule, I encounter lots of them in the FSX world, far more than I think would be encountered outside of an airshow in the real world.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

To the issue of AI traffic, like Ultimate Traffic2, does VoxATC recognize these planes?

If you have a problem with those small GA's, and flying heavy jets only. You could move away the folders for these GA's out of your aircraft folder and FSX won't load them :) At least, this is the case for FS9

Oh my...sorry but VOX ATC is not my deal at least not for that amount of money. I would stand that its interface looks worse than "snake" on my company Nokia C5, I could live with robotic voices, I would even deal with the confusing manual... but come on... I cannot hear the voices! no matter which one I choose they are not loud enough. Guess this SW is for people with speakers + headset - not my scenario...

TBH I would expect something more for 45 pounds. Great it has a demo - that would be a waste. I am an addon addict and  I probably spent more on my addons than some of them were worth but this one is overrated I suppose and just confirmed what I read about it. Has some nice features, still they don't justify this pricing.

Interesting addon which adds 100% immersion when you speak and kills 100% immersion when Robocop in ATC tower responds.

Anyway, thanks for suggestion. I don't give up early so I will try to dig for some voice packs tommorow and use my 1 week of demo but I guess that's it.

Back to square one. :(

if you double click on your windows volume (the little speaker icon) and hit the 'mixer' button, it breaks out all of the running apps with their own slider and you can adjust the voxpop server volume to your heart's content.

i do agree that the way it is setup by default they are difficult to hear, but i found a happy balance pretty easily by adjusting it.

volume level management among different apps is actually a huge issue on computers these days. there aren't really any standards, and the few ones that do exist (such as volume levels for film) aren't really enforced in any meaningful way.. it's quite frustrating from a user perspective. you see it a lot even just in fsx with some people saying for example 'the engines are too loud!' and others saying 'i can't hear the engines!' on the very same addon..  or for example, ASN's thunder startup sound is insanely loud compared to my fsx volume levels so i had to disable it after the second or third time i woke up my neighbors and jumped out of my chair :)

anyway cheers!

i use it with ut2, but just for the planes and liveries.....voxatc generates it's own traffic, which is partially why it is able to control it in a somewhat more realistic manner. there is a utility included with it called 'ut2bridge' which you run once and it will import the aircraft from ut2, and it does a pretty decent job of populating the airports with appropriate liveries.  if you're one of the folks who likes having real world ai schedules and stuff it's not going to use those, though.

IIRC VOXATC disables UT2 traffic and creates it's own...

One BIG reason I decided against VOXATC. I like the UT2 traffic timetables and realistic routes besides the fact that I paid for a program I'd like to use!

I'm in the same boat and have never used an ATC addon due to the negatives with each program...

Out of all of them the one I'd consider the most right now is PFE Deluxe with the regional voices!

Chris Camp

Thanks for your replies, I would not want to give up UT2 as well.

Will it save settings? I cannot do it every time because I am under win 8 where alt + tab from sim = joystick lost

i'm pretty sure they stick to whatever they were set at, i only really adjusted them one time... it's a windows thing, not an app thing, so maybe it is different in win8, not sure since i'm still on 7.

Radar Contact 4.3 just works perfectly, flight after flight.

The voices especially with the Meatwater soundpacks are good, much different in the sim when you have a lot going on than they sound in Youtube vids.

I use VAC to control it by voice which works out quite well once you have set up a profile for RC
