February 15, 201412 yr I was slightly amused yesterday when Gatwick ATC decided to let an Airbus slam into the back of me (Cessna) on ILS approach just before the threshold. Not the first time this kind of thing has happened either, my favourite landing has to be leapfrogging a 737 in another 737 200 feet up. Anyhoo I like to have traffic set on heavy for realism, but I assume this is a common problem. Any way to improve ATC/approach realism? Also, why are there so many AI go-arounds?
February 15, 201412 yr Default ATC is as broken as AI which does not actually care if there is anyone on their way unless ATC will tell them to stop. Still I cannot see any replacement over default ATC after loads of reading. Came to conclusion that it has best voices and is the only one able to hand AI on ground (but here I may be wrong) correctly. Anyway - no way to improve this currently in default ATC. I am actually shocked that so many great addons were released, so many developers went over FSX limitations and still there is no perfect ATC/AI addon. Tomasz Zawadzki
February 16, 201412 yr Commercial Member Will AISmooth have an effect when using it with PFE or Radar Contact? I was using it before with PFE, but honestly didn't noticed any difference, but again, I didn't noticed any ATC/approach realism hickups when using it. Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

AI Smooth while not perfect does improve this kind of stuff (you might see the odd plane slewing but it beats tripping over them and vice/versa) Not sure how this works with RC or PFE though. Also, FSUIPC has a great traffic zapper feature, lets you press a button and it zaps the nearest AI aircraft in front of you, while this won't prevent them from tripping over you, it can get rid of those wayward AI pilots that cut in the line (or the long lines waiting to takeoff). February 16, 201412 yr I find FSX is very entertaining when it comes to AI traffic. I have, as have others I'm sure, witnessed some really bizarre AI traffic behavior. If I didn't turn off collision, I would hardly ever get to fly. Ric Elmore

February 16, 201412 yr Another problem is, ATC tell you to hold short when there's a slow prop like 10 nm for approach, and then you have to wait for it to land, then unfortunately as it's so slow several others planes enter approach and you basically get no clearance until there's no plane approaching the runway. Seems AI has priority over you. Once had to wait 40 mins at a hold short line in Munich... and got fuel warnings while descending in Moscow because of the fuel wasted.
February 16, 201412 yr I solved above problem by turning ga traffic off and leaving only airliner traffic. Plus I noticed that when you enter the runway and not hold before it you get priority after that because ATC starts to see you as an aircraft on runway and tells AI to go around. Than you will get clearance. Tomasz Zawadzki
February 17, 201412 yr Still I cannot see any replacement over default ATC after loads of reading. Came to conclusion that it has best voices and is the only one able to hand AI on ground (but here I may be wrong) correctly. fsx does have great voices but from a functional perspective, voxatc and radar contact are infinitely better. for me, a more realistic voice that is telling me to do ridiculous things isn't very realistic at all. voxatc also does ground handling fairly well, including holds before crossing runways and stuff like that. it isn't perfect, but is such an improvement over the default atc i would never go back. your experiences may differ of course! i believe there is a 7 day demo which may prove to be a superior introduction than just reading about it. cheers -andy crosby

But good tip on the runway though, will taxi past hold short and the AI will definitely go around
